Assisting a horse with toe cracks is crucial for their well-being. This particular hoof had been receiving regular barefoot trims by another hoof care provider before I was called in for assessment. Understanding the foot's anatomy, including which tissues need to be left intact and which need to be trimmed, is paramount for facilitating its restoration to a healthier state. Utilizing EasyCare VersaGrip shoes, along with using a versaplug and some medicated hoof packing, allowed for significant improvement over a couple of trimming cycles.

Your video just came up in my recommendations, probably because I watch a couple of other farriers and one cattle hoof trimmer. It's amazing how far the science has come in my lifetime. The only critique I would offer is that you explain the steps/materials/therapeutic reasons for your hoof treatment. Thanks. 🐎🐃🐴🐄

Interesting 🤔...I have seen the VersaGrip horse shoe glued on...the use of nails makes more sense to me. Seems like the shoes that are glued on could eventually come loose or come off altogether if the horse is super active or turned out on rocky uneven ground (pasture) for exercise. Nice job ...the hoofs look 100% better. (Transparency here: I don't own a horse...just find farrier work interesting...so my comments are just IMO). Thanks for the video 🤗

Glue actually has a higher tensile strength than a nail application if applied correctly. It's expensive so if its not need it's not always used. It has really wonderful shear force not great peel force. Cool thing is horses are mainly subject to shear forces not peel. peel is primarily seen when a horse steps a shoe off. I personally like glue on for this reason as the hoof is not generally damaged when a shoe is lost. Nails can in some cases take a lot of hoof with them when the shoe is stepped off I'm a composite glue on farrier 😊

@@shelbyhelmerichs9806 WoW! Thanks for all the great info. I had no idea the dynamics of the two types of horseshoes...I can totally see your point about glue vs nails. As I said I don't have a horse, so the info about the hoof is interesting. Thanks muchly for your reply.🤗

Surprisingly the glue on application is far stronger than a nail on application. Many people question whether glue will stay on . However when the trim and preparation of the hoof are done correctly , glue on shoes are more effective and reliable at keeping retention of the shoe than nail on shoes . That being said if I feel nailing on a shoe is something that the foot can handle and still be able to accommodate and accomplish the horses needs, nail on options are fast and economical.
