I like to imagine Ness's dad *literally **_is_* the phone. Ness is half telephone. It's weird. But I'm imagining a lot of phone-related dad jokes "Ness, my boy, did I ever tell you about the day your mother and I tied the knot? The ceremony left a bit to be desired, But gosh darn it if it wasn't the best reception! Of course I did have to give her a ring first." "I never needed glasses in my life. You know why? 'Cause I've got contacts." "Baseball's good and all, but when I was your age, I used to play tennis. Of course, I was a little clumsy when it came to serving, but a heck of a receiver!"

What's even funnier is the fact that you can receive the "Hello it's your Dad" call even *WITHOUT* the receiver phone, as if Ness is receiving the call telepathically.
@@BuddingResearcher I imagine that with how it was done in the footage, it gave me the implication that he was outside of the house and he lost his keys for them, so he thought that he should knock on the door like a crazy person, and then midway he thought of calling Ness, only to forget what he was going to say when he did, and then just said the same thing he said to Ness throughout his whole adventure.

You know whats funny? when I played through Earthbound on my time after watching this LP almost all of my dad calls came when I defeated an enemy, so it was like "Hello its your dad, you might have killed me by mistake son" over and over again

In Ultimate Ness’ father is depicted as Snake. While he is invisible in the battle itself, referencing the fact that his father has no actual canonical appearance (even the image used is the phone with which you call him), I like to imagine Ness’ father is actually a badass soldier.
I can't help but chuckle at that last one... and then it happened to me the last time I played Earthbound! Remembering when it happened to Chugga I was like "He's not coming home for my birthday either..."
