Amazing, especially with the bright colours! I never thought the grout colour would influence the other colours that much. Thank you for showing this so clearly!
Hi Helen Like all your stuff but special thanks for this particular video ! It was really helpful in helping me decide the appropriate colour grout for my current project :)
That is an amazing difference! You’re right, the tiles themselves appear to be different colors. Still, I tend to like the dark grout better than the mid range. The mid range seems to make the tile look dirty. Where the white reminds me of a bathroom floor 😁. Thanks for the comparison. I am new to mosaics, and still learning a lot about grouting.
Interesting. I have never thought of the grey that way. I think we all get into our particular patterns of working and sometimes it's hard to see things with fresh eyes!
Interesting. Thank you for the comparison demo. It's great to see them side by side. I have to admit the mid grey to me made the tiles look dull and a bit dirty. The black is much more striking. The white grout I think only works in very special circumstances.
On mosaics where I’ve been tempted, for whatever reason, to use a dark grout, I’ve had to then consider the mosaic ruined. It has a terrible effect, like in your samples. In light areas, the dark grout has the “fracturing” effect, as you call it. A whitish grout has been fine for light-colored mosaics, but where I’ve had fields of both light and dark areas, I’ve come to use a light grout on the light areas and a medium gray on the dark areas, thus avoiding the fracturing effect in both areas.
Yes, it's definitely sometimes worth making the effort to use different grout colours for different sections. I have done that too and have been pleased that I did.
Hi Helen, is it possible to Dye a white grout after you have completed a project if you feel you've made a mistake or do you have to scrub it out and add the grey on top?
Yes, it is possible. You can paint the grout lines with acrylic paint. I've done that before! Another solution would be, as you suggest, to scrub out enough so that you can add the grey on top. 😀
I do indeed. Even though sometimes it is quite a lot of extra work - I tape off the area I want to grout separately with masking tape. It is definitely worth it in certain cases.
