Bipolar depression can be challenging to deal with. Recently, I have bipolar 2 and recently went through a depressive episode. I learned a couple new helpful tips for dealing with bipolar depression that I want to share with you. Deleting social media, keeping a clean and positive environment really helped me during this past depressive episode. Also, another major tip is keeping healthy snacks around the house. Eating unhealthy foods when depressed negatively affects our mental health.
In this video, I share some helpful tips about how to deal with bipolar depression.

I am going through rapid cycles of Bipolar disorder and during depression I watch a lot of good movies and webseries and it helps me cheer up a bit.

Tried explaining to my dentist after they made a comment on how hard it was to clean my teeth. I proceeded to vulnerably explain that I go through bouts of depression and even neglect to brush because let’s get real, it’s not easy doing anything when your depressed and that happens to be the first thing I let go unfortunately. He proceeded to tell me that was no excuse and I should always take care of my teeth. Welcome to the real world right? Just a tidbit to share. Love and good vibes to everyone

Hi Hannah thanks for the tips. I have BP2. I permanently deleted fb about 6 years ago after a break up. Haven't missed it at all. I've still been involved in all kinds of fun gigs as a musician and I've found it much easier to avoid 'information overload' and getting 'peopled-out.' I also think it's helped me to avoid meaningless/destructive online flirtations and discussions. I also attend a men's support group (CR) almost every week and I think this 'in-person' interaction is really important for curbing overly introspective (and suicidal) thoughts. Still a sucker for junk food and RU-vid when I'm 'low.' My wife ordered me some really uncool-looking, blue-light-blocking glasses so my sleep doesn't get affected by screen-time or daylight savings. I love them! Sometimes when I'm down, I will take a bath or sit in the shower and just let the water soothe me for a while. I try to apologise to friends and family for being incommunicado. They understand... sometimes.

I'm one of those who enjoy making lists - but struggle to do this when depressed. When I can finally make a list (I love checking off finished tasks!), I keep it simple and sweet, no more than 3 or 4 items. Here's a sample - "Rise, Take Meds, Make Bed, Get Dressed." I find that successfully completing that helps me make mental goals for the rest of the day. And I need to put this into practice right away, for I've been stuck for almost two months in depression. Take care - time to get started on my list!

I can do the keep myself clean and environment clean but that’s about it. I’m in such a negative and agitated state that I find trying to read or do anything positive impossible. Self help books or prayers or anything that normally makes me feel better, nope I just want to throw it across the room. It’s like I’m someone else and none of my normal go to’s help me. Normally music, the gym, dance class help, but in a depressive state I despise them all. All the plans I make in a regulated state for the next depression go to shit and then that makes me feel even worse.

stacey chance Your not, 🙄I stare into space half the time, it's like wanting to connect and not having the normal emotions to do so. Emotional numbness is my least favorite symptom of this disorder.

I also take breaks from social media when I get depressed. I have started taking walks when I am depressed. I try not to isolate as much. It all seems to help.

The healthy food + keeping environment clean is SUCH a challenge when you’re in a depressive state. It’s a must though and I haven’t quite mastered that yet. Loooved what you said about preparing for the next depression, that’s a good idea that I never think about during that energized time. A tip from me during a depressive state: don’t hold on to the little day to day problems/ issues. Let go. I have to remind myself this because things can seem so much more gloomy and hurtful than they usually are when you’re already down. Things can get blown out of proportion and it’s important to take a step back, take some deep breaths and get through the hour. Kudos! Great video ♥️ thanks

How can we let it go.. Since last 8 years i am suffering ...Since last 4 years each year i suffer with bipolar depression and ONE AND ONLY ONE FEELING IS I ISOLATE ,COZ I AM UNABLE TO TALK NORMALLY WITH ANY ONE ...each year i leave my job due to this feeling plzz help me so i can takle this situation

@@beingmarathi9463 I have very short time on the very happy state max last few days now I was monitoring my mood changes and could keep going not to fall back to depression actually for 8 days.yesterday had a trigger so today I end up cancelling an appointment and still in bed.I just don't give a damn about food or cleaning anything. I hoped I can get through this but not likely... I'm trying at least get to go around 3...

Hi Anna,I feel connected to you for various reasons. I, too, suffer from Bipolar 2, and I'm just ending a depressive cycle. It's the timing that's amazing- I got a message of the video of the depressive cycle ending and I just picked myself up today, last night. Esther Cohn

Listening to good music. Making a little plan for the near future, nothing big. Writing to your little you. In winter white lights are good for me. Keep yourself clean, space around you also. It's hard for me...don't have insomnia, but I can sleep all day-all night, all time..

First thing, I let my psychiatrist know. She supervises the episode. This is important because of the suicide risk we are all exposed to. What we do is increasing my medication as soon as the first signs of depression show up. The episode won't last forever, medication is set back to a normal level afterwards. I have severe problems to deal with it when it's dark outside, so I go to bed early, again by using medication. Your tipps are great, but in my view only work with mild depression.

I live with a roommate who is SO MESSY and i get in these depressive episodes where i just have no desire to clean at all but i know the environment is making it worse.

I recently got diagnosed with bipolar. I ripped myself off my meds originally given to me for ptad and went into a huge depressive state and got in trouble at work. Im back on meds and i feel deperessed for two weeks. I feel stuck. I feel careless and irritable. I also have adhd and I have fibromyalgia which was recently diagnosed with. Feeling overwhelmed like i want to shut down and hide from the world rn. My impulse control for spending money is bad. Not many available therapists around.

Definately should do the taking care of self better part. Fitness wise im trained to teeth , weight trained and do yoga. Meditate daily. I eat but some chocolate trying to cut. Thanks im not officially diagnosed bpd but prone to seizure and migraine which cause severe mood swings. I feel kind of guilty saying I don't feel good. I start crying for no reason. I usually have the high mood. I think it's more when my neurological health is bad it affects my mental health. I do take a bipolar drug though. It helps. I keep tissues on hand for days like this. At least it wasn't a really bad episode. When we'll im very together working and doing well in all aspects of life except sometimes my mood changes suddenly.

The hardest things: - waking up at the same time you usually do - keep on making the projects you were doing so far - not feeling miserable cause you are cursed with this forever - not wanting to commit suicide - not attempt to food rewards and alcool - not feeling like a dead bag of meat

Hello, im in a depressive episode,, finding it so hard to concentrate,, i have no energy and im always raiding the fridge and larder for sweet foods,like an uncontrollable obsession. I don't know how to stop this habit. how does anyone find the energy to do healthy snacks and cooked health food when all they can manage is small movements and desire just to lay down.. I don't know how people do it. washing hair is a monumental task and keeping clean in general. how can i muster uup energy that just isn't there?.. many thanks.

How long does bipolar depression episode last? I was feeling like a better version of me the beginning of the year and now I’m in deep depression

The only thing that makes me happy is drinking beer especially when I have no friends most people are afraid of my bipolar disorder because they've had friends with the illness & it didn't turn the way they hoped.

*I volunteer for the humane society fostering/training kittens! my #1 *Healthy foods ad snacks. The only candy I TRY to keep around is dark chocolate. *Playing MMOs (massive multiplayer online) games. This is a numbing this that keeps my brain working menial tasks rather than spiraling down the rabbit hole. *Memes. Seriously, this is my most common thing. *Shopping or looking at things I'd like to get and putting them in my online cart (then usually end up deleting them later. This one is a hit or miss.

Hi Patricia. It is hard. Sometimes, it's better than others. I hope you're working with a good psychiatrist and therapist. Please make sure you tell them what's going on...and be very specific. I find that writing all the stuff down (symptoms, feelings, questions I have) at home and bringing it with me to my appointments really helps. That way, I don't forget and the communication is very concrete. What helps you? Thanks, Hannah
