Obviously Canyon saw the value if they were willing to go 10. If he has 5 brilliant years and then falls off, still a worthy investment, he must sell a ton of Aeroads.

I'm English but live in California so I am forced to watch the several big races on our American streaming service (that I can't name here cos Eurosport deletes my comment if I do). I prefer to watch my races on Eurosport but the races that Phil, Bob and Christian cover those races aren't on American Eurosport cos they would compete with each other but I have to say that Phil is a LEGEND!!! I've listened to Phil for 30 odd year now and as much as I love him he is getting old andbmaking so many mistakes. I was surprised he didn't retire after last season cos the past 4 seasons he's making more and more mistakes in his commentary. Wouldn't you? The only reason they kept riding was 2 and 3 on the podium... and the slight chance that he crashes or punctures.

The fact that MVDP's acceleration made the others look like they immediately gave up ... says it all. The level of explosivity and watts MVDP can put down instantly, compared to any other rider, looks almost unreal. Just ask Pedersen. He gave his all to catch and match MVDP pace but could not even remotely follow him. None of them could even while working together.

He's just a beast! I'm not a fan of MVDP but he really is a powerhouse and his skills from cyclocross really helps him stay upright. I actually Google'd "MVDP crashes" and I only found 2. One was MTB crash which doesn't count cos I was looking for road crashes and the only other one I found was his crash in the World Championships when it was raining and he still won the Worlds!! He just has an amazing sixth sense with bike handling skills 🤘🏻🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿

Agreed. Without Pogacar and WVA there fighting the whole way it’s just boring. E3 and Amstel gold the past 2 years have been way more entertaining than this. MVDP may be the luckiest rider ever. It’s insane that he was lucky enough to be the only page 1 favorite at two monuments in a row. WVA’s form this year was hard to gauge since he only did one race after altitude and crashed. But he seemed on good form when he hopped back on his bike. If the situation was different and either WVA or Pogacar was the only one at Flanders or here, they would’ve one.

It's been interesting all these top tier riders crashing out past few weeks too.

@@carboncrank2250 MVDP and Pogacar are about to have historical seasons with regard to races won. Everybody else is injured right now, it’s honestly insane. This season has been brutal for Visma LAB in terms of injured riders. I hope everybody makes a good recovery. I’m already interested in what their race schedules will look like next year. I can’t help but think they won’t be doing much early season racing in order to keep everybody injury free.

No it’s like watching Bolt if the other top 5 weren’t there. Historically WVA, MVDP, and Pogacar have been each others only competitors. Pogacar won Strade without WVA and MVDP there. In the past years WVA has won nearly all the classics without the other 2 there. MVDP is getting these races for free. His competitors were not there.

I’d imagine the cyclocross and mountain biking helps, especially as he is pretty much just as good there too! 🤘🏻

@@troycollett8540 And I am a huge fan of MvdP. I am also riding a Canyon in Alpecin colors. He is by far my most favorite rider and I watch all his races. I still don't believe that he is clean at all. But neither are the others behind him.

You can only race the people that show up, and I'm not sure that WVA has shown anything to suggest that he can beat MVDP this year. Certainly would have been interesting to have Pogacar or Remco at Flanders, though.

@@mmcewen9789 What? WVA hasn’t shown anything to suggest he can beat MVDP this year? Perhaps that is because he crashed like 10 days ago. He broke 7 ribs, his sternum, and collarbone. It was clear that if wout didn’t crash at e3 he would’ve easily been able to follow MVDP’s move. He was at a complete standstill at the bottom of a cobbled climb while MVDP was attacking, yet managed to close the gap to 10 seconds. Remco has a broken scapula right now as well.

How silly is that comment? Do you think they're all lazy? I think if anyone could have bridged and increased their chance of winning the race they would have done so.

Without WvA or Pogacar, yeah and with Alpecin being the strongest team, it's not surprising. Philipsen said he will decide on his future after Paris-Roubaix, so hopefully he leaves Alpecin and what looks to be the second or third best cobbles rider in the world at least won't ride with the best.

He was the strongest and hats of to a dominant win but he also had some luck on his side. Other teams suffered a lot more from defects and crashes today. E.g. Mads Pedersen punctured with 87 km to go and he had already lost his teammates from the front group due to similar circumstances so he had to spend a lot of extra energy leading up to the time when MVDP decided to say goodbye. It would at least have been closer if Lidl Trek had been able to stay out of trouble as well as Alpecin - Deceuninck. So the typical Paris-Roubaix drama ironically also made the race more boring this year. But of course that's not MVDP's fault either.
