The funny thing about Tricky’s screech at 1:01 is that it happens directly after the fire arrows are first introduced to the player, and roughly just after enough fire arrows have passed where they would’ve killed the player if they had touched them. In a way, that screech could be interpreted as Tricky getting frustrated over the fact that he couldn’t fool you into getting killed.
I like how in the ending cutscene, the moment Tricky actually attacks the Boyfriend, he gets sucked into whatever wormhole that was. Even thought it's theorized to have to do something with the eye and the hacker group lore, it's always been my headcanon that attacking someone (unless it's while singing and in time with the music) in Friday Night Funkin' is "cheating". Edit: To add on, the fire notes are a dirty trick, but still in time in the music. The only time Tricky can get a successful attack on you is if you lose all your health, which means Tricky wins and can decapitate Boyfriend. Not to mention, I saw someone point out that at 0:59, after the turn where you first encounter the fire arrows, Tricky lets out that shriek in anger as he realizes you've figured out his trick.
This is less of a headcanon and more of just a fact, cause there have been multiple people even in the official songs that have wanted to kill bf/gf but didnt/couldnt
Out of all the rage songs I think this one reigns supreme. He's not just singing faster and more aggressively with a cool beat, Tricky is so done that he's roaring and shrieking, spamming and doing whatever to lower your health so he can kill you. Even Hank himself has to step in at this point as Tricky has gotten out of hand, it seems like our little blue rapper has gotten under the clowns skin more than anyone else ever has.
@@sCooper97 when the Undertale fandom was in the early stages, people harassed RU-vidrs for not playing the pacifist ending first time in Undertale. Legit comparing them to real life murders, no, not kidding.
This is why I love clowns. They can either be crazy entertaining, crazy terrifying, or both. Tricky is a testament to this. And we all know Hank didn't attack during the song 'cause he was busy jamming.
@@gameboyplush1983 damn yeah tricky been a jojo vampire would be too dangerous, but I dunno in which AU he would put on a stone mask and become one lol
Damn, I remember being probably the happiest person in the world when this update came out, I was absolutely in love with EVERY soundtrack in the mod as I am still now, I remember being so funkin' happy when l finally got access to download the mod and play it, I was so happy when I finally completed Expurgation after 2 weeks of trying, these times were awesome :D
Plot twist: Hank J. Wimbleton was staying in the back not because he was waiting for the right moment to strike Tricky, but because this song was too much of an amazing banger that it distracted him.
THIS WAS INSANE, I LOVED IT, The new mechanic of the c l o w n arrows is incredibly intelligent because it forces the player not to spam and take better attention of their movements, in addition to generally demonstrating the power of Tricky in the final battle, all the anger is felt in this song and that's why I love it, it's crazy, it's aggressive, IT'S MADNESS.
People sometimes say it’s bad boyfriend isn’t sounding like he’s trying to yell enough, but I like it because it makes boyfriend come off as even more of a stupid, arrogant piece of crap. I imagine that while Tricky is over here screaming unintelligible slurs, curses, and sounds with no meaning, bf is still rapping out bars and insults to the tricky while also hyping himself up to impress his girlfriend.
"Pretty tight bars for a guy simping over an ugly girl who wears her mom's clothes" - Captain (Tankmen), Week 7 (I don't 100% remember the whole quote)
I picture BF as less an arrogant piece of crap and more like a particularly feral teenager, personally. I don’t know enough about the game to know if that’s canon, but it’s more fun to me personally to imagine him as being like, I dunno, a human raccoon-fears neither man nor devil and would fist-fight God for a single corn chip.
Coming back to this song after years makes me realize just how brilliant the composition of this song is. A song that is supposed to create a sense of chaos using various time signatures is so cool to me, speaking of time signatures: 5/4, 7/4, 4/4, 9/4, 10/4, that's a lot for a song in general, but for a fnf song it's even more cool.
I read somewhere that the mod devs posted a gif or something of Tricky throwing the bird on Twitter. Someone got offended by it and requested that they remove it, so of course, they both kept it in and lengthened the animation.
BPM is relative, especially for non-notated music. You could say that Improbable Outset is 100 BPM if you changed where you say the beat is, the equivalent of switching to 2/2 (cut time) instead of 4/4 without actually changing the music at all.
seriously man we need more people listening to this song and thinking 'damn this is a banger!' so that it can get top of list...*even though I still think expurgation deserves the top of the list.*
I remember Tricky phase 3 being one of the most hyped up things in Friday Night Funkin' during the long two month wait for Tricky 2.0 and week 7. Hellclown was ironically the most underappreciated part of the main week for the longest time.
I love odd time signatures in video game music! And I love how the melody alternates between 5/4, 7/4, and 4/4! Makes it so much more intense! Friday Night Funkin's music is more varied and in-depth than what I initially expected! Can't wait to be in my 30's and still jamming to this stuff!
Gotta love how this song starts - "YOOOOOU SIIIIIING THROOOOOUGH HEEEEEELL!" Truth be told, that opening line couldn't be more accurate for this level. Trying to play this with the Fire Notes trying to throw you off makes you feel like you're dodging your way through some deadly obstacle course, speeding through hell itself. Not to mention, the charting is some of the best I've seen in an FNF mod - I really like those bits with the notes inbetween Fire Notes on the same lane, as it's built to test your sense of rhythm...y'know, kinda like a *rhythm game?* I feel like a lot of mods forget that rhythm games like this are meant to test your timing and accuracy, not just how fast you can mash the buttons, and Hellclown nails that perfectly. It provides a good challenge for your rhythm with its chaotic time signatures and elaborate patterns, but the Fire Notes really seal the deal as they test your ability to remain calm under pressure. It's almost like Tricky is the embodiment of chaos and madness, and you need to be the opposite of that - you need accuracy, speed, and above all composure in order to succeed.
Composure absolutely. It stresses you out with the long notes coming up to the climax, and then BF starts spittin and you need to readjust(I still havent got past that fucking part though lmao)
Fairly certain it's not "You sing through hell" but rather "You'll see true hell", which - and I could be mistaken here - I'm pretty sure is an actual line from Madness Combat.
I have been called homophobic for not supporting the LGBTQ+ community/cause. I don't hate them - I actually have friends from the community - I just don't agree with the mentality. As a result, many people have a tendency to call me a homophobe.
The FNF team seriously needs to bring you on board for the Full Ass Game... You consistently make some of the best mod music around. The 5/4 and 7/4 time signatures in this one itch a scratch I didn't know I had in my band nerd brain. Thoroughly impressed.
Wasn't there supposed to be a madness combat week on the full ass game? They could work on that, especially since the fnf team has a $2 mil+ budget to allow so
Dimentio: Sane yet clever and mischevious trickster Jevil: Crazed lunatic who loves deadly games Marx: Psychotic demon who desires god powers Tricky: *The doomslayer of clowns*
@@somemadnessfan4763 well it was more like he imploded, we don't really know what caused him to disappear, and bullets didn't seem to affect him that much
@@Jaboy-of5fw At first I thought that it was gonna lead into a 4th song where Tricky physically attacks Boyfriend and the gimmick is Boyfriend fights back then again we got kinda better
I play this music anytime I’m playing a game that requires me to destroy the opposite team’s entire squads by myself. Kind of like an alternative E1M1 song.
Tricky got so pissed that he went out of his way to tear my game's fps and bf's body apart merely with just the roar at the start while I hopelessly watch because of his mere presence causing the madness within my computer to crash the game. The energy the clown was radiating was so extreme that i couldn't even pause the game to gain my FPS back. The fact that bf dying made my game finally crash and close itself (which is unintentional) really shows that tricky already won, and is making SURE he's dead by closing my window. dramatic jokes aside, 10/10, I unironically love this mod from the bottom of my heart with its great representation of Madness Combat
The thing I love about this song is how it SCREAMS Tricky's personality, halfway through the song BF is actually *singing* something but Tricky is just screaming trying to disrupt the song, it's AMAZING
Now that I think about it Tricky knows the rules, that's why when you lose, he smashes you head with the stop sing and that's why while the song goes on it's more gibberish from Tricky than "singing", he wants to kill BF so bad that he just spams every key
o and another thing i discovered before tricky's 2nd scream his side was kinda spammy and then he passes it to boyfriend so he can die then gets pissed off because the spam didnt work ig
That's also what happens in the ending cutscene! He gets so frustrated from losing over and over and Hank attacking him, that he decides to break the rules. However, the moment he sends a fist flying at Boyfriend, a third party takes over and sucks him into that wormhole. Cheaters never win!
Tricky releasing all of his power and reveal his powerful form just to learn that when you're on sight of BF, your only option for fight is to do a rap battle.
the animations given to tricky in this particular song are fantastic. they are so clear and crisp, yet they deliberately seem insane. i like this mod the most out of any other. it truly does show that when you take your time and go al in to design you can get some spectacular stuff.
came back to this gem of a fnf mod with a bit more knowledge of music theory, now I have alot more respect for this track it goes absolutely insane with the time signatures
I stumbled across this song again thanks to my unsorted 1000+ song music playlist. And then I ended up finding your comment. I'm also rather interested in music theory. Whatever you're talking about sounds sick, care to elaborate?
(wow it deleted my whole reply) OMG I'VE BEEN HOPING SOMEONE WOULD ASK ABOUT IT okay so time signatures basically are the amount of beats that are being counted in a bar of sheet music, the top number is the amount of beats, and the bottom one is the type of notes that are being played (on that I ain't really good das really confusing ngl). but there are some (not enough tbh) of songs that instead of using the common four beats, it uses other beats that all have their different vibe, highly suggest Cadence Hira's video on this, she covers almost every single time sig signatures
@@Thor_the_Doge but what's also cool about this track is that it MIXES time signatures to kinda catch you off guard, example: the beginning of the song is in 5/4, but then at 0:35 it changes to 4/4 it's really cool, try to count it btw and tell me if it worked for u (;
@@chasebrace7575 it's hard to catch onto the beat at the start, because the bass line lacks a constant, rhythm-setting beat (which I've heard somewhere is often very important for basslines) but once I got it, holy crap that is so insanely subtle and so freaking interesting. I never would've noticed that. I don't even know how that could be done in DAWs? I had no idea one of the songs in the OG big fnf mod could have some special detail like that. I've heard of BPM changing songs and key changing songs, but never before time signature changing songs. I did already know what a time signature is but I appreciate your explanation. Also, I had a rough start to my week, and I think your sheer enthusiasm from the fact I happened to ask something you never expected someone to ask may have just made it significantly better. Also, I wasn't expecting you to answer tbh, and yet you answered with something really cool, you are the best.
The objective: makes a song so hard that people need to be so extremely skilled to finish the song The problem: they can spam so even unskilled can beat this level The solution:
okay i know im coming back a year later but this mod STILL amazes me. i love how freaking *VIOLENT* tricky sounds and how that literally shakes the screen ingame. this mod just feels different from the others tbh
It's actually a reference to madness accelerant! One of the most popular madness games on newgrounds. I suggest checking it out if ya haven't, because it's basically you playing through madness combat 7.
2:06 idk why but boyfriend sounds like he’s unleashing an ultimate power, he’s definitely not yelling in fear, it’s almost like anger but a little of something else. Best of boyfriend vocals hands down.
loving 2:06 because even through Tricky's complete meltdown, BF puts his heart and soul into that verse, overpowering an opponent 50 times his size, and then reflects the exact same section back at Tricky at 2:17. it's so climactic this song is a gift from the heavens thank you so much Rozebud
