Helping people back onto CB radio. Alberts story 

You're a good man, Fred! This is the way the Radio Communities should be. Looking after people who are struggling in using their gear or as you say, just 'mic-shy', because this is helping with the isolation a lot of people are feeling right now. It's a sense of belonging and that's what makes this hobby so cool.

This is how we keep the hobby alive. Helping one another is what its all about. Sometimes we just need a little help and encouragement.

A year ago, my friend and I worked together to build our CB antenna towers from unwanted television towers we got from people who no longer wanted them. We both have President McKinley SSB/AM CB radios with fiberglass antennas a bit over 5 meters in length. My tower, with attached antenna is a bit over 16 meters in height. My friend's tower, with attached antenna is a bit over 13 meters in height. Most evenings, about half past 10 p.m. we talk, with really good modulation, the 10 kilometers distance between our homes. With 30 centimeters of snow on the ground, our power meters register seven bars on both of our radios, when we key our microphones. We live in the Northwestern section of Iosco County, Michigan, in the States. Since we've set up our radios, we've talked to "White Pine" in Mio, 48 kilometers away, "Smoke stack" in Greenbush, along the coast of Lake Huron, 40 kilometers distant, and "Rusty Nail" in Tawas, 40 kilometers distant. My friend was a radioman in the U.S. Air Force. He knows more about the operation of radios than I do. Kind regards from across the pond.

Excellent video Fred ...this prompted me to turn the radio on and listen to the 305 today, made contact with a few of the op's Hitchin Albert 5/5 to my QTH , Watford, Andy (I think ) 3/3 , Tim never a problem to hear and Harlow 5/6...cheers Fred. Great story Fred. Great example of the old \CB spirit. Radio users willing to help out with their fellow operators with nothing expected in return. I remember days when if someone put a distress call out breakers would appear from everywhere to help out. Great news about Albert. Heard a returning breaker in Brighton last week which is very encouraging. Especially after the bad press CB went through. Thanks Fred.

Yes set up old CB set up after a good few years up here in Scotland 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿 and listen to different stations and I no that the old fm has went quit but it was the good old days when am and fm where going strong

When try out my grant back 2020 i went talk local truck gas station i was doing radio check he heard me very clear.

The only problem i had my grant i had clean my knobs with rubbing alcohol using landscape stable to scrap corrosion off knobs soak them in cup rubbing alcohol back 2020.

Hi, I've come back to CB after about 25 year break on my old Midland Portapak and about to take my Ham Foundation License but would like to take-up Sideband on the CB, so just wondering if you have any recommendations a budget SSB rig.

Did you convert the Alinco dx 77 to 11 meters .. I am trying to find a Radio for CBing again been out of it for 40 years I wanted a DAK Mark X but can't find one so I am looking at the YASEU 450 OR THE ALINCO DX 77 CAN THOSE BE CONVERTED .. SEE YOU ARE USING THEM FOR CB

What's the chances of me getting out to you guys from my location, Haverhill Suffolk. Running a cre8900 on a 5/8 silver rod and a set of linear 100s. Got a qrm box arriving to help with noise problems. Have to admit I've heard no one on USB or lsb

Hi Fred, just found my old Tristar 777 and am gagging to get it setup. I used to have a silver rod but that's long gone now and i'm thinking of going mobil. Looking for advice on mag mounts for modulator style twigs, is one mag mount enough for this length of whip ? (Red thunder/Devil 1.8m - Sigma Modulator 1.6m) thanks in advance, glad i found your channel ;o/)

Very interesting video to me as I decided to have a go with my 1980s DNT fm UK rig today, but found it very dead on the airwaves. Is there more activity in the new ssb channels ? .I would like to get a new radio but not if it's as dead as the old legal FM channels. Alan in friern Barnet.

I've just come back to cb payed for a new antenna got I think set up but pole on the ground sws don't move I have a ham international I've forgot the way to set up since I came out of hospital with forgetting things because of my conditions I've been trying to sell how should I set my equipment

I gave up with radio from home. I tried everything and my signal just wouldn't get out far enough, too much in the way and I'm not able to whack up a giant antenna like an Antron99 so I had to settle for a 9ft tank whip with a ground plane and 50watts and it was ok but not the greatest and I got fed up with local people telling me I was "back of the box 10.1" No issues with the coax or radio just a bad area for radio.

Does Albert need a new battery in the power mic ?

yes i do have one those president grant i bought one off ebay back in june 2020 it hads ssb built into it which i have it on my youtube videos back in 2020 i did got s meter replace.

Albert he's need get DeoxIT spray for his grant it should help.

Just hooked up a mobile unit for my commute, it's mostly quiet but there are people out there.

You will probably find Albert was on frequency and you were off ! New radios are junk !!!!
