Imagine a subscription-based game where part of every payment and purchase is always going to be donated to a specific social fund, depending on what kind of missions you choose to do
@@JeremyTheBreadKnife well in some events like days of color and days of nature, they donate to trevor project and oceancleanup And this one's a long stretch, but they might also pay IP rights for artists like aurora, fellow studios (eg. Season of nine colored deer with the taiwan animation thingy for students), and book authors (eg. Season with the little prince)
To those who said 4 thousand isnt a large amount. Your correct 4 thousand dollar to a game studio is nothing, but its not the game studio that donated the money. The money was donated by Johan himself that funding left his bank account
I mean that's fair, but I don't see why everyone is parading him around like some hero saving many children, when a measly $4311 might partially pay for like a single surgery. If everyone who played (70% of a million player base) gave a single dollar instead, they could have donated $700,000.
@ragnarokaeon8242 very correct, more could have been donated from the studio or player vase if they decided to open up a go fund me in game purchase for a cosmetic
@@ragnarokaeon8242I’m sorry, where’s your 4,000+ dollar donation? Him donating from his own personal funds is better than just yapping away and not going to change anything. Especially when it comes to his own out of bank money where he could’ve used that for his own family, friends, outings, whatever. No need to be like “Why they parade him as a hero?!” Cause people aren’t? It’s just a nice thing someone did and people are realizing “Hey that was actually pretty cool of him” cause he did NOT have to do that over a virtual game he created with the help of others
Sitting in you're room crying, fearing that it might be the end. Until you hear thousands of pods slam into the ground. Outcome helldivers ready to risk it all to save you. God i love being a gamer sometimes
70% of soldiers were there to save the children, the other 30% gave there lives to make sure those clankers were distracted and unable to send back up.
Legit, one of my friends who's hardcore into HD2 and the community told me the other day; apparently it's become a meme in itself to never take the mines. It's apparently been an option multiple times and people have always chosen the other option, so now even without any expected reward, most players decided that no reward was better than ending the bit and unlocking the mines. Luckily, it had a wholesome outcome as well, but it's still funny to me that something like that wasn't "cool IRL reward from selflessness" but rather "taking a joke so far that it becomes wholesome".
"We are the Helldivers. We don't back down, we don't look the other way, we don't sit in silence. When someone calls out for help, WE ANSWER THE CALL."
Imagine your a child, your watching as the machine's come ripping and tearing. And then just before it's too late. The blackened clouds light up, stars shining through in such quantity that you think the clouds cleared up. Then those very stars turn into comets. Just hundreds of thousands of them raining down. Man those machines felt nearly the entire fleets wrath.
The sad truth is most helldivers players aren't exactly speed and precision incarnate so lots of those kids still got yeeted by the automatons or helldivers that weren't especially careful
now imagine, you're a real child in real life, and a video game company that has made well over 200 million dollars (as of months ago) uses you as a prop to donate one weeks pay of a low paid devs salary to a charity that benefits you lmao truly massive for getting 70% of a few million people to "save the children". Every dollar counts if the money is used properly, but it loses some of its meaning when you know with absolute certainty that the amount provided was skimped on lmao. not doing some sort of silly little skin that proceeds to go the same charity to have the players chip in even, just fuckin 4k and a request for praise, holy.
Imagine an alternate universe where the helldivers unlock children ingame as a stratagem and the devs do not donate to landmine manufacturing companies
People always say they'd be villains if they had powers, nah, they'd think they would bit as soon as they see a children's hospital on fire they're gonna be saving it
❤ Speaking for everyone thanks, it means a lot ( I’m not one effected but I have meet and have in my family many people who have disorders and have heard of some who have died of cancer) so you have my upmost gratitude❤
Unfortunately, I never read the brief, I just saw the thing saying to attack one of the two planets and picked Marfark at random. Now that I know this happened, I'll definitely pay more attention in the future
Listen, I'm a Helljumper from the olden days, and I used to roll my eyes at the new guys... But seeing make decisions like this made me grow some respect for them.
This is the kinda thing I like to believe is common, where even without obvious or even any reward, most people will choose to help someone else, especially someone innocent, rather than accept some other reward for not doing so
i had discussions about this with a friend over the Responders faction in fallout 76. in the event of an apocalypse or any disaster, people are more likely to band together and help each other out over raiding and pillaging
@@gusty7153 Raiders in Fallout games are unrealistic not because people are good and prefer peaceful cooperation, but because the raider to non-raider ratio is wildly unsustainable.
That kid's drawing and the narrator saying "kids that wanted to become Helldivers when they grow up so they could save people the way they were saved" I'M NOT CRYING, YOU'RE CRYING
I might add that on the subreddit dedicated to the game, some players obtained a new flair if they showed proof that they made a donation to the foundation (many of which were made in the name of John Helldiver) Freedom prevails !
Just recently enlisted in the community and seeing all this insane involvement is so heartwarming. Because when I read the major order I genuinely thought the community would go for the mines. Makes getting curb stomped by the cybertrons worth it
The best part of this was there were people so angry that we didn’t pick the land mines. Nerds getting mad that other nerds did good. People will never cease to amaze.
Remember the scene in Halo Reach when the TRUE Covenant invasion starts, and we get this satellite footage of hundreds of covenant ships arriving from deslispace while the system is detecting multitude of signals? Imagine that scene in the planet's sky. Hundreds and hundreds of Destroyers all arriving in dozens.
I wouldn't I'm more annoyed I lost out on 50 medals when this company with the 420 million it made could of gave enough without anyone having to lose out ... makes little sense to me
Me: "I am Super Earth and Super Earth is me!" *Helldivers salute me in thunderous cadence* Helldrivers: "For Super Earth we live. For Super Earth we die!"
Game or not. That is a community I'm proud to be apart of. I didn't dive on Vernen but damn i have to respect every diver that dived on Vernen has not just earned respect but my adrimarion. You're beautiful people for doing that for no reward. Idc about what the game offers. That's awesome and it shows that irl these peeps are badasses. For the kids of the future.
I kinda did want to unlock the anti taco mines, but…. I realized that the community wanted the children so who am I to argue? Protect those kids!! Also, we did it! We absolutely did it!!
It was a joint effort. The 70% that saved the kids were the largest amount that could be sent, and the 30% who went into the strategem were actually all that was needed to get it. No more were risked than necessary. It was a perfect plan, and totally intentional. These guys knew what they were doing.
I love how Helldivers is a game that satirize military duties and sense of patriotism but the devs and players are so wholesome that people actually start to respect the in-game sense of comradely.
I just realized something. Helldivers 2 is probably inspired by a game featured in wreck it Ralph which is called hero’s duty. Soldiers kill alien bugs and both games are very similar.
One thing that many people don't notice is that it isn't just the amount of money ( which was very generous) but it is also that the charity is now going to be more popular then ever and we can all go donate a little bit of money.
