Food cans are lined with a material to protect the can from corroding and from bacteria getting in. I don't think I would heat canned food over an open flame as it might release the chemical materials in the lining into your food. It would be safer to use a pan specifically for heating food. It might be OK for a one off situation but I wouldn't do it a lot.
