The 40th edition of the Hellendoorn Rally took place in full shape as a two-day event again in 2022. Over 100 teams took to the sixteen stages which featured plenty of challenging gravel sections as usual.
Stéphane Lefebvre and Andy Malfoy started the 40. Eurol Hellendoorn Rally 2022 as big favourites in their Citroën C3 Rally2. But the list of Dutch crews with a shot for the win was long as well with Hans Weijs jnr., Bob de Jong and Jim van den Heuvel in the mix. Jos Verstappen, father of Formula 1 driver Max Verstappen, also started his first event in the Netherlands after several outings in Belgium this year.
After a initial stage win for Hans Weijs jnr. and Eddy Smeets in their Ford Fiesta Rally2, Stéphane and Andy won the remaining 15 stages and finished the event in dominant fashion, 57 seconds ahead of Weijs. Third place went to Jim van den Heuvel and Jouri Dockx in a Volkswagen Polo GTI R5 after Bob de Jong's crash at the flying finish of KP 9.
Parren Lambert and Frank Stultiens were quickest non-Rally2 in their Evo X. Nick den Braber and Joyce Ruiter were on course to challenge for that position with an exquisite drive in the almighty Subaru Impreza GC8 before retiring on the final loop.
The Eurol Hellendoorn Rally will return in 2023 at the third weekend in September, taking place on the 15th and 16th September 2023.
