Trey Parker has an education in music and, honestly, it shows in South Park (especially the 1999 movie) because the songs are so damn catchy and memorable.
@@raspberrycrowns9494 either that or you live near an LDS Church. I'm from SoCal and my High School was down the street from an LDS Church. When ever I walked to the shopping center down the street to get food, before band practice, they would always stop me. I would usually tell them I wasn't interested at the moment(I have beliefs more along the lines Deism or Theism) but would be sure to go to them if I had questions, they were always nice people.
Unless they learned it before they went on their mission, they couldn't listen to the song or look at the lyrics because they are only allowed gospel music for the whole 2 years.
Whenever I greet a customer (I server ice cream), I imitate one of the different "hello"s from this. I don't think my boss or coworkers have figured out why I say "hello" so strangely.
ur not the only one im actually here cause my theater arts teacher told the class about her friend playing in this and not to listen to the soundtrack....i am anyways
+Abbie Edwards This is an atheist's video talking about the contradiction of "burning after you die," since your body can't feel burns if the nerves are dead. watch?v=YcxyGnFU9bA I'm not trying to de-convert you out of your religion, I just don't want you to be afraid of hell.
It's actually not written by Jesus Christ. You should ask the real missionaries of The Church Of Jesus Christ Of Latter Day Saints and see what it's really about
i always welcome them in just to be nice. it got to the point where i had to buy two cartons of lemonade just in case they show up more then once. i have 12 Mormon book on my bookshelf.
Janae Fuller omg you're truly a kind soul! but aren't you still sad for kinda leading them on? idk how to reject them like I always feel so guilty but I also don't want to talk with them haha
Gustavo Cardozo actually I'm Catholic so I don't need a new form of Christianity lol. I feel bad because they always get rejected, not because I agree with their religious beliefs whatsoever
I'm sure I'll have fun in hell - when you think of how boring heaven's got to be; full of people who never drank, smoked, had sex before marriage, got tattoos, an endless list of interesting and novel things, well, hell's BOUND to be better when you think about it.
Some do. When the play is running there's usually Mormons nearby to further explain their religion to people who might be interested. The creators actually said that they've heard of people that were so interested in the LDS church after seeing the musical that they later converted
Go listen to "Esmerelda" from "The Hunchback of Notre Dame" and every time they say "Esmerelda" take a shot. You'll be faded by the time the songs a quarter of the way trough
It's so funny, it raises subjects like fgm, being gay and a few other things, it actually makes you think, but in all honesty it's hilarious, we watched it in NY, I can't wait to see it again.
Charisma Bros I would like to thank you for driving away from the false teachings of Joseph Smith, who is currently burning in hell. Now you can see the truth.
So, let's get real for a moment. A Lot of people seem to think 'The Book of Mormon' is a play that's meant to put down and humiliate the Mormon church. I don't think that's true at all! If anything, it's saying that while it's kinda wacky, it's not really any more wacky than any other religion. The important thing is does it help people? And of course by the end of the play it does help people (albeit in a slightly twisted way). The moral is you may or may not need religion in your life, but if you did, you could do a lot worse than a bunch of guys in geeky ties and permanent friendly smiles.
Yes, it's about how religion should be there to help people in any way, and when it is used to harm people it's the opposite of what it's for. Also, religious books are written for the audience and this book was not written for Africans so Arnold made it better for them, saying the bad things they do are sins and why. That's what holy books are for.
It can be taken either way. That being said, actual Mormons have gone to see this show, and they said that everything said about Mormons in this show is all true. So no, this show doesn't out-right make fun of Mormons, It really just depends on how ridiculous the individual viewer sees it. When I went to see this show, there were several points where the actors simply mentioned a fact about what Mormons believe, and it got laughs out of people, including me. Like in the song "I believe", when he mentions getting his own planet, most people in the audience laughed.
My cousin has a couple of friends who are Mormon and they invited him to go see this musical with them...and according to him, they were laughing harder than he was.
This was the first musical I ever saw in London's West End, Prince of Wales theatre 25/10/14. I loved every minute, it was hysterically funny, deeply wrong but massively heart warming all at once. By the end, I felt that I had been beaten about the head by the book of Mormon and would have happily done it all again! Much love for this show! Go see it!
***** Apparently a lot of Mormons really like it! There's a lot of Mormon in-jokes in there that the rest of us wouldn't get. Just like any group of people, some of them have a sense of humour and some don't!
I showed this to my very, very strict Mormon friend who went on his mission and he was busting out laughing. He bought the album on iTunes immediately afterwards. If you can't poke fun at yourself, then you'll never have any fun.
Someone rang my doorbell, as soon as I got through the upstairs door, I started singing, "Hello! My name is Elder Price, and I would like to share with you..." I got to the door and realized it was actually elders from the Mormon church 😂😂😂 it was the best!
This next Halloween, I swear - I’m going to go as an Elder and whenever I ring somebodies doorbell I’m going to either 1. Blast this song 2. Recite this song as Kevin 3. Become Elder Cunningham and yell “WOULD YOU LIKE TO CHANGE RELIGIONS? I HAVE A FREE BOOK WRITTEN BY J E S U S” 4. I’m atheist so this would be funnier
In 5th grade me and my friend would go around the school yard saying “hello my name is elder price and I would like to share with you the most amazing book” and if they said no, we’d skip away singing “turn it off”
Truly one of Broadway's greatest opening numbers for one of the best musicals of the past 20 years! If you have a chance to see this, take it. If not, you owe it to yourself to add the soundtrack to your music collection!
Jazzlyn Greenawalt Response of the LDS Church to the play was really cool. Their official statement about it was "The production may attempt to entertain audiences for an evening, but the Book of Mormon as a volume of scripture will change people's lives forever by bringing them closer to Christ.", no bashing, no outrage, and they followed by advertising the church in the playbills with slogans like "Book is always better".
I'm in a state drama thing at school and I'd say about 85% of the people in my school (and also my state drama group) are LDS. When we went to a state event, one of the other schools performed this on stage. I looked around at my group and saw that they were not smiling, laughing, and in fact seemed pretty annoyed. And when the audience applauded, I kid you not, the people around me didn't move a muscle. And then me, the atheist, found their reactions extremely amusing and clapped as hard as I could with the audience. It's a good song. I wanna see the play 😁
At school today, it's fancy dress day, and I decided to dress up as a character from the book of mormon, and whenever I meet someone, I'm going to mimick one of the hellos from this song.
