Hellcat F6F: Combat operations 

The Grumman F6F Hellcat in Fleet Air Arm service saw operational service in the Mediterranean, Indian Ocean and Pacific Ocean. The Royal Navy's need for a rugged, easy to fly fighter saw the Hellcat largely operated from its "Assault" escort carriers off the coast of Burma and Malaya. But hangar restrictions saw the fleet carrier HMS Indomitable operating them off Formosa, Sakishima Gunto and Japan.
