I just completed my first online seed swap and I strongly recommend it. Sooo much fun, not to mention the huge amount of new seeds I never would have been able to buy.
Next year will be my first year growing a garden. All I have left to buy are tomatoes. Can't make up my mind. But I don't actually need many because I'm the only tomato lover in the household. One cherry, one paste, and one slicer maybe? That's still a lot. Oh well, the shopping is fun at least.
You do something pretty similar to what I do when ordering seeds. I usually force myself to ponder on in for a few days before checking out as well! Be careful with those little $1, 2, even $5 purchases. Those add up quick! My Husband (when we were dating) would stop at a gas station every morning before work and get a coffee, a snack, and a 20oz. Soft drink. Until I did the math for him and showed him how much he was spending, and how much he could save by making a cup at home, and bringing snacks and a drink from the grocery store instead. I asked why he spent so much money at the gas station and he said “I don’t, it’s like $5 for all this stuff” It ended up being like $150 a month he was spending at the gas station, and was only about $50 a month when he started buying things from the grocery store.
I definitely have to find a seed swap exchange. The way you said growing a piece of someone else is so sweet and I love it! I'll be growing my "Jill" Lemon basil next Summer here in So Cali. ❤ 🌱 😊
New subscriber here. Saw you on video a few days ago with a Jess from R& R and your pregnant friend you all were helping plant her raised beds and when our were far sitting for Jess. I love your enthusiasm and excitement over gardening. I too mark up and tab my seed catalogs in an attempt to not overspend or duplicate seeds. I have back eyed Susan and marigold seeds if you need any. If so I would love to trade for zinnia seeds. Have fun seed shopping and God Bless!
Where to you sell your produce? Farmers Market? Farm stand? Could you possibly do a video on that? It would be interesting to hear more about the business side of gardening and how you got started. Thanks!
First, doesn't everyone just want to be your friend? haha You are the antidote to all the craziness of this year. Thanks for giving me some positive vibes and joy. Second, our library (when it's open) has a seed swap area where community members can leave packets of seeds and take some. Even when the seeds are a new variety, I know someone grew them in my zone and I've had great luck with the library seeds. It's just a display at the end of the librarians counter and requires little to set up, would love to see this in all libraries.
Kelly you are so precious. Thank you so much for your sweet words! And that is so awesome, I will definitely have to check out my local library and see if they do something like this.
I am from Colorado and JUST found Botanical Interests this year. Beautiful packaging. Beautiful welcome to gardening note. Beautiful seed varieties. Debra.
I received my orders from Hoss Tools and Baker Creek this week. There are still a few varieties I’m looking for. I’m glad to know I’m not the only one that sets down and inventories all my seeds and then order what I need and somethings that will just make me happy. Gardening is hard work... it’s good to add beauty too. Blessings from North Mississippi
I'm starting a seed exchange on where I live. I live in a small town but I hope to try and start something to get people to grow. I also plan on trying to sell some of my starter plants this year as well!
"it's cool, it's pretty and I'm buying it" Unfortunately, I have to add more variables than that! This was a good video and gives me a video idea. Come spring, I am going to make a similar video talking about selecting seeds for the far side of nowhere! If the snow melts again, I will make it in the coming weeks.
This is the video I needed in my life. Heirlooms have tonnes of diversity and it's sometimes really difficult not to buy 10 different tomato varieties 😅
You and I have the same heart with spending money. I CANNOT spend more than $50 at a time on groceries or, say, a trip to Target....it actually gives me anxiety! And especially now that we are a one-income(low income) household, every penny has to be watched(even though the Lord provides for everything).....I honestly thought that I was the only weirdo with this issue 👍
@@ecocentrichomestead6783 I was looking at some websites today. My goodness, some sites don't have anything right now! I am not sure if that is normal though for this time of year.
1. It is cool 2. It is pretty 3. I want that I feel attacked😂😂😂😂 no for real I am so grateful you are doing this video. Im still searching for a better seed organizer. I also need to be better at keeping a good inventory. Thank you for sharing :)
I can see just buying for those 3 reasons ..of course lol. But once you get the hang of it all after a few yrs being organised and deliberate with choices..def set limits lol my limit was 3 of each type of fruit/veg or flower.. It made things managable for me plus I have a very limited budget
I probably order like 20 bucks here and there. I try to order from places that the shipping is free or the seeds are not expensive. MIgardener, Baker Creek, Etc. I like to order from Hoss too. I also like to order packages that come with the most seed for my money. I also have my seed in categories. Cool-weather vs warm weather. My imagination gets away from me though, I want to grow ALL THE THINGS! LOL
I want to order from MIgardener. I've never bought his seeds but have heard wonderful things about them. hahah and I feel you, I always want to grow all the things.
Wow, how large is your garden? I have approximately a 20x20 space and I probably have three times as many seeds as I need. I will be ordering more soon lol. Janice
I have ordered from seeds now in the past and they did really well for me. I typically don't use burpee but I know they are available at a lot of big box stores.
I love❤ watching your vlogs. I have always brought my flower plants, but if I wanted to buy from seed what would be the easiest plant to grow and produce flowers?🌺🌻
I usually transplant out in april and may. Most of the things I put in the garden I grow from seeds and then transplant mainly just because it's easier for me to visualize the layout.
I shop at " Little shop of seeds", owned by Praxxus55712. His seeds are great quality, so many in a packet, only 55 cents. I have purchased so many from him and always happy with them. You get hundreds for under 10$ and shipping is very low ;)
