Thank you for these lectures - they are a wonderful way of passing the time during a lockdown.

I enjoyed this immensely. While I am no great scholar or student, I can see the value and appreciate the beauty of Heloise and Abelard. I found them years ago while trying to convey my feelings through letters to my Abelard. My Abelard is in England and I am in the USA. Like Heloise and Abelard, our love existed in letters. I am so pleased to know someone is as moved by the couple as I am. As a small town southern woman, I never meet anyone knowledgeable about the lovers. Thank you. Sonjia

That’s beautiful. A year later...did you ever get to meet him in person? ‘Letters mingle souls’ 💖

Abelard and Heloise: I read the the summary story in Mark Twain’s “The Innocents Abroad” before watching you lecture. Very nicely presented. Very Interesting Story and your conclusions. Thanks. Greetings from İstanbul.

So she was much older than 20. Hence why she lived with her uncle. Maids weren't allowed to live alone and they had to be houses with a relative. Most often a brother. If she was still just a babe she would have been referred to as ward.

Fantastic lecture, which I plan to pass on. Many thanks for making it so personable. I look forward to more.

I am nothing of a scholar, but Abelard is quite annoying and self centered to me! Heloise is much more selfless!

Nothing new, always vilify the female and honor the male. Same old bs To me he's typical. It is her whom makes the story. It is she whom goes against the grain. Not he. All he really did that was beyond the pale was wow to her a time or two to appear her and ask her to never write again. I would have loved to hear either of them ask about their child's fate.
