These guys are the real deal unlike todays outlaws they rode the highways seeking thrills and fun most had tasted war and wanted to be free of societies restrictions and they had come home to a country that didn't want them much respect to them
They were the last type of outlaws, in that form. The outlaw still exist however its far and wide in-between. Everyone with a camera makes it hard to escape, say bitch and you are looking at a prison sentence. HST brought Bob Dylan to the HA and now we have The Times They Are A-Changin.
What I wouldnt giv for a time machine.. sunny spring morning; Bass Lake..1965 (coolest year eva) Stop in that lil diner for a 5 cent cup of joe- best music eva playin on the box... everything is chill.. A different world in every way. I eat these old films up. Love 'em
Best journalist and my favorite writer:.he was out with them for a long ass time until he saw a member junkie George beating up his girl and when George’s dog defended the girl he kicked the dog a bunch and hunter walks right over and tells em only a punk hits woman or dogs then they all jump hunter like bitches …such a badass dude RIP 🪦 if you haven’t seen it you gotta watch the news clip from 60s about that story.
Top fave book…I know I love having visuals thank fully they documented a lot although I still wish there was more but the mystery is part of what makes it interesting.
love the early footage of the Angels. Nice to see Mother Miles sitting on left side of table. He's the stocky guy with thick hair and goatee. He passed way way to soon. MLAR 81.
Summer of '74 the HA came past where I was drilling a water well near Hwy 99 outside of Madera, CA. CHP helicopter and a couple of cruisers "escorting" them to Bass Lake, real fast. Nice to hear, for sure. Sherrif Ed Bates provided legal support, when needed.
You could only do this in a state with 300 sunny days a year. What a time and a place to drive sports cars, or motorcycles. Here there are 300 rainy days a year, this is impossible.
And it looks like Sonny was riding a Sportster that year! I have read that '67 was considered 'The Year of The Sportster' with the club as many of them had discovered what a bargain the new ones were. Whenever someone calls a Sportster a girl's bike, I always like to shrug and say 'Sonny rode a Sportster (sometimes) and he liked them.' Great vid, thanks for posting it!
If you view this film, it should be clear who enemies of freedom are. I want to cry for America right now. Huge respect and giant hat tip to Sandy and crew, from b-lo
I "personally" witnessed a guy in the Oakland Hills get harassed by a couple of Oakland police officers (this guy was working on his chopper on the side of the road, "officer friendly" stopped because this guy was wearing H.A. colors... I stopped to see if I could help the rider out when the 1st cop pulled up. By the time it was over two cops were there asking this guy 1000 questions. Honestly, if I hadn't stopped to help they'd have arrested that guy & towed his scooter (one cop even complained that oil was getting into the grass!!)
I grew up south of Oakland California where Sonny Barger's crew had their clubhouse. There were numerous HA in our city. They were complete A-holes. I wouldn't want a HA member living anywhere near me. .
This is NYC. It was about prime real estate. Getting the bikers off this block and not scaring potential tenants and buyers. The sale of illegal drugs was just the smoke screen
@Hal Colombo you drove past- nit sure if it was the lower east sode or soho- which it wasnt. Is was near Union Sauare . But you know there were NEVER drugs in that block... NEVER! They were just a bunch of Boy Scouts
descent people, just like the 60s rockers, ace cafe, 59 club cup of tea and a kit kat, motorcycles not the same after 72 any more they don't have that smell oil petrol grease. music was class, everything went down hill after 72
Lower east side was my stomping grounds in the 80’s amd 90’s. HA was the best thing that happened to E 3rd street. Back in the 70’s and 80’s early 90’s the LES was riddled with crime. They kept that street free from drug dealers and street hustlers no doubt. And the neighbors loved that about them. And were loyal defenders of them. The good ol’ days.
You had to ask.... I thought the same thing and then your question sent me down a rabbit hole.. goes like this.... I see the two guys , in a small office somewhere near the Angel's clubhouse... laid back office, "remo drums" sticker behind them and a Hendrix poster on the wall..maybe a record shop, or music store? then, at 27:56 dude answers the phone "brothers...brothers" I look up Angels address in nyc on google, and comments say 77 E. 3rd st. lower east side , so I search for a "brothers" business E 3rd st. nyc, and it is obviously too common a word because there are thousands of "brothers" businesses all over the area. So I scan the footage for business signs..and at 24:20 there it is..."Mother's Messengers" in bright squares. .. After learning the business name, I found it popped up mostly mentioned in several articles written about the second guy, the one at 30:49, named "Dee Pop" , he was a popular local musician, club manager, CBGB booking agent, and all around local legend. Hope that answers your Question .
Sandy seemed like a really really good guy. I'm 99% sure that I met him at Merlin's in Buffalo. Of all people I sit next to, I'm 99%... He seemed so hard to get a laugh out of (but I knew his true character by instinct)... He seemed sad and reserved but my younger buddies and I got him laughing. I could just see through whatever he had going on, that he was a good guy. It was early 90s. Glad we got him laughing that night, so sad to hear an icon is gone. When you see a pack of bikes in American, you know we're still free, because there's opposition!
Grew up there. We lived a mile from the old corral, that was when The Pines, Ducey's and the Falls were popular. That was before all the crazed meth heads.
I Luv the old film & the interviews of their neighbors saying only good things. The guy in green saying itz a free country. The businesses saying jus their presence kept the neighborhood block undesirables/crime away. When we moved into our store front here in Vallejo Ca there would be undesirables lurking about day & night. My friend said to me that once we opened & our presence was here that the undesirables would fade away. My boyfriend is a biker but I'm the 1 thatz here 100% of the time, really never had to do anything but stand my ground. You know your conservative types are goin to judge you, make up their own stories of who you are for their lack of confidence. Plus you know the city will never give you credit for makin a blk in their city safer. Itz absolutely stupid for anyone to ever think you shit where you eat. I like what the old guy in green had to say. If you want to get rid of evil ppl letz start at the top w/ no double standards. L&R 81
Dear Friends...We've got to get ourselves back to the Garden...We hope to achieve "New Utopia" In West Sussex, England...Thats because of the Exodus, Which leads all good Angels to Herr Christophers Commune....2070 is the Regency when we will be 18 again.
Great footage. I’ve never seen this before. Keep finding gems like this. Geez they sound sane and rational. So much for that bullshit image the media projects. Sure there’s violence and bad shit but it’s like that everywhere. I’ve known a few HA in my day and honestly they’ve been great guys, at least to me. Just don’t mess in their business and you’re good.
They can't find one person to say anything bad about the Hell's Angels on that block that goes to show that they're good everybody only says good things
So wish I could buy that dude looking out for and covering his brothers bikes a beer. I know exactly what he wanted to say but his discipline level is ninja while having baited questions rifled on the eve of a storm.. Such a stand-up job he did in face of the lion. Serious respect. Pray that all made out ok.
All I can say is Hells Angels Motorcycle Club is a great bunch of motorcyclists ,who like to ride, party, chase the girls, help the ones who need it most, they are misrepresentented by the government as villians, when in reality the goverrnment is the GANG and the Hells Angels are a Club.AF81FA,Wish they were in my neighborhood.
North Montreal ( LAVAL ) Hells Angels was the most feared chapter in the 80' s . Check out the Quebec Biker war and the Lennoxville Purge for some real deal biker wars
