Anson Mount plays a drunk perfectly ... its like my old man .. the way his eyes open wider during the serious parts.. the drunk giggle and the walk are spot on
The way he says Dixieland gives me chills every time. Almost left ambiguous like you aren't sure what he was thinking when he said it. Masterful acting here.
I had one great-great grandfather who was a Jayhawker and one that was a Bushwhacker. They most likely fought against each other on the Missouri/Kansas battlefields more than once. Two generations later their grandchildren (my grandparents) married. Thank God some people were able to forgive and move on. It was never mentioned in my family. I found out through ancestry research.
My family were originally Jayhawkers against their own of Bushwhackers and had a family reunion after the war. Thank God my sisters married into Bushwhackers. Look away look away.
Well, isn't that a Hegelian dialectic if ever there was one?! Thesis: Missouri Ruffians infiltrate into Kansas Territory with the intent to impose the ways of Rome and Egypt on their neighbor. Antithesis: In the spirit of Abaddon the Destroyer, John Brown and Free Soiler militias are called forth to lay waste to the invaders and to the blaspheming idolatrous sycophants of the slave system (which includes some of my ancestors from the Southeastern states, including Robert Edward Lee). Synthesis: The diabolical ways of Rome and Egypt (by that, I mean the slave system which all Christians should view as an abomination) are purged and a new nation is born again, Reconciled and Reconstructed with a renewed vigor for true republican and constitutional ideals. Ave Apollyon!
@@Your_Mother881 My Jayhawker GG was a quartermaster in the Union Army, stationed at Ft. Scott, KS. My Bushwacker GG was from Keytesville, MO and fought under Sterling Price. Still haven't been able to find if he was Missouri militia or properly joined the Confederacy. It's likely they crossed paths several times across the Kansas-Missouri border in the first 2 years of the war. My Jayhawker GG was at the sacking of Osceola and requested to be downgraded to a private shortly after that. Considering what the quartermaster would have been required to do when sacking an enemy town, I can't say I blame him.
what an amazing show an actors..especially anson and common..played the perfect best friends..always fighting with each other ..but would kill for each other
With many combat vets in my family I've found that they tell many stories, of the funny times and the scary times and other notable events, but never of the killing times.
@@bacon8891 Yeah, I reckon you giggled with glee when you found out his first victim was an unarmed free black man and then some children. Brown is the one getting fucked by demons in hell, boy.
@@bacon8891 I enjoyed the part where bohannon told him John Brown is lucky he wasn't in the South doing it because he would have got his ass blown away real quick
@Iv-gamer2568: In real life quite a few "Cullens" came out second best in those encounters. It was a bit more challenging than running down half starved and unarmed slaves.
"I come from Ole manassas with a pocket full of fun I killed fawty yankees with a single barrel gun, coz it don't make a stiff of difference to neither you nor I big yankee, little yankee all run or die"
@HD-gx8eh: Actually they are "forgotten," or selectively remembered...They remember what they want to remember kind of like the old reunions of the SS, people who saw themselves as crusading knights proudly standing against Bolshevism while totally oblivious to the piles of bodies of their victims beneath their blood stained boots.
Both sides committed atrocities. The Bushwackers raided Lawrence Kansas under Quantrill. The Jayhawkers did the same to Osage Missouri i believe it was. Both sides murdered men guilty and not and gangs like the Baldknobbers robbed and killed in the name of both sides. Bleeding Kansas and the guerilla fights are one of tge bloodiest chapters of the civil war that has mostly been forgotten it seems
I cannot say either side was in tbe right. No sir. Tos to say was them kansas boys that started the killin. When they burned Missouri farmers wifes and children for supportin the south. Nows to say what we missouri boys did was right. It wasn't blood for blood aint no way to live. But still cant say the kansas boys was any more good guys than the Missouri boys who fought em.
His cause was just, but he was no less a traitor than the confederates that emerged the following year. The soldiers who fought and bled in the union army in the war did nothing wrong. At least, the ones that didn't rape and murder civilians. Bohannon's story is fictional, but things like what happened to his family did happen. And most often it happened to the poor, who couldn't afford to flee in the face of the Union armies.
@@clamchowder622 talk to any old southern family that preserves their letters of history and you'll be surprised at some of the personal stories and horrors the war brought. The civil war was less lines of battle and more innocent people got murdered because they fed and clothed johnny Reb. Some cases you had bloodlust so bad Union troops hung everyone in a town even the slaves and made up stories. So much of the civil war is taught from a pro unionist spin. Which is ironic because the noble southern cause myth was more created in the north as a product of the unions own brutality towards dissidents who didn't want to fight in the civil war.
The Missouri Ruffians started that conflict. John Brown was a righteous agent of Abaddon called forth to lay waste to blasphemers who used the word of the SAVIOR to justify the oppression of fellow created beings who were no better or worse, no higher or lower than they were. And I speak of my own forebears when I say this, seeing as how I'm descended from the South, but no flesh is spared. There's no favoritism except toward the poor and the oppressed, the widow and the orphan. When we do as the Romans and the Egyptians did, we invite our own destruction. Ave Apollyon!
@@philmccracken7520 You don't know me! And I H.A.T.E. the government I live under! @@tolest98 yes. John Brown was a scuzbag domestic terrorist! And if you'd like to add a patriotic holiday to your American calendar, add the day, December 2nd, Brown danced on the end of that rope as "The Death of an Asshole!" The day a cold blooded murderer of women and children who had the misfortune of being married to or being the offspring of slaveowners at a time in history when it was legal, and this waste of flesh killed them for no reason!
I was forced to live in Johnson Co. county as a kid who had no choice in bring moved there, hated it, been through it many more times, and consider it a shole of a sholes, espeically, Lawrence, ans Otlathe, and still get tense when I see Kansas plates. Besides the BBQ, that whole Jayhawkin' State and its high sales tax can be a heap of rubble. Being u justly harrassed by Overland Park Police, just because of Gestapo tactics and they way my appearance was. I have zero likability for Kansas. Look up Potawontamoie massacre by "Righteous John Brown." Blame the way politicans had NEnglanders Eastern funded, backed with an agenda, and people rush into Kansas to decide it fate after the Missouri Compromise and Northern MO was not as amicable to slavery , it was mainly the Western and Southern counties on the border..that wanted slavery. THe way he sings" Dixieland" at the end is haunting, even though I am not wholly sympathetic to that Southern cause either. However; If you want to watch a interesting movie about the "Bush whackers Border Ruffians, et al."Watch "Ride with the Devil,"with Tobey Maguire. Skeet Ulrich. Still F Kansas, to hell, in my view. Redlegs and Jayhakwers were sanctioned gurillas bands kd murderers.

@@Cannonissomoney so in your mind someone is either pro-slavery or they worship blacks? im sorry your dad rasied you wrong, must have been hard watching him beat your mother like that
You know Lincoln was a cunt right? Father was a slave catcher, wife came from the family with the most slaves in Indiana, drove off freed slaves out of his state while he was a senator, deported or arrested political opponents, had his own form of the gestapo that would routinely burn down buildings of newspapers that criticized him (sometimes with people still inside of them), has multiple speeches saying blacks & whites should not live together, taxed & sanctioned the Southern states out of spite for the whig movement's failure while he was in the senate, condoned General Truman's atrocities (the Confederates are far from innocent with their own fair share of atrocities, but they didn't burn down entire towns and leave the now homeless citizens to die in the coming winter. Citation, Meridian), and actually didn't free any slaves (the Emancipation Proclamation did not apply to Union controlled lands down to the county)
