Swallowed up in the joy of Christ for me means, swallowed up in the peace Christ brings. Facing my own life situations, things don’t always turn out the way I expected, wanted or hoped but if I think celestial, there is always a feeling of peace that only Christ can bring. Thank you for another great podcast.

That is a fantastic definition of being swallowed up in the joy of Christ. That is very helpful, thanks! Does anyone else have any ideas to add?

It defies logic, how I can feel good, I would say almost happy, given my present circumstances. For me, this is being swallowed up in the joy of Christ. It feels like a gift, a huge tender mercy. It doesn't mean that I like my situation. I really, really don't. As I have come to uncouple myself from worldy pursuits and spend more time learning about Jesus Christ and his doctrine, i have experienced a sweetness of feeling that brings tears to my eyes and a smile to my face. Thank you @marilynjensen8096 for the comment above and @thescripturesarereal for the invitation to add more to the conversation. It made me ponder this week's assigned scriptures more deeply. :)

@@seethetemple I love this! You are right, it does defy logic. Sometimes, through Christ, we have peace and happiness even when it seems we shouldn't be able to. Sometimes it is hard for us to allow ourselves to feel that when loved ones are not feeling it, but it is a gift Christ gives to us, and will give to others. I would love to further explore this with thoughts from others. I am grateful for what we are talking about here!

Thank you for another great discussion, lots to learn in this section of the Book of Mormon. Life long lessons here and a need to be swallowed up in the joy of Christ, so much to be swallowed up into, I am so grateful for the times when I am blest to feel His joy. It’s what Lehi experienced do you think? Korihor is a prime example of those who inhabit the great and spacious building, and the tree of life surely represents Christ and all He offers as we are willing to receive and live worthy of. I love the experienced thoughts and sharing of both you, Andrew and Kerry, thanks again.

Thank you! I think you are right, and that is a great example. Lehi saw so much sorrow, but I think it was also swallowed up in the joy of Christ. Nephi seems to be pleading for that too, as did Jacob. Thanks for helping me think of that!

@@TheScripturesAreReal Just one other thought that came because of the front to middle and back to middle study of the Book of Mormon I am endeavouring to complete. Abinadi is a character who backs Korihor and I am just wondering if you know of any in-depth studies that have been done comparing those two characters. Clearly they are opposites, maybe there is a case study of the two that has been done. I will sometime myself if I can’t find one. Thanks

John Hilton’s video is no longer available. This happens regularly when I share content. Just saying everyone needs hard drive back ups and at that my home is involved even when I sleep and thousands of dollars of security doesn’t keep them out

Do you mean you can't see the episode with John Hilton anymore? I am not sure why that would be. Or are you saying something else? Sorry I don't fully understand.

As far as the pre existence. He does not say according to our faith but our growth-- what we have learned and aspired to in my mind. I don't think this would apply to those in need or even the circumstances we are born into as much as the positions we are put in for future growth and fulfilling our individual missions. There is much to read and consider on this thinking.

I think we both agree that we know precious little about pre-mortality, or about how it affects us here. I agree that based on the small amount we know and my own reasoning that the best guess we can make is that what we did in pre-mortality affects us here primarily in that we are put where we need to be to do what we need to do. I think that is about all we can say about it.

I do not agree fully with the idea that our circumstances of life are due to our faith or lack of in the pre earth life. I think of you use this idea it will butt heads with the more relevant teachings of king Benjamin. If we let Dr skinners idea go to far we could end up saying to those in need that they brought it upon themselves and not act in a Christ like way. There is a need for explanation here and the scriptures he cited dint hold water for me in the way he wants. Also I have not heard modern prophets teach this in any significant way.

Apparently we didn't explain this very well. I do think that our pre-mortal life affects what we do and are here, but I 1000% agree that we can't tell anything about pre-mortality based on where and how we come to life here. I am sure there are amazingly valiant people who come into this life in all sorts of different circumstances. I am sorry if we didn't convey that well. Thank you for pointing it out.

Race and the Priesthood, Topics & Essays. "Today, the Church disavows the theories advanced in the past that black skin is a sign of divine disfavor or curse, or that it reflects unrighteous actions in a premortal life;" In 1952 many church leaders believed in this mistaken idea, and applied it to other situations such as those born in various parts of the world, and families. I do give grace to errors and mistakes, and appreciate more light and knowledge now.
@TheScripturesAreReal
@TheScripturesAreReal Месяц назад
@@jennydc8 I very much agree with that! I agreed with that before that statement was made officially. I don't think that means that President Nelson wasn't put in the time and place he needed to be in because of who he was in pre-mortality. I am sure he was. Same with Joseph Smith. I think our lives there impact our lives here, but I think 90% of the time we can't say exactly how.
