Helping someone who is having a stroke (brain attack) -- carry out the FAST test. Want to know more? Visit the British Red Cross website: www.redcross.o...
what do you do if someone is on their back on floor in safe warm location with poss a stroke, apart from calling for 🚑, do you cover person to keep warm and raise feet?
+Trevor Lowe No, no and no! The extra blood towards brain could kill the patient! ALWAYS lift the upper half of the body, let the patient sit on a sofa o lean him to the walle! If the person is unconscious(!!!) do the recovery position, but never let the patient lay flat on the floor as long as he's conscious! The shock position with legs up will kill him in any way! But in case of unconsiousness the patient's survival is the first priority, so you'll need to forget about raising the torso and put him into recovery position!
An addition to the Arms part of the FAST test, if a person can't raise both arms it could be very distressing for them, something to consider is to ask them to squeeze both of your hands and if you notice a difference between the hands you'll know but they won't - it's another way to discover arm weakness without causing undue stress.
I too suffered a Mini stroke at home in early March of this year and my dad knew what to do. Plus I had my small dogs sleeping next to me. They both barked at my unit door to notify my dad that I was in trouble. The Ambulance service took me to Hospital for a assessment for a stroke. The next few hours the stroke team made me to have a shower before I went into surgery. The doctors who took care of me, they took out the blood clot out & inserted a stent in my right side of my brain via my wrist. After a few hours in recovery then I was transferred to a Rehab Centre for the next few months. I had to relearn how to walk again by using their equipment like the treadmill and the robotic arm. After a few months I was discharged from hospital and sent back home to recover properly. Now I'm back home again with my angel dogs ,I cam walk better with alot of practice & determination.
No you reassure the person until the ambulance arrives, let the victim of the stroke know you’re not going anywhere and you’re staying with them to reassure them. Hence why the fast test for stroke has saved many people’s lives because of the act of kindness of those who found the person having a stroke.
When you think of all the meaningless sometimes damaging and toxic bs we get bombarded with every day on the Internet. Wouldn't it be just great to see less of that and more of this. Here's hoping🤞
I have hemiparesis, so naturally I have weakness on one side. I have poor coordination in my left arm, and I have a slight limp (equinus affecting left side. Leg's pretty tight), as well as poor vision in my left eye (I can see out of it, but it's very blurry and gives me a headache, so once when my right eye became irritated, I decided to just keep both my eyes closed rather than get a bad headache). I also have autism (symptoms point more to Asperger's Syndrome, to be specific) and I was born premature. I was told that during infancy, I had a stroke, and I had an event involving respiratory arrest. Throughout my childhood, I've had motor tics on occasion, but they increased in severity and frequency ever since I learned that my father passed away. I used to have pulmonary issues; I frequently became ill with respiratory-tract infections, and I used to need a nebulizer daily. Thankfully, this has improved, although being around smoke and fumes makes it hard for me to breathe. I think I might be a hypochondriac, but is it possible that I might have a form of cerebral palsy?
Panos WakeUp Well, it's not always as obvious as this. Sometimes the symptoms of a stroke are kind of vague. The FAST test can help determine if the person needs medical help.
It's awful to think this might happen but It's good to know what to do incase you're in an event where something did happen... You never know, You could save somebody's life! How good would you feel?!
Aside from the speech part of the F.A.S.T. test; another warning sign someone is having a stroke is that the person will start to complain of a smell like burned toast.
I’m 17 years old and I have a lump on the side of my head, my arms are hurting and my left side of my face is really hurting!! idk if I’m having a stroke but I’ve just come out of the bath I feel cold... I have also had a heart attack before
I'm certified in CPR but I only came close to having to use it. Never gotten to and I hope I never have to...its a tragic thing. BUT, I am very glad that you've saved your moms life.
If he just walked in, he may not have known what time it started..you have to call 911 quickly if you suspect a stroke because you have to try to save the brain as quickly as possible.
Here in the US, any adult who is competent can refuse care. So if I went ahead and did what they told me not to, I can get in trouble for that. If I were giving care and the refused the other part(assuming they were competent) I can get in trouble. To add a disclaimer, I do not represent nor do I work for the American Red Cross. We have "Good Samaritan" law that vary state by state. From watching the British Red Cross(great job by the way with the videos) the idea of treatment is the same.
In commonwealth counties you ring them up, get dismissed there and then or at the hospital run by intern doctors that HNFIWTDoing ,then your loved ones die, of course the hospitals do there best cover up their negligence.
A stroke is what happens when blood flow to your brain gets cut off. It can be caused by a blood clot in your brain, or by one of your brain's blood vessels bursting.
This is nothing to laugh about. And the SLOW test doesn't exist( at least I have never heard of it.) Why don't you post your comment on something that is actually funny. And for the 2 people that liked this comment, why don't you do the same thing. I'm disgusted with this comment I am in fact going to report it.
airoman123 Nice to see somebody actually read the name of this channel well done you. If only the self centred americans who think america is the only country in the world did too.
I suffered a hemorrhagic stroke about 4 years ago I was in hospital for a long time after that about 5 months then I went to rehab in Leeds at Daniel Yorath House in Garforth if it wasn't for the people in hospital I wouldn't be here xx
+diya1427 Not really, since a stroke is a blood clot located in the brain. One thing you can do however is stay with the person and keep watch on them so they know that there is help on the way and that someone's nearby.
@@danielledewitt1 Can you please stop? There's really no need for you to be so rude. How do you know these aren't kids who are simply unaware that Britain doesn't have the same emergency number as America? Think about that the next time you want to lash out at people online.
Jacob Some can be self centred adults who think america is the only country. Even kids are taught that different countries have different emergency numbers. I know because I was taught that at school.
my grandmother's friend Beryl had a stroke but is still alive, sadly like Tim Curry who also suffered a stroke back in the day she is sadly immoble and now stuck in a wheelchair due to it, but she still remembers my gran and talks to her a lot when she visits
