Yep. I tend to think people overestimate how much skill limited takes because I think most decisions are very obvious in low powered formats, but that was one I didn't even consider. Very nice.

I'm not a harrier strix believer but I could believe that it would be good in a deck with tons of raven's and other crime payoffs.

I'd say red-blue was wide open at the start more than anything else.

Pretty sure he did not miss lethal. The raven only procs once per turn so he would have to use vault plunderer before combat so he would not draw the island and would not be able to play the intimidation campaign for the second time.

Sandstorm Verge is apparently one of the "skill testing" cards of the set, that good players use very well and bad players don't. It's solely for decks that don't have mana issues, but it is great in Dimir decks (and sometimes others) that need regular crimes.

@@TheFranchiseCA thats correct! it has a statistically significant delta between high winrate and low winrate players! it was great in my orzhov vampires deck too but its insane in dimir aswell (its so sick with bandits haul)!

I think it's a subpar removal spell and I'll play it if I absolutely have to but I'd rather not. It's just so much worse than the other removal effects as the creature can be bounced, sacrifice, or blinked with getaway glamer.

​ @haumph Those are all things that can happen, but in practice it's pretty uncommon. What you'd find if you tried the card is that removing the abilities is a significant upgrade over past effects like this, and most of the time, it does what you need it to. Yes, it's true that opponents can recover their card with a bounce spell. But that still requires them to spend a card in most instances, and that same argument applies to destroy removal. Maybe even more so, because there is so much graveyard recursion in this format. Rutstein, badlands revival, mourner's surprise, and shepherd of the clouds are very common cards to run into, so is that an argument against destroy removal? Enchantment removal isn't that uncommon in this format either, but that doesn't make mystical tether bad. All removal has its weaknesses, and stop cold is not amazing, but it's better positioned than you might expect, being a C rather than a D-. ​ The Raven was another card I identified early on as solid and performing better than expected, and you dismissed that comment too... but you have to admit, they can do work in the crime decks. I think you'll find, if you ever try stop cold, that it will perform better than you expect, and you won't continue to ignore it when it tables (I don't want to pick it early). I understand you're busy and can't respond meaningfully to every comment, but as a viewer/commenter, if I put thought into a comment, I'd rather have it ignored than dismissed without any elaboration. I know viewers are often wrong about cards, and I'm fine with disagreement. But it feels bad to put thought into something and get a very surface-level response that doesn't engage with the points brought up.

Yeah skulduggery is not quite as good in this format as it was in Ixalan. According to 17lands, Take the Fall has a 4% higher win rate at 57% vs 53% for skulduggery. Both spells are capable of blowouts during combat but one replaces itself and there have been many instances where I've just used the spell to cycle it and help me find a land.

Reanimate isn't that good in general. Awesome in cube, just okay in normal draft. 54.3% win rate to desert's due 57.5%

@@haumph thank you for the answer. I believe win rate stats on such cards can be a little misleading, and this card is a bomb in limited as well. Also in your deck a "one mana: get the best creature from any grave and put it in play" against the second "two mana deal 3 to a creature" is still stronger. Of course in the end you get the trophy, I get the words :)

@@haumph Also there is a way to determine if the degree to which variance or skill is a factor in the format. If top ranked players have lower curves it's usually a good indication of a high variance format and vice versa.

Your results may not be as variance based as you might think.
