_"We die... and the world will be poorer for it"._ That quote stood with me, and to this day still does. In the end, can we actually blame him for reacting like that, for wanting to protect his people even if we had to go? I mean, It's not like people would get bored/sick of Hellboy and all the magical creatures, and decide to annihilate them or use them in scientific experiments. Even he, throughout the movie, _realises_ it. It's not like a world without belief, without anything else to exist except endless "progress" and jobs, would kill _us_ and our planet later. It's not like those beings were part of our history and life itself, and when they finally go extinct, so will their stories, their legends, their souls.
Maybe their legends, but never their souls. Nothing is ever truly lost, not even Magic, it just returns in a different form. One day, the Age of Myth _will_ come again, and maybe then we’ll have learned better
the fact that the prince can even walk and stand until his death after the same stab that made his sister literally fall is impressive for him in itself
I was thinking the same thing. He kept standing until he died, and died falling on his knees imagine that! I can’t even imagine what kind of a body strength that could be. Very impressive
In my opinion, I wish prince Nuada didn't have to die, as I thought he was a great character in the movie. But I guess in movies with bad guys, do end up dying or lose.
Nuada was right hellboy was right its sad when the so called "villian" makes humans the true villains and deserving to be turned to ashes. Also Liv you could have turned the pieces of crown to molten slag THE ENTIRE TIME!!! way to go Liv you do realize you totally dissed Abe in front of him right, you almost killed your man and for what to suddenly remember oh hey i have fire powers sheesh girl you royally screwed the pooch
He was still a villain. He was genocidal, arrogant, unyeilding, with moments of cruelty. But at the same time you understand his views. He is still a bad guy but you get where he is coming from which makes him more compelling.
@@Rottensparrow ooooh, you played the "racist" card! How original! No one has ever taken such an endeavour here on RU-vid, you've just broken a new ground...
I personally agree. Thanos is a good villain but heavily flawed. Nuada isn't perfect, but there are numerous aspects that make him better than thanos in my opinion.
The hero in his own mind at any rate. Notice how he did not have a large group of followers. He had Mr. Wink and those fairies in the troll market. Otherwise he did not really have anyone else who supported his cause.
Governments and corporations do. Corporations try to sell people on the idea of going "green" and recycling, but it's all a scam to get you to buy more while they secretly are just as wasteful as ever.
The MCU movies are not allowed to be as unique as this film was. The overall plot of Hellboy 2 is simplistic but it is uniquely executed with a sense of fun and wonder that pushes it beyond its basic elements. Most MCU films because they have more rules they have to follow fail to break beyond that and be unique. There are definitely some good ones where you can truly see the artistic touch of their creators (like Black Panther) but they are the exception.
I love how in his death, both Nuada and Hellboy had respect for one another. he allowed Hellboy to hold him up, Hellboy was the first to reach out, not to detain him, but to hold him up and listen to him. they were all respectful of him. it's just a detail I enjoyed. a dignified death, on all levels.
When I first watched this, I didn’t understand what Nuada was saying; but now I understand. He’s right about humans, we’re selfish and despicable creatures that are willing to lie and use each other for personal gain. Humans fear what they don’t understand and are quick to judge others because they are different, but there are good humans as there are evil humans. Maybe the humans will tire of Hellboy, but you know what I think; I think Hellboy will overcome every obstacle that stands in his way! What truly defines an individual isn’t their origins or the way they come to life, it’s the choices we make that define who we are!!
The score from 1:36-2:34 is just some of the most haunting, heartbreaking music I've ever heard. Befitting of an unwanted, forced, and tragically regrettable end with far-reaching consequences.
I feel like they could’ve just knocked him out and locked him up. That alone would’ve prevented the princess from killing herself. Maybe they could’ve changed his ways. Nuada wasn’t a bad man just consumed by his unyielding rage and resentment.
I’m not so sure. Nuada was hellbent on achieving his goals, making humanity pay for their gluttonous and destructive behavior while reclaiming the pride of his people who’d doomed themselves to a slow agonizing death over a truce born out of mutual shame. Shame that humanity had all forgotten. Nuada had a lot of good points and while there were other ways he could have achieved his goals, his pride and years of exile taught him that humans could not learn by any way other than force. Nuada didn’t come off as an angry soul but one who wanted the best for his people and had been hurt by the circumstances that brought them to where they, and every other being of fantasy/myth, had arrived. The troll market was for all intents and purposes a slum by comparison to the world they once knew, and Nuada believed the only way to bring that world back was by ending what his people had started all those years ago.
I am very sorry for Nuala, she was very perfect kind and beautiful character. I always cry when i watch this scene. I would really wish that she return as ressurected in Hellboy 3.
The way he talks about man just reminds me of how we are never truly satisfied we always want more even when he kills the forest god he tells hellboy this creature is the last of its kind kill it and the world will never see its kind again we are all scared of something that’s different than what we know we will never fully understand and when we give it time to settle in to fully understand it’s already too late love nuadas character because of this because of his take on man
1:15 this is something I tell myself. My former best friends betrayed me. As much as I wanted my friendship back with them. I know I should not go back to them. This quote/scene sums it up int a nutshell for me. I’ve heard how the friend group has become poorer after my departure. A sad but beautiful picture. I’m happy it feel apart. But it was still something I cared about
they rarely make movies such amazing as this anymore, where you can have sympathy for the "villain", and the respect 2 enemies can have for eachother, when they're both right and wrong, this movie will have a special place in my heart for ever, truly an underrated gem
It given the choice between the world of today or a world filled with magic and elves. I would pick the elves every time. All humans have done is wreck our own world.
Literally this; to borrow Wanda’s “Doesn’t seem fair”… Tolkien’s Ents are praised for marching on Isengard. Nuada is villainized for trying the same thing in the 21st century. People who see Nuada as only a villain-rather than an elf who has finally, rightfully, said, “no more”-can have their Isengards and their Mordors. They’ll find themselves choking on the smog and smoke rather quickly in a world that has burned away all its trees and purged its magic from existence.
She was not given the opportunity to do it sooner. They underestimated Nuada and Nuala hid the piece. Then of course they needed to save Hellboy and Nuala so there was not time to destroy the piece. As well Abe hid that he had the piece so he could save Nuala.
To everyone who's saying why Nuala didn't just injure herself rather than killing. She knew that the rage would never subside. Even without the army, as long as he was alive, he *Would* find a way to destroy humanity after all. So yeah. She killed herself and him because Nuada would never stop. I honestly side with Nuada. Us humans are vile creatures. We destroy everything in our wake.
@@adriantabares4470 most of us are. And let's face it. Those of us who are actually good people, even they can't overwhelm the evil ones. Doesn't that make us vile after all??
Humans: try to eradicate aliens to preserve their species and not fall into history = heroes Elves or any other race: does the same to humans = villains/antagonists
Most of those times the aliens were more like a virus just killing anything in its wake with no real thought like wild animals but us humans are not one being yes a lot of us are dad but a lot of us are good
The could have just stabbed her right hand Nuada drops the knife, hellboy hears the clang and turns around. Gives Nuala a little slap and kicks the knife away.
Nuada was strong and resilient enough to keep on standing basically until he died. With how determined he was it was possible he would push through the pain and still stab Hellboy
Cancelled sequel and spin-offs Del Toro had expressed interest in a sequel, saying, "I think we would all come back to do a third Hellboy, if they can wait for me to get out of Middle-Earth, but we don't know. Ron may want to do it sooner, but I certainly know where we're going with the movie on the third one." On May 30, 2010, Guillermo del Toro dropped out of directing The Hobbit. In June 2010, Del Toro speculated that Hellboy III might happen after his next project, but said that the screenplay had yet to be written. On July 14, 2012, after being inspired by a recent Make-A-Wish function in which Ron Perlman appeared in full Hellboy makeup for a terminally ill boy, Del Toro stated, "I can say publicly that now we are together in trying [to do Hellboy 3]". On April 5, 2013, in an interview with Comic Book Resources, Hellboy creator Mike Mignola commented that the possibility of a third Hellboy film seemed unlikely, stating "The biggest problem I see as far as PR for the next billion years is explaining endlessly ... that there's no Hellboy 3 movie". On June 30, 2013, del Toro discussed the possibility of developing Hellboy 3 at Legendary Pictures. He stated: "I hate giving pieces about it, but last night, we were at dinner and Ron said, 'I would be very happy to do Hellboy again, when are we doing Hellboy 3? Thomas Tull said, 'I would love to see Hellboy 3.' He didn't say he would love to do it he just said he'd like to see it, but today, I'll ask him." Ron Perlman added his support for the idea, stating: "Not just anybody can make this movie. I loved working for Legendary and I know for Guillermo working on Pacific Rim was one of his greatest experiences. The reason I loved working for them is because Guillermo was so happy. I came in six months into the shoot and he seemed as fresh as a daisy, simply because he was working for someone who appreciated and supported his outlandish visions of what he wanted to put on the screen. My immediate, silent wish was, wouldn't it be great if these guys came in and helped resolve the Hellboy series." Del Toro suggested telling the story of Hellboy 3 in comic book form, but Mignola vetoed the idea. On June 30, 2013, in an interview, Ron Perlman spoke about Hellboy 3 saying, "[Hellboy 3] needs to be twice as big as Hellboy 1 or Hellboy 2. It's all of these oracles coming home to roost with these apocalyptic things taking place, Guillermo's version of this resolve in the trilogy is epic in scope. Not just anybody can make this movie. It has to be somebody who's no stranger to this sense of scope. For me to do Hellboy 3, it could kill me-in terms of physically demanding, for a guy my age, but it's worth it because anyone who sits and listens to Guillermo's version of how this thing ends is completely seduced. It's so theatrical and compelling and if you liked the first two movies in any way, shape or form, this is the ultimate one-two punch." On July 11, 2014, in a Reddit AMA, Del Toro said, "Well, you know, we don't have that movie on the horizon, but the idea for it was to have Hellboy finally come to terms with the fact that his destiny, his inevitable destiny, is to become the beast of the Apocalypse, and having him and Liz face the sort of, that part of his nature, and he has to do it, in order to be able to ironically vanquish the foe that he has to face in the 3rd film. He has to become the beast of the Apocalypse to be able to defend humanity, but at the same time he becomes a much darker being. It's a very interesting ending to the series, but I don't think it will happen. ... We have gone through basically every studio and asked for financing, and they are not interested. I think that the first movie made its budget back, and a little bit of profit, but then it was very very big on video and DVD. The story repeated itself with the second already, it made its money back at the box office, but a small margin of profit in the release of the theatrical print, but was very very big on DVD and video. Sadly now from a business point of view all the studios know is that you don't have that safety net of the DVD and video, so they view the project as dangerous." In July 2015, del Toro said that Legendary Pictures might fund Hellboy 3 if Pacific Rim: Uprising does well at the box office: "The hard fact is that the movie's going to need about $120 million and there's nobody knocking down our doors to give it to us. It's a little beyond Kickstarter." After del Toro left the director's chair for Pacific Rim: Uprising, the deal fell through. In February 2017, Del Toro announced via Twitter, "Must report that 100% [Hellboy 3] will not happen." In July 2019, Perlman said that he would still love to finish the trilogy with del Toro, ignoring the reboot, and that he thought it could happen if financing could be found. In January 2022, Perlman encouraged Del Toro to proceed with the sequel, saying that they owed it to the fans to get it done and that "it would be an epic conclusion." In 2010, Hellboy screenwriter Peter Briggs was asked by Universal to script a spin-off centring on Prince Nuada, and provisionally agreed that Briggs could direct the film in New Zealand. Briggs began work on an outline with co-writer Aaron Mason. Titled Hellboy: Silverlance, the script was a B.P.R.D. story featuring Abe Sapien as the main character with Hellboy in a supporting role. Moving into the new B.P.R.D. headquarters in Colorado, Abe is troubled by his psychic connection with Princess Nuala, and begins researching the elves' history. The film would have shown Nuada's adventures throughout history, including his rivalry with a fairy courtier who orchestrates Nuada's exile in hopes of marrying Nuala and seizing control of the fairy kingdom; Nuada first meeting Mister Wink by saving him from a troupe of soldiers during the Spanish Inquisition; and Nuada in Nazi Germany, engineering a pact to keep various supernatural entities safe during World War II (with Nuada and Kroenen fighting in a "friendly" match for Project Ragnarok men.) Doug Jones would have played both Abe and the Angel of Death, who strikes a bargain with Nuada. Rupert Evans's Agent Myers would also have returned. The story climaxed at the new B.P.R.D. headquarters, with the return of Rasputin's summoning gauntlet. Universal wanted to proceed with the project, but it emerged that del Toro's Hellboy 3 was still a possibility, so Silverlance was shelved. In 2015, Briggs received another call from Universal, saying that Hellboy 3 had been cancelled and asking him and Mason to return for a reworked Silverlance, with producer Lawrence Gordon involved. The caveat was that Hellboy could not appear, but the writers managed to get the character a cameo appearance at the climax. If successful, the film would have launched a From the Files of the B.P.R.D. spin-off series. In May 2017, Briggs affirmed that, with the announcement of the Hellboy reboot, the Silverlance project was dead.
Well, since Amazon bought lions gate. Hopefully, Jeff can have them make a movie as they're killing it with cinema lately. With the boys invincible, you name it and now The Fallout show not to mention it would be a nice apology for the rings of power sucking, as we finally have a Medieval themed movie that doesn't suck. Plus I just want one last elbow movie.Especially a new nuda movie Him fighting nazis so badass him vs kroean Would be perfect. Everyone would lose their s*** They have to make this movie happen del toro deserves to finish his trilogy I'm pretty sure bezos would be more than happy to have a hellboy.Three.
I respect Prince Nuada he is a real brave man deserve to be called a Prince and the Golden Army Key Crown is very tempting to used spevialy when you hold that Special Key Crown
yes, he was a genocidal maniac... but he was also his first victim. he let his heart grow dark with hate. the really brutal part is that is hate was partially justified.
What would you do if another species overcome your homeland, ravagin it and your kind is endangered? Not only that, but your own father tells you that you should accept that destiny, to stay in the shadows until your whole world die.
Wow. If I had a nickel for every time Luke Goss played a royal outcast in a del Toro movie, who kills his father and dies in a murder-suicide with his sister, I'd have 2 nickels! Which isn't a lot, but its weird it happened twice right?
Abe was probably too traumatised to continue. Hellboy took Nuada's words to heart and stopped hunting monsters and fighting for humans, since they'll never accept him. Liz probably agreed with him. As for Krauss? I'm not sure
