My cousin suffered from severe schizophrenia. Ended up on the street, as many like him do, when he failed to take his medication. Turned to street drugs to quash the demons but the fentanyl not only threw him into addiction it also made his mental illness worse. He ended up committing suicide. I admire your commitment to try and help these poor souls. I admire your understanding that the power of addiction will make someone do almost anything from lying and cheating to boosting or selling themselves…I have no idea what the answer is to this epidemic impacting all towns and cities, the problem is getting worse not better…perhaps cities should consider providing a secure area with dedicated campsites, showers and toilets, garbage and recycling to give these people a safe place to sleep rather than passing out in a back alley or alone behind some building….thank you for your kindness

When i was 21 i was living on the wrong side of the law and was sent to prison for armed robbery. I was sentenced to 5 years and had good behavior the whole time and was super fortunate enough to be allowed to go to a work release center my last year. If you dont know that where you go to super low security prison or "facility" its basically like a motel. And your allowed to leave only for work and you get a real job and have a ankle bracelet and $800 gps box paired to it. Only inmates with the lowest security level are allowed to go and you cant sign up until you have about a year left and most people have to wait several several months before your transfered (when i first got to prison i had the highest or second highest custody or security level because the nature of my crime being a 1st degree felony ect. I worked it down to the lowest. No sex offenders or people with escape charges are allowed. I think like less then 1% of inmates go to work release. I worked as hard as i could, paid off my court cost and saved over $12,000 (they automatically take 55% of every check as your rent and it goes to the department of corrections, then they take 10% of every check and pay it towards your court cost mine was $2,000 and they take out 10% and put it in a saving account you cant touch until your release. Most people leave with a couple thousand and ive seen many dudes get sent there with only 1 or 2 months left. I was super lucky and had almost a full year left minus a couple days. Its very hard to save $ because even tho its not a "prison" the food is straight from the department of corrections ie 90% man made meat and stuff you wouldn't feed your dog. Theres vending machines and frozen cheese burgers cost about $5 so most people spent most of there $ on vending machines food. Imagine your wearing street clothes, have a real job where your unsupervised and know one would know your in prison unless you told them(obviously the employer knows) but come back to the center to eat prison food. Im not complaining alot of people said it wasnt fair they take over half your $ and many of the rooms toilets dont work right, your in florida with no ac, eating food thats actually worse then many other prisons and actually they had super weird rules for example the food list we were allowed to buy from was a fraction of the food you were allowed to pick from in real prison and the amout of food you could order was ridiculously small like you could only order 12 honey buns a month where real prison you could buy 100 hunny buns everyday if you want to its your money and the $ is going to the government anyway so why limit how much of our $ we can spend? Like you had to.put your order in a very small window of time and theres only 1 officer who can approve it so if he missed your food order or forgot to sign it or wasnt there guess what you have to wait until next month to put your order for food and hygiene in where normal prison you can go to canteen every sigle day and buy whatever you want, very strange lol. But most of us were super happy to be there and i ate that bs food 90% of the time and saved thousands of dollars because of it, it was so hard you you had 3 vending machines you could go to at any time. But anyway i got out no court cost, no debt, no credit which i was happy about cuz i didn't have bad credit and had over $12,000. I did months of research on LLC's because i was going to start a business with my best friend and put up $10,000 (i told him ill throw in everything i have i just want $2,000 to keep in my savings. Well he screwed me over but things were going good up until a few months ago. Due to a string of bad luck and general bad things i became homeless. I dont do drugs or even drank alcohol which i did before prison and actually drank a bit in prison but not alot. I dont get in trouble and dont plan on it but i have $0 had to go into credit card debt just to eat and have gas money, oh ya i bought a car i love cash and put a couple thousand into fixing it up and making it reliable, which paid off cuz my car saved me so many time and i love it its the best car ive ever had. Sadly it broke down on me and ive been living in it and yesterday the police said in less then 30 days my car will be towed and the owner of the parking lot im in wants to tresspass me and press charges if i dont leave. I have lost weight due to poor nutrition and my mental health is getting pretty bad. It would be so easy to get money illegally for me but i would rather starve to death. I promised myself in prison i would never do stupid stuff again and come back to being a animal in a cage. I dont know what to do. P.S did you know homeless shelters wont yet you stay if your a felon even tho i read a study that said formally incarcerated people are almost 10 times more likely to become homeless compared to the general public and in California 70% of homeless people have a history of incarceration.

Be careful, Michael... I know kindness isn't one of the 7 deadly sins. But the saying nice guys always finish last didn't come from nowhere. That is true.
@lc-il6wr
I cant stand them slurring their speech. No wonder he got put in jail..them drugs.
@TheCalnat
Cale has become so entitled and dependent on your help, quite spoiled 😂
@manuelochoa9266
Hi Michael, you were right, Jessica looks really bad! I remember when you first met her and she looks even younger and she is actually a pretty woman. I guess drug use can really take a toll on people's health. I'll be praying she gets better and stop using drugs. God bless you Michael for being such a kindhearted person.
@rcpsammy7186
"Why do you do this?", he asks...
@dorothymalloy1474
God bless you Michael for what you do for the homeless
@Takaride
Glad to have a man like you among us in society!
@Alan-Albany
Hi Michael! I have a car now. I have a 2002 Hyundai Accent. My friend gave it to me as a gift. An elderly woman owned the car so the car only has 16,500 original miles on it. Shocking! Still want to move to Tucson, but cannot find housing. It's so tough.
@brandonlc1982
Freeze warning tonight... Streets will be quiet, but some might not make it through till morning which is a sad reality. Do what's right whether someone is watching or not. Keep your head up Tucson and anyone else from everywhere else.
@craigpittman9764
I was watching a video the other day where a country has solved its homeless problem. They've taken a warehouse, converted it to small apartments and brought homeless people in to live in them. They're no fancy, just one room, a bathroom, but it's a place to stay and sleep out of the streets. There's still people on the streets that haven't taken advantage of them, but they're available. Touson could easily build apartments in abandoned or empty buildings, saw in L.A. where they converted a warehouse into a place where they had bunk beds with a little extra space in them, and then had shower rooms and bathrooms separated, and a common kitchen, and a laundry area. The people paid a small rent per night or week, just a few suggestions.
@ruthfoster7939
Michael you are so kind to all of these humans.
@scottcunningham378
Well done again Micheal, God Bless you !
@TimeToStartOver
I will never understand why people steal from other homeless when they're in the exact same situation.. Thank you Michael for helping! ✌❤
