Goddamn, Hozi's physical approach to the drums is insane -- she's dancing on them, not trying to punish them, and you almost never see that in heavy drummers. She is fantastic.
Saw them a few weeks ago with the Melvin’s… my jaw hit the floor watching and hearing her kill the set with her drumming skills. So happy I got to discover them while out seeing the Melvin’s!!
I met Ben Verellen once. He told me he was worried that the long guitar thing at the beginning of "Pretty As Pie" was a little long and indulgent - but that the other 2 band members wanted to keep it that way because they loved it. Very nice guy, humble and honest.
I met him too, before their gig in Rome a couple of years ago supporting Russian Circles. We played football together under the ruin of a Roman aqueduct. He is just an awesome person, friendly, funny and pretty timid indeed. He's also a great electronic engineer, his amps are badass.
I met him and we talked about the Seahawks. I was wearing a Seahawks hat and didn't really think about the fact that he's from Seattle and is also a fan.
Dude OK It’s so fucking crazy, I was working on a sketch a few years ago that sounds very similar to that intro. We must have been on the same frequency during that time. Badass!
I love this band so much. Never been in a band this good but totally agree how writing songs with your friends remains a mystery and a blur in the end, that is if everyone is on the same page... Which can be hard.
I saw Sumac play in Denver recently and I was really stoked to see Aaron Turner and Joe Preston using Verellen amps. Helms Alee are the greatest fucking power trio out there
There's like a cult of bands that use verellen amps and they are all bands with disgusting bass tones lol. KEN Mode, Spotlights, Sandrider, Brian Cook bands. It's awesome! 🖤
+David Tomlinson lol do her sticks not have the biggest tips, ever? i have never seen such big tips on actual, non-novelty, drumsticks. whatever works for her of course.. i just noticed is all :p
Love this band! I'd just started listening to them when they showed up with Russian Circles in Stockholm, Sweden. Great band and since I´m a drummer I was extra glad to steal a hug from Hozoji, who did a magnificent performance. They all did, actually :-)
yes - as good as these kexp shows are, the camera work is very juvenile and always overly focused on one individual ---- Back Up And Show The Whole Band A Couple Times!!! at least more of the performance areas... Please!
Man, I am so excited to get the new album in the mail and hopefully catch the show with Russian Circles and Ken Mode! Because that line-up is pretty great.
been sooo hooked on this band since they first came to Miami a few years back with Torche and BigBusiness.... Sparked the bassist up to a fatty and would like to think that I made her visit to the magic city that much more enjoyable
