@@Gamex-FrontiersHe voiced the ancient Sith Emperor in SWTOR, which I praised him for at a con last year. AKA, sorry Ian, they found someone scarier than you to be a Sith Emperor!
"Explorers in the further regions of experience" is such an amazing line. They genuinely don't have any identity beyond inflicting or experiencing pain I always imagine that they still feel all of the pain that their injuries would instigate, they've just changed enough from it that it feels differently to them
I read that the Cenobites couldn't actually distinguish (I guess on a neurological level here, clearly they can make the physical distinction) between pain and pleasure. So yeah, for us, getting literally ripped apart and being magically alive to feel all of it isn't exactly ideal, but for them it's like getting laid on a roller coaster. And you really can't fault them for wanting to have a good time. It's just....not OUR good time.
I've often wondered what torments or horrors are their favourites "Your most treasured depravity is child's play to us" With that quote from the novel, our imagination is far from capable of understanding their most treasured depravities Things even the worst of us would never dare even speak of
aside that's in a totally different movie :) Oh and Johnny Says it not the priest. The church scene in 3 is an amazing pinhead extravaganza. Priest: "Demons are not real they are parables, metaphores" Pinhead enters.. Terry Farrell "then what the fuck is that" *points to pinhead*". Pinhead walks up the church stained glass windows explode as he passed them, he looks at the priest holding a crucifix and says "thou shalt not bow down before any engraven image.. it melts... walks to the alter clears it the candles light up like blow toches and with pins from his head in his hands he holds his hands out and says 'I am the way'.... Just epic ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-bdzmcJrG-MY.html Shame about the rest of the movie really :)
In the pretty bad Judgement movie, the Auditor is a pretty sick character. His demeanor, professionalism, and almost kind manner is just amazingly well done. “Jesus Christ!” “Heavens no! Same city. Entirely different area code.”
Pinhead and the cenobites do steal the show, but Ashley Laurence does an amazing job portraying Kirsty's fear and desperation to bargain with them. This was also her debut film
Hellraiser is such a classic. It’s up there with The Shining, Scream, Halloween, Texas Chainsaw Massacre, The Exorcist, and Nightmare on Elm Street for me.
@@umarnobbee2649 Scream was made as a parody of slasher movies mocking the unprobable scenarios in which victims get killed and the absurd reasons for the killer to murder in a realistic storytelling. Wes Craven's experiment was exactly that; to present Scream as a classic from day 1 not featuring anything new but only assembling cult classic movies elements and you just fall for that.
@@paschan ummm it redefined and revitalized the slasher genre and created a new sub genre of self aware meta horror. Not to mention it’s the most infamous horror film from the 90s. I guarantee it will be apart of the national film registry like Halloween, Nightmare on Elm Street, and Psycho.
@@tntbsyht Psycho, The Exorcist, Halloween, Nightmare on Elm Street, Friday the 13th, Hellraiser, The Shining, The Thing, Alien, Jaws, The Omen, Poltergeist, The Fly, Pet Sematary... all of them became instant horror classics. 25 years have passed and nobody talks about Scream. It was a planned trilogy as Craven wanted it to be, not because the public asked for it.
The Female Cenobite always freaked me out the most. She means business. No deals, no anything of the sort. Even Pinhesd hesitated and considered the trade. Female Cenobite was like "Nah. You opened box, you're coming with us regardless." And in part 2 she's even more impatient. This is such a great horror movie and I'm excited to see what happens with the new one.
I always crack up at how Pinhead reacts when Kirsty tells him that Frank escaped. Like he's saying "Ummm ok, but what's that gotta do with what we're doing to you CURRENTLY?" 😂
This scene represents the best of the Cenobites. They brought with them an atmosphere of sheer terror. That terror was missing in the later Hellraisers.
First and second are great movies . If they do a remake it should be a challenge to watch but not for the sake of shock horror an extreme movie that’s well written but really shows the pain and pleasure concept of this lore . It deserves that . It needs a director that’s not like Eli Roth no offense to him but he is just gore perhaps like gasper noe or David Lynch . That would be a proper remake of this for me .
@@samuraisoul1043 I don't have a lot of faith in remakes. To me they are just ways to make money because they don't offer the audience much new. They lack originality.
@@rainischalk-late3540 I know! He is so cool!!! I love it when he talks while teleporting and moring! I mean he is the only character that talks midgame and the second character that has voice lines! It's so awesome!
I love the tone of his voice in this scene. It commands respect, he doesn't sound evil because he isn't. You open the box, we show up, its that simple. You can't argue about, taste our pleasures.
***** well the first one ,made pinhead look scary as Fuck, especially from Certain Angles that he was shot in ,Most Notably when he Calls out Franks Name when he and the Cenobites reappear to Capture Frank
I was so petrified of this movie growing up I couldn't watch it till me 20s. Even then and even now it is just so well made you get lost in the characters. Hellraiser 1 is just an absolute masterpiece of cinematic horror.
There was something about the first Hellraiser, that the sequels couldn't quite capture. I saw this when I was eight years old, and this scene was beyond terrifying. It takes a unique and creative mind to bring these characters to life.
Its called... "studio interference" Which is why Clive Barker gave them the middle finger after the second. For the original Hell raiser movie the studios wanted pinhead to be a silent character. Barker had to fight in order to present him as he is in the books, chillingly hyper intelligent. PostHR2, the characters are abused by its corporate owners who simply bolted the characters into god awful scripts that when written originally, were nothing to do with hell raiser movies.
Actually Clive never had any intention to make sequels. he thought this movie will going to be a flop. so after making the movie he sold the rights to the studio, amd guess what? the movie become a hit and that's how studio got a cash grab idea, they started making sequels
Fun fact: I shared this tidbit on a different video about H.R. Giger's Influence. May it help anyone who finds this info worthy. Many are unaware of this tidbit but Clive Barker was and still is one of H.R. Giger's greatest fans. Prior to making the 1987's Hellraiser, Mr. Barker would frequent underground nightclub BDSM themed in the downtown area of Manhattan. This would setup the unique leather design to the Cenobites. But he did this to bring upon uniqueness to his movie and not "just carbon copy and paste another man's life's work without proper credit". Mr. Barker was enamored by Giger's works and obviously thanks in part to the 1979's Alien movie. The original Cenobites were actually going to be more "biomechanical" than "organic leathery attire". But along the way Mr. Barker did wanted to leave some of the core designs intact from Giger's works. As a way to pay homage to Mr. Giger's artistic inspiration. In fact Mr. Barker did show his Cenobites designs to H.R. giger to get feedback. Mr. Giger ultimately gave it the proverbial thumbs up. So yeah. The reality is the universe of Hellraiser was going to be more akin to biomechanical than leathery skin whatever. Edit: Forgot to add this tidbit. Mr. Barker did keep the chalky white skin for Pinhead and for the female Cenobite(s) in the first and subsequent films. Obviously paying homage to Giger's white and black airbrush works. Edit 2: Taking a step back to see the Cenobites as they are screams H.R. Giger's Necronomicon IV. Edit 3: Believe it or not the majority of the SFX teams for Hellraiser 1-4 went to go work 1997's Event Horizon. For many years people have drawn a strong conclusion that Event Horizon and Hellraiser share the same universe. Go watch Mr H Reviews video on and All Sewn Up video on it as well. Mr H Reviews brought his understanding about the connection and All Sewn Up did quite an extensive analysis of both films and basically how they relate more than it should because yeah The Leviathan is one scary freaking entity. And it's really freaking scary how The Gravity Drive looks 😳 way to much like The Lament Configuration. Both things opens up holes/gateways to another universe. Edit 4: Go watch HR Giger The Monster Maker by Blind Dweller. That's where I wrote my initial tidbit on the matter of Clive Barker's association with H.R. Giger. Edit 5: When I said more biomechanical than organic leather design I want the audience to see it this way, as in picture The Borgs from Star Trek The Next Generation or even more wildler The Zombified Cyborg Parents from Return of The Living Dead 4 Necropolis. Yeah somehow the Zombified Cyborg Parents are as close to the original design of Tne Cenobites. Go figure. Edit 6: The new Hellraiser 2022 is Clive Barker's original Cenobites biomechanical design(s). Back then in 1987 it was not really feasible due to budget constraints. Edit 7: Check out Tortured Souls: Animae Damnatae. All I can say is wow 👌
That line is sampled in a song by a German industrial band called Wumpscut. It's a really old song, but I remember how excited I was when I heard that sample the first time.
What was going through Clive Barker's head when he wrote all of this? It's groundbreaking in terms of extreme horror but it's also horrifying. Especially the last scene where Frank (wearing Larry's skin) is torn apart by the chains and his screaming. 😱 Andrew Robinson really stepped up his game in this movie.
From what I’ve researched he used his experience as a prostitute being he wanted to explore the evil side of love, couple with the fact he used to visit hardcore S&M clubs in the 80s where people would get their bodies pierced for fun. If you haven’t read the source material I highly recommend it as it is so much better than the film in terms of it being a seriously twisted romance novel. Plus I liked the cenobites in the book better as they were…. Idk how to explain it other than they were so much more weirder in the book.
Barker is openly gay. I think he said he saw some S&M stuff like this down the years, and was horrified at how cruel it could be. That along with his own fetishes as well, is the basis of the S&M sadist cenobites.
She squirmed her way out of this one but by the next movie Pinhead was like; "IT'S YOUR FLESH WE WANT TO EXPERIENCE!", "Not your skill at bargaining"...lol
I love all the Hellraiser movies but I really wish Clive hadn't stepped away from directing the franchise. Nobody ever really got the cenobites the way their creator did.
It makes no sense to me, the God of the Christian or Catholic religion created demons and angels, does it? Albert Einstein said time is relative and a psychiatrist works in a mental hospital And Aliens are from outer space?
I always felt like it was strange that you had Pinhead, that other thing that looked pretty alien and creepy with the whole teeth chattering thing, the sort of androgynous one who had some pretty weird and creative things going on with their throat, and then one cenobite who just kind of looked like a fat guy with sunglasses. Maybe he was like a son or nephew of someone important in Hell and that’s how he got to be a cenobite.
I prefer using the novel name Rather than the four studio name that was given to him based on a joke and a novel he was just simply referred to as the hell priest.
@@TheShape. "pin head" see you similar to the monster from the Frankenstein novel The lead center bite didn't have a name in the novels he was just simply referred to as the hell priest.
"Oh No tears please, Its a waste of GOOD SUFFERING" My god that is sick, imagine saying that to someone during the commission of an assault while staying calm. Fucking Sick
Ulyssis North A real horror fan can call something sick . And they are right, it is sick. And that's one of the things which makes this such a masterful horror film. The perversity of these characters, and the idea that a nice girl like Kirsty Cotton could be pulled into this horrible situation. Calling it sick is actually complimenting the skill used in making this movie, as you, being a horror fan, ought to know.
Frank and Julia are the true villains in that movie. Pinhead was just doing what he was meant to do. He is a collector of evil human souls. Think of hell as a garbage truck. Pinhead would be the driver.
@@FACF201535 I wish Julia came back in the later movies. I really liked her in Hellraiser 2 most. I like Pinhead but I wish they’d kept her too. She was really a sociopath.
The movie cover of Pinhead holding the puzzle scared the crap out of me as a kid, despite not ever watching the movie. It surprises me as an adult, knowing how well articulate Pinhead speaks.
Cut it off before the end! "I want to hear him confess himself. Then, maybe...maybe." Female Cenobite: "But if you cheat us..." Pinhead: "WE'LL TEAR YOUR SOUL APART."
