"If you are so happy, than why did you come here?" - that speaks volumes to me. Amazing film! Super strong characters! Best screenplay! A breath of a really fresh air now! Love every single second and every single camera angle - just wonderful! It's sad, though 'cos I have never been in such a close and firm relationship with a man, no one seemed to need me when I was in my 20s, not to mention that now I am 36... Clouds upon this side of my life. Am tired of one night stands. Am not really scared of what others will think or say, it's me and life - simple as that, though I nearly had a scandal at work which would have led to some vague outcomes, had I not turned it all into a joke, well, food for thought. At least, am not married and never will be. The main hero is so handsome and strong, tough and tender all at the same time! I wish I had a friend like him ... xoxo and hugs from Moscow Thank you all for this breath!
Oh my gosh, I didn't see this coming. Never knew I could watch something like this from Nigeria. Well, as a Nigerian I'm so delighted to see this movie and can't wait for more, this movie made a lot of sense, and kudos to many mothers out there who'd understand their children... I'm almost facing this same thing here, I'm 23 from delta working abroad, got a girl pregnant but that wasn't my life. my happiness is that I told the girl how I’m not attracted to woman which she told me she wants to change me, she's now longing for marriage which I won't.. cos I love my man and that's final... kudos to this great and brave actors.. I love y'all... Thanks 4 sharing 😘🥰
TIERs Nigeria I still giveu guys 100% please contact me if you want to shoot any related videos or more. I also have short wonderful stories you might like. Who knows, this channel could be the greatest Nigeria RU-vid vlog
This is so highly emotional.. Honestly mothers will always be mothers💖,live and let live...anyone could find him/herself in a dire situation...thanks to the entire cast and crew.. This movie deserves an award👑❤
'MY HEART BELONGS TO YOU'. I literally died! Wow never saw that coming. this is great. The passion, the acting from those two wonderful men, were so powerful I felt every emotions surge through me. This is great! just like every other I've come to love from you guys. Great Job TIERS keep up the good works.
I think the underlying word here that Nigerians needs to adopt is toleration, you don't have to understand it or accept it and that's fine, sometimes some things are not meant to be understood, you just have to respect their decisions and choices, because it was theirs to make in the first place. Am a firm believer in two consenting adults who know their rights from their lefts with the power to make choices live life the way they want to as long as you don't impose your views on me. #Live and let's live and stop spewing hatred because we are all humans irrespective of race, orientation, etc# Nigerians needs to stop taking panadol for other peoples' headache. Many people say they are Christians yet hmmm, who are you to decide how the next man should live his life. Good to see conversations like this started because issues need to be discussed. Looking forward to more thought provoking issues. #Thumbs Up#
What you are saying about tolerance etc. is correct Pratt O. But for this scenario was it really a necessity to involve a pastor, a representant of God, into this "story of people of the same gender having sex together" ? Could they not used a comon person ? DG of a big company for example.
@@hananador1505 Absolutely a good thing to make the character a pastor. There are thousands, probably millions worldwide, of gay pastors. Fortunately I managed to extricate myself from that profession before getting really deep into it-but one after wasting 17 years of formal studies in religion to become a pastor.
The content, the storytelling skills, the cinematography and the actual courage of a production on this subject matter... all I can say is WOW! Good job guys 👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽
I'm going through a phase where I have people asking me to get married and the pressure is immense. At the same time my heart belongs to another. I cant imagine my life without this individual yet I cant have a life with this person the way that I want to.
Marry a lesbian hun. You both please your families and society while still having your own lives with the ones you truly love. I hope it all works out for you. 💛💛 #bornstraightrefusetohate
The cover alone deserves an award. The quality, the cinematography... Perfect!!!The acting was brilliant. (even if the two guys lacked chemistry)Reminds me of Brokeback Moutain. This is daring!!!Very daring. The music score was beautiful as well.
did you say lacked chemistry? Well in a way, but i think i was due to the fact that this is a ground breaking movie in Nigeria, basically trying to test the waters for more work, from an actor's point of view i felt the chemistry, it was done in such a way that wasn't repulsive yet revealing.... the two scenes were their intimacy was shown revealed that they had chemistry.... Brokenback Mountain and the others are shot in a more welcoming environment.... yet Hell or high waters passed the message...
@@prospermorgan_ Well said Prosper. When one is tackling such sensitive subjects for a public viewing, one has to be very careful with the way they challenge the "norm" and not just go for the jugular. I'm super amazed that this even came out of Nigeria, because we hear horrible stories about how our LGBTI brothers and sisters are treated there, it is really sad. However, such films slowly change the public views and perceptions on sexuality for the better.
I watched this in 2017 here I'm watching again in 2023 What a beautiful short film it's , Great job done by TIERS Nigeria it takes bold moves to do things like this in a country that makes it hard for it citizens who're 🌈 to exist freely I'm Glad contents like this were done and some are done already, at least the young lgbt Nigerians coming behind would see that we all tried by putting queer stories & struggles on full display in the media I'm sure the one's behind us would be proud to see the efforts made.
Finally! It was beautiful and I wished it was longer. The actors were convincing enough. Sad that all of one's achievement suddenly become nothing just because of something as flimsy as one's sexuality
#HellorHighWater is a short and short film can't be longer than this. Also, we did this to open door of engagement with the industry and to others bigger projects we working on with actors within the industry. More on the way.
Sending my love and hugs to the LGBTQ community in Nigeria all the way from Kenya🌈🌈🌈, this movie is really amazing and commendable unfortunately it's short, it's a nice step to make people know love is love and they should stop homophobic actions,
Wow oh wow, never thought I'd see a movie like this come out of Nigeria in my life time. There are lots of stories like this in Nigeria (and Africa and the world in general) that may never get the platform but need to be told. Thank you for this: it is amazing, inspiring and encouraging on so many levels. Much respect and kudos to you, and the actors and actresses. Will be sharing this with friends and family, and keeping everything crossed there is more like this on the way. This conversation needs to carry on going.
Thank you for this movie ! I am crying ! I am so sorry that so many gay people have to hide their true feelings. All the lies destroyes lives. I am so sad that some religious people has forgotten the important message of love in religion. It warms my heart to watch all the new webseries with young black gay men showing their love and being proud. I wish for the gay people in Africa to be able to be true to themselves. (Still crying !) Love from Sweden
Quite incisive and by no means predictable And yes homophobia will rare its ugly head, but now we can tackle it as intelligently as this film has been made. Brilliant work TIERS👏🏿👏🏿
The reality for many and very important we let people on who this is about sex, or it about just wanting to be gay see and understand the cost of the pain their thought, view and social hate cause us all including them as well
The main actor lacked the emotional depth to carry this film... You've been discovered as gay, your wife has divorced you, your parents disown you and all the emotion he could muster was just looking like someone stole his watermelon from his hand. If not for the women this film would have suffered gravely. The actors both male, really judged these charcters, and it shows from their protrayal. They held back a lot. You cannot judge the character you are playing even if their lifestyle does not align with yours. Good story. The shakara wife made this film great! That is a woman hurt
I cannot really fault them, for being bold enough to even portray a gay character is impressive to me, knowing how homophobic and hypocritical the nigerian scene is.
I swear, I couldn't believe that such popular actors would take up such a role, especially in this country where people misunderstand and criticize everything. The movie is perfect
I have watched similar stories many times before, but the fact that places, people and customs I can easily relate to are being portrayed, made me experience a deep and overwhelming feeling as I watched this particular story. I really felt I could be that guy!! Thank you for telling Our African Stories so beautifully. Wish you all the best from Cameroon!
Oh my God! This is fantastic. Fantastic execution of a flawless script. I love that it's authentically Nigerian and gay. I love that it didn't end in a suicide because most of those who can relate with this story are alive and living out the pain. Well done TIERS! Fantastic!
Keep up the good work. Society evolves through access to information. Your film supports the fact that when we try to suppress a person's nature more than just that person will suffer. In the long run parents, spouses, children and the community at large will also suffer. However, we'll all benefit if we allow all people to live openly and honestly so they can be their best selves.
I am so surprised and pleased that such a relevant film came out of Nigeria. We can do whatever it is we put our minds to do as a people on the continent or in the diaspora. Let's continue to tell our own stories, or else someone else will make up a lie and tell it for us.
Lies will not ever be used to live a comfortable life,it will only destroy the lives of those who u pretended to love,be true to u and save yourself the embarrassment from friends and families, its always better to be hated for being yourself than to be accepted by those for some false notion of being someone u are not, this must always serve as a true picture for those who may think hiding in secrecy with bring them happiness, always be true to yourself ,a great story !
Great film ,I must say. it is indeed encouraging to see Nigerians taking control of their own lives and tell their own realities as they see. this a great move for the whole African continent, much love and support from south africa
The film was quite interesting. Great cinematography and beautiful acting too. I am positive that in the not too distant future, we would shudder at the thought that homophobia was ever a thing. To be honest Nigerians would be better of hating something that actually deserves hate.
worked in Owerri four years, knowing Nigeria quite well including sexualities and the strengh of Religions, I realise today that in Africa, only the Nigerian Cinema could produce such a nice movie on such a still forbiden thematics. Patrick
OMG, this Awa character is too good...the part where she said "I don't want you corrupting our son with your LIFESTYLE " got Me rolling on the floor with tears.
not everywhere, and depends on how you conduct yourself. stop falling for the western hype and understand AFrican people. I am gay and I have been all over Africa, and I have had very little problems until the white evangelist came and insisted blacks listem to them and because of the black colonial indoctritnal blacks people elieve anything that comes out of white mouths. We are mentally bound. so fucking sad
Thank you Tiers for producing this beautiful piece, very well done. Heartrending and painful to watch in parts for those of us that identify with the narrative, but beautiful nonetheless. Please tell more stories like this, little drops of water they say! :-)
Mother's love is rare and unconditional despite all odds the mom still comfort her, but that's reality bcoz many people are dieing in silent over their sexualities what a touch
am seeing my possible future right in front of my eyes. one who would be forced to marry a woman when I have no attraction to them whatsoever. its a shame on me! nice work guys. love from England!!
i can't stop crying. i know persons that are now married and they are gay and one of them is a pastor . i feel sorry for them. if the woman they marry ,ever finds out. this tiuch me so... much. i am not close to these people but yet i was so... angry that they decide to live a lie. this kinda help me to understan. plus we do live in jamaica. #homophobic country!!!
We both currently live in the West, but it's hard in an african setting, we are holding each other's hand, and trying really strong to live our dreams. Please keep producing stuff like this, it will help us find courage!
I truly enjoyed this short film about a man, trying to stand for what is truth; however, ends up caught up in a past that found its way into his current reality. I can honestly say that I understand his dilemma; however, what bothers me, especially when it comes to the Black Male, so many of us feel that we have to live one life (to keep everyone happy) and please our inner truth on the side. When the two finally meet ... there's nothing but chaos . . . This pastor played the role very well. I enjoy watching as everything unfolded. I will say this ... I couldn't stand the ex wife, that of the pastor's love interest, whose character was to rummage, just to justify herself and curiosity . . .
One of the biggest setbacks about this film is the same one that haunts many today facing these same dramatic, tabloid moments; however, the true question remains unanswered ... Where and Was there any "love" or "roots" within any part of the relationship(s) the gay male or female are now haunted by? It bothers me that so many of us cannot accept the fact that we are not a perfect creation and falter is part of life no matter how upright we attend to be or aspire to be ..., but, we have those of the feeble-mind who find themselves in a position to judge others depending on the Sin that was or has been committed. I will admit that there was much fear within me and growing up I did much running because I didn't want to be around my family or any close and dear friends any longer than I had to be. There was love, much love shown to me by both parents ... and in the midst of their love and care for me, they also taught me how to plant seeds that grew strong roots. Those roots were their bond that kept me close to them even when I wanted to run or just not be around them or anyone I loved dearly. When it was all said and done and the running began to wear on me, confronting my personal demons was the only option that was left for me. As it turned out ... opening up and being the son, to them, my parents, grandparents and other town elders reared, was the only weapon I had. The one thing my mother said to me, she loved me no matter what and all that was said to her, in confidence, wasn't anyone's business ..., for the important person had been told it all. I've seen many youngsters, who were blatantly disowned by their parents, friends and other family members, being cast out into a cruel world with no where left to go. I can speak on this because a good friend of mine, when disowned by her parents and siblings, took her life by jumping from the freeway. The saddest part about it all was having her call me at the last minute to say her goodbyes as she jumped to her death. There was so much ... so much anger and hatred I had for her family. While at her passing ceremony ... how they cried, yelled out how they loved her ... going to miss her ... and the only thing I wanted to do was slap the shit out of them for their showcase/Emmy performances. Through her death I learned so much ... hold on and cherish those that you truly love. Many a conversations shared, in the middle of the night, as we held each other ... speaking out, to the other, about our fears of living life without the love of family. I had found that acceptance ..., but my dear friend, Gizzelle, never had the opportunity to experience that foundation ..., her "Roots" . . . This film brought back so many memories of the hurt, the pain, the torture I lived with for years. It also proved that many of "we" blacks are just a taboo and ignorant about life ... love ... and their meaning as that of beginning to understand the simple fact that "one + one" will always give us an answer of 2. You guys have got to come up with more creations like this ... I truly enjoy it.
Awesome. As a script writer that was looking for some flesh, I’m more than impressed to have come across this movie. Our stories are similar but I’m going in for the full details. It’s time we don’t let that cat out of the bag.
Daring!!! Daring but true. Sexuality isn't chosen or else everyone would choose to be straight cuz it's normal. This discussion should start, these things really do happen!!!Kudos to Tiers Nigeria for such a production!!!
great production. (I was hoping for some action LMAO) 5/5 stars. would definitely recommend to a friend. great for changing the discourse and starting conversation in nigeria. also really glad y'all casted thick men!!!
Wow this is very interesting film. It's displays the emotional side of life what people do to please society. How people push themselves and go to all the troubles to be socially acceptable. Big up to this movie
Carter, you are a very brave, fine young man. You are your own special creation (from La Cage aux Folles). You told my story. You have made it, It will only get better. Your story will touch and inspire so many great young guys just like you. My own mother told me- "To thine own self be true." Make sure you love yourself. YOU matter!
Its a warm thing to start to see a new African story telling horizon that is relatable because regardless of how we feel towards sexuality we all have those people we know have that orientation. Thankfully the visual arts will help educate us of our impact into the life of another fellow human regardless of gender
🦋 This is to all the Gay in Africa i want you to know that 😊 there is a lot people that love you ,not because you gay because you are also a person❤ always be your self Lean to love your self more than anything 🎉🎉🎉 I'm supporting you in every way because God say love one another 🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼may be your best support🎉
I think this movie captures the concept of homophobia and all but doesn't to full effect capture the treatment of LGBT people in Nigeria(especially the violence)... Great job tiers..... love your work, keep it up, hope to be in contact with you guys some day in the future
Very beautiful movie. The actors were super brave given how famous they were and are, given the attitude of the country. I know this will be 1st if many such types of movies.
its now six months and haven't deleted this film, its quite interesting and showing the depths if the matter in our societies. African people haven't believed that these are feelings and cannot be inherited from anywhere
Great! Story and great production. All the actors were truly convincing. Also, Like everyone who has commented you have done a wonderful job with this. Looking forward in watching future material you produce. Hopefully, you do a series or working on something longer than a short. Subscribed. :)
Although there is alot i can say about All of the Sick things that are going on in Africa I'll just say that this is a great film with a great story done with Grace and Style...Please do more❤
I just love this so much It depicts what's going on here perfectly. The grip. Even as a short movie; the screenplay, cinematography, acting, editing and all are all at point. The movie is a treasure Hope to see more of these in future💞
I just started watching this movie right now and I was surprised to see this kind of video coming out from so called Nigeria 🇳🇬. If something like this can always push on I believe many Gay people we definitely come out to join the movie as well. I don’t know 🤷♂️ when this so called Nigeria 🇳🇬 government we wake up from their 1960 generation sleep 🛏 and see the Reality going on everywhere in other country. I’m living here in Germany 🇩🇪 nobody had the fucking right to judge you else that person we end up 6month in prison. Love ❤️ is Love no matter the orientation we should aspect people for who they are. Some hated me but I don’t give a fuck about them but I still keep my life going because I’m better than 79% lolz 😂. Please be yourself and be always happy 😊 I cannot wait to join this group movie if you guy’s decide to create an international movie I would love to being in the movie here in Germany 🇩🇪 if you need my contact I we forward it’s to you via private message love ❤️ all from Germany 🇩🇪
i'm lucky that i life in the Netherlands, and that the lgbt+ community is able to live there life. I know that there is hate, but a lot of people don't care what someones sexual orientation is. There is a gay vicar, and he is a vicar with a special mission, to educate other vicars and churchmembers how to handle lgbt+ people. He is also someone you can talk to if you don't have anyone. I think that al around the globe there should be more people like him.
It is just so sad that African LGBTQ have to undergo through such level of homophobia; people fail to think of the harm their words and actions do to others. Its also sad to see thousands of ladies live a married life full of lies. Its a great movie and its even greater that it is from Nigeria. Lol from Kenya
