I just love how Alastor clearly couldn't care less about being a father figure to Charlie and just wants to mess with her father, who's the KING OF HELL. The man just doesn't care

A lot of people are thinking Alastor really sees Charlie as a daughter but actually don't realize that he was trying to piss Lucifer off. It's HILARIOUS.

I remember before the show aired when a lot of people would portray Lucifer as sexy, suave, and manipulative, and I am so glad that depiction wasn't what we got. He is silly! He is depressed! He is whimsical! He is trying his best! I love Canon Lucifer. Nothing will ever beat this version.

I'm gonna actually go on the limb and say Alastor was legitimately jealous. Not because he views Charlie as a daughter, but because he has pride in his work, and the entire hotel has basically become "his." So Charlie(who's the heart of the whole thing) getting help from the 1 person Alastor truly has no power over is like he's getting cut out of the 1 thing he's genuinely putting effort into(which is supported by him kicking out probably the closest individual he had as a friend, purely because they weren't taking Charlie's dream seriously, and were bringing harm to the hotel).

He saw Lucifer's lackluster reaction to the hotel, so he intentionally started acting like Charlie's 'replacement dad' to make Lucifer jealous so he would choose to help her - and by extension, help whatever Alastor is trying to do at the hotel. He's really good at this lmao

The funniest thing about this whole interaction is that it perfectly highlight Alastor’s biggest weakness: his pathological need to be the most important person in the room. He was gone for 7 years, none of the other overlords cared where he went or what he was doing. Demons weaker than him annoying him and disrespecting him? Their screams of agony are broadcast all across Hell. The King of Hell shows us? Well, Alastor simply can’t compete in terms of power, but Lucifer does NOT like the idea of anyone else filling the father figure role of Charlie’s life. So, Alastor tries his hand at taking that spot.

Nobody talks about how Alastor is in darker scenes, while Lucifer shot are bright and full of light, as his name intended

I am so glad they made Lucifer such a caring dad. Sure he's kind of a doofus who isn't exactly good at this, but he is legit trying and does truly love Charlie. Also Hearing Alastor use profanity is GOLD. That’s how you know he’s really upset because nobody really gets to him.

Him and his mother were abandoned by his father, so that "sadly, there are times when a birth parent is a dud" line feels more personal. He WANTS Lucifer to feel bad about being an absent dead beat. Tbh i love our radio demon more for it

One thing I noticed after listening to this song a billion times is why Charlie looks so awkward around her dad but is more positively responsive to Alastor. Lucifer is basically trying to show off and fix the hotel without actually addressing Charlie’s problem. He wants to show that, as of the king of hell, he can give her anything and everything to make the hotel look and feel better, even if that’s not really what she wants at the moment. He wants to give Charlie and the hotel the royal treatment, even though she didn’t ask him to do that. He’s trying to get close to her through material means. He doesn’t understand that she needs support and validation, not a fancy upgrade to the hotel. He’s being genuine, but he doesn’t know how to talk to his daughter without overcompensating. Meanwhile Alastor seems to be almost completely disingenuous, but it works because he knows what she wants to hear. He claims to support her and validates her. Not to mention, unlike Lucifer, he ACTUALLY knows her. No matter his intentions or whether or not he’s lying through his teeth, he’s been there “since day 1”, supporting and validating her. That’s why he only brings that up instead of trying to produce material objects like Lucifer (also because he can’t outdo Lucifer with that sort of thing.) Because of this, he legit feels more like a father figure than Lucifer does. Later in the episode, Lucifer did win the little battle because he was able to be more personal with his daughter, but in this song, Alastor was definitely winning.

Alastor in a nun outfit is something I never would have expected, and the scene with him and Niffty is surprisingly adorable actually, and Lucifer aggressively playing a violin is pretty funny, who knew that Lucifer was musically gifted, no wonder Charlie sings to get her point across, she learned it from her dad

The animation choices for this piece are absolutely killer. And to have Lucifer play the fiddle like the Devil Went Down to Georgia is magical. This is one of the best series (and musicals) I’ve seen in a while.

I love how much they actually portray Lucifer's power without ever actually showing him fight. Like with Alastor, sure, we've seen the fighting he can do, but Lucifer is easily creating like 6 fully tangible clones, full structures of caviar and champagne, easily teleporting multiple people, etc.

I love that Alastor and Lucifer flat out acknowledge they are singing a song. most of the times musicals put a song in and everyone just goes about like normal it was so strange but funny to just hear "can you stay out of my song?" "your song?! I Starteted it!"
