Helping someone who is bleeding heavily -- put pressure on the wound. Want to know more? Visit the British Red Cross website: www.redcross.org.uk/first-aid
If the bleeding is really heavy, hold the cut limb above the heart, making it harder for the heart to pump blood to that raised limb, decreasing blood flow
if it is arterial bleeding, elevation doesnt have massive results according to clinical studies. the emphasis is on direct pressure and bleeding control AT THE POINT of injury. use a torniquet if anything if its massive blood loss
Sad to see my fellow Americans who still mention calling 911. Remember we're on the BRITISH Red Cross videos. I would like to say the British do a fine job at the videos and are pretty clear in the explanations in them. Also wanted to add the videos may want to add that people who are responding need to be level-headed and be sad later on after the event. Asking them questions really helps.
10 yrs late but so true. these first aid vids can literally apply to any country, you can learn this stuff exactly the same in a health class, so why does it matter if they put 999 its their country 😭
#1 put pressure #2 have them lay down #3 calm down their breathing #4 make sure their warm #5 do a nail check ( press down on their finger nail and if it turns back to normal color it's not too bad, if it stays white their in trouble!)
I like that method of taking care of heavy bleeding very much. One time, Kade was doing a trick with a knife on his nose like a seal during a magic show I went to. And later, he tried to cut open a pack of cigarettes by throwing the box of cigarettes in the air and tried to slice the top off to release the cigarettes, but missed and cut his arm and shouted, "OW, MY ARM!", which made everyone in the audience gasp in shock. Luckily, Trickshot, who is a licensed paramedic during one of Tailsland's seizures who made him come to his aid earlier, sprang into action from the third row of seats and made a mad dash onto the stage after taking my cloth napkin from a fancy restaurant I went to a while back (Yep, it was with me at the time) and rushed to the poor Kandi Bear's aid. Kiara put the show to a stopping point as Trickshot was dealing with Kade after he cut his arm with a knife. Ouch. Don't slash a box of cigarettes open with a knife, that's dangerous. Signed, Angela.
the ambulance call is faster than reaching the hospital. by the way the victim may bleed out or get into serious injury while you try to reach the hospital.
Good helpful video, good to know, I'm trying to learn this kind of thing because I'm taking a theory test soon and this is good to know, they should make a video about glass being in the wound though, if there's glass in the wound you can't put pressure on it so what do you do then?
I cut my hand in 5th grade once, I jumped off the swing and was knocked out cold, after I started to regain consciousness, I heard Paige, a friend of mine, calling my name. when I finally woke up, I was deeply confused about what was happening, after awhile I finally figured out what had happened. I had cut my hand and it was bleeding heavily. and I had rocks in my hand...
to help u should raise your arm up in the air to stop loosing blood if their arm hurts support it and it should stop call an ambulance and im just helping i learnt st johns ambulance and we learnt to put your arm up in the air you should raise your arm it helps keep the blood pressure down and all these patients i hope there ok in hospital and no one should be hurt and was that ketchup may i ask?????
he's scared, in pain, you have no other means, Ambulance dispatch will ask questions to assertaint the level of priority. If you think you need them then call, best to take some training to now when to call.
my advice: make a tourniquet and keep it tight. Continue to apply a pressure in the wounded area. losen the tourniquet for a while if the limb turned bluish and tighten the tourniquet again. you can make a tourniquet by any belts or fabrics. this really helps to safe lifes.
A tourniquet should only be used as an absolute last resort. If help is too far away, then muscles and tissue will start to die after being deprived of oxygen. You could run the risk of the limb needing to be amputated.
Not necessarily anymore. Studies show, especially after Afghanistan and Iraq conflicts, that TQs are effective and will not kill a limb. There have been recorded incidents where TQs have been left on for 8 hours and the wounded combatants still retain use of their limbs today. They used to say "as a last resort" because back in World War 1 and 2 they would leave a TQ on for days before they reached a hospital and therefore they would lose the limb. Now days people can reach a trauma centre in less than 45 minutes. I'm a licensed EMT with 10 years plus of experience and have seen courses now teaching TQs as an immediate treatment to severed arteries or veins or severed limbs. And yes you can improvise a TQ but I would suggest actually having one on person to use instead of planning to improvise.

I realise that the film demonstrates how to control heavy bleeding. That being said, if the shown bleeding was the real thing it would not be considered heavy bleeding.
You need to be well informed to make a video. At least tell people to keep a first aid kit near by and how to use it. Not unless you wish to not know nothing at all. Question, do you really think if a thousand people called the ambulance all at at the same time, do you think they will come and recue you. Make better videos.
