As is the norm most often - we hear the very vocal Antali well before he arrives at the nest. And, as we saw in the slo-mo version of Dad's delivery, there was quite the battle for poor Finn to reclaim his own toe, bless him! Geez, that fight was quite horrific, wasn't it?
Finally, after Finn breaks free, we then see Antali grappling w/his fish, to get it into a good position for holding it, then eating. All those sticks on their nest certainly don't help! They snag his feathers when he tries to turn plus they get in the way as he tries to get his talons around the fish.
Next, in true Antali style, we know he simply HAS to tell the whole world that this is HIS fish - keep away everybirdy! This includes us as he looks right into the cam! ;D
Have you noticed he is bulking up? Note his body, his legs. Did you notice Iris has also bulked up when she delivered breakfish to Antali? This is exactly why we see her less and less. She needs consume most of the fish she catches these days. Motherhood depletes a female osprey of so very much, so she needs replenish all of that, plus add on the extras she will need to migrate.
We see Finn needs do the same and I'm sure he will as well. They have that pre-migratory hyperphagia going in within which makes them crave excessive amounts of fish. Their bodies demand that they gorge as much as possible and fatten up prior to taking their incredibly long and dangerous journey to their wintering places.
Back to Antali and his fish in this video - we see as anxious as he was to claim that fish, he spends some time just chillin' and not eating! =D He talks, he looks around, seemingly just content in the security of having a fish in his talons. Obviously, he's in no hurry to eat it. At times, he studies his fish while yapping on about it and it reminds me of when they would bug watch on the nest. Lol. I just loved when they did that bec I thought it was just too cute!
More than once, watching this live, I thought he might just have a nap while holding his fish! =D Then it seems he does do some bug watching and I thought, well at least w/the earlier parts of the days now being cooler (still hot there later on, late afternoons getting up around 90F!) we aren't seeing all those pesky wasps!
As soon as I had thought all of that - we see the wasps moving in. =0 Antali FINALLY starts to eat his fish but only takes a few bites. He notes the bugs on the nest (nests have lil' creepy crawlies on them), he vocalizes and then he also sees the wasps.
Then whoosh - off he goes to enjoy his fish away from all those insects - I don't blame him! =D
