I noticed that the nurses from the three previous shifts had documented “bilateral pupils round, equal in size, and reactive”.
Yeah thats because nurses and technicians dont actually do rounds for sh*t. I worked in a hospital. The number of times a nurse or tech faked something and just jotted down whatever in the patients chart is staggering. Honestly working in a hospital made me pretty sure i would never trust one ever again

I was hospital security. I was taught 3 specific ways on how to shutdown an MRI machine without ever going into the room. It's kind of a big deal. They've thought this issue through.
It's doubly frustrating as there has been an actual case where people were pinned by an oxygen tank and the quench circuits failed. Like, slightly different words and they now have a plausible base for their story.
My understanding of how most things work in the world is, unless multiple people died from it, its not an issue. When it BECOMES and issue, they think of ways to handle it.
@Shinnzo yes and no. When new things come up, risk assessments must be done. Just because something is new and hasn't caused deaths doesn't mean it's not obviously dangerous. Companies pay big money on studies to avoid even bigger money on lawsuits. But sometimes companies cut corners because they don't think there will be a safety issue until they are proven wrong by reality.

If my high school machine room had emergency shutoff switches for each machine and for the whole room, I'm pretty sure that MRI has at least a couple stop buttons they forgot about.
As a student in radiology, I have so many questions about how that MRI situation escalated to that point? Like what?! Unless you and your equipment are cleared by a level two MRI technologist, you are not, I repeat NOT, allowed in the room…
@@Absbabs88 the MRI is never directly connected. There's a secondary room for all the monitoring gizmos that also acts as a sort of locker room for patients. There are clearance levels and warning signs galore, and you get wanded before going in. (Plus all the preliminary screening and paperwork where you get grilled over so much as a silver tooth filling.) It's like the freaking TSA in there.

I have to have special key card clearance to even enter the control room level 3 and beyond that was the machine itself. There's no way that just anyone should be able to enter an MRI roomwilly-nilly.
to be fair, when i had my 3 hour mri, i prolly wouldnt have noticed the bruh stuck on the outside. oh, what happened during my mri. also just fyi a 3 hour mri costs 20k before insurance does its magic

I can say from experience that zippers are a-ok in an MRI. Metal without iron in it doesn't get affected much by magnetism; you could stick a brass doorknob in there without any danger.
I can't believe I forgot that there are several stages of metal detection and security on the way to the MRI. Ditch your shoes/jacket/etc, empty your pockets and get wanded; t's like the TSA in there...
I've worked with the giant magnet NMRI scanners in university, scanning molecules and those ones will suck things right across the room, but people are very careful as they cost £500,000+ per magnet, so it's usually stray paperclips
I mean, that just depends on what the zipper is made of, plus MRI machines can do some weird stuff to metals that aren't as magnetic as iron, an MRI company made a video showing an aluminum plate tipping over extremely slowly due to the machine being running
MRIs can work on all magnetic materials (albeit weakly), not just the ferromagnetic metals. Strong enough MRIs can affect dia/paramagnetic materials, there was a boy who got burned with a blanket insulated with aluminum foil.

I was a patient transporter and now I'm a CNA in a hospital so yes I have to have MRI training. The Captain asking all these questions is actually part of the MRI pre-screening for anyone entering the room w/ the machine. -Metal rods, prosthetic joints, dental crowns, pacemakers, jewelry, etc. Also hospital personnel should be trained to not bring gurneys, oxygen tanks, etc or other large pieces of metal equipment into the room. So the EMS personnel having to strip would not be out of the ordinary & highly likely they would have to do that.
I work in radiology. Not directly with the MRIs, data side. From home 99% of the time. Never even been in the room with the MRIs. I've still have to be trained to level 2 just to work in the department. How anyone could bring a metal gurney in is beyond me. How her hot between the gurney and the scanner is also a mystery since the MRI is always on. (It can be shut down with an emergency quench for life-threatening situations --like the one presented-- or for fire that can't be managed with MRI-safe extinguishers.

Well yeah it's pretty stupid for a bunch of reasons, like the firefighter said they can just take off their badges and they should have been fine. But when they all ran in she was the only one without a t-shirt, and her butt is pretty close to the camera so it's kind of obvious that the whole "metal in their clothes" was just some bullshit lie to film men and woman in their underwear
What's the most sad is that ordinary people watch these shows and honestly think that what they are watching is factually educational rather than fictional entertainment 🤦♀️

Actually he wasn’t an EMT, he was a firefighter being coached by a medic in a helicopter above to treat this kid who’s leg was stuck in a bear trap and who made it through a wildfire with no burn injuries, and the helicopter got damaged by smoke and crashed into the fire like 20 seconds later
@@augustferdinand6462 It’s a sticky situation. This is protocol vs personal emotion. Was it in his protocol to do that for the child, I don’t know. Was it the right decision to bring them to the hospital in the fire truck, I don’t know. It’s a tricky line because by going emergency traffic, he would put himself and the child at risk. But the longer they waited, the more suffering the child would have to go through. Again it’s controversial.

Killing the electric feed to a MRI would not depower the magnets. To do that you need to boil off the liquid helium the superconducting coil is suspended in...which can only be done by the kill switch on the actual machine itself. And if you wish to argue further dude would in reality have been crushed by that bed in 30 seconds top anyway.

It's so weird because you don't need to know a single thing about hospitals to think about this. Why would you have an emergency switch and keep it in a different room from the person operating the machine??
Cutting power doesn't actually help, a superconducting electromagnet in persistent mode (like the main magnet of an MRI machine) behaves like a permanent magnet as long as it stays cold enough to remain superconducting. However there is a big red emergency button (in the control room obviously, not on the machine itself) that will "quench" the magnet (trigger a loss of superconductivity) by venting the liquid helium coolant.

It feels like the writers of this scene had someone else describe to them what an MRI machine is, but have never actually been in one themselves. For one thing, they have plugs. You can just unplug them if you can't reach the buttons for whatever reason.

I went to medical school and we're allowed to punch patients. Ok, so it wasn't actually medical school, it was just one class. And it wasn't really a medical class. It was kind of a karate class. But one of the people there was legally a doctor
