The teenage years can be challenging for both parent and child. The life of a teenager is a continual balance of school and social activities, and can be full of emotional swings brought on by physiological changes that take place during adolescence. But when epilepsy is added to the mix, the challenges can increase exponentially. What can you do as a parent to help your child navigate this difficult period of life while also dealing with a difficult health condition.
This week on Seizing Life we speak with Angie Froehlich about parenting a teenager with epilepsy. Angie’s daughter Chloe was diagnosed with epilepsy at age 12. For the past four and a half years they have been navigating neurologists, epileptologists, medication side-effects, teachers, IEPs, anxiety and depression. Angie shares her perspective as Chloe’s mom, discusses their epilepsy journey, provides insight on the physical and psychological impact epilepsy has had on her daughter, and offers advice for fellow parents of teens with epilepsy.

Thanks for sharing this interview! Being a parent of a child who has epilepsy, it's helpful to hear the experiences of others. We're in this together!

I wish there was a resource like this for my mom when I was a teenager. Thanks for uploading this.

It’s so good to hear another parent’s journey with a teen who has epilepsy this was so helpful for me. I have a teen son with the same type of epilepsy, he has had it for 4 years. Its been so hard to watch him change and become a completely different boy.

Boy I identify with all of your experiences. We have had the same experiences with our son. Keppra was our son’s first medicine and it was a nightmare with the side effects.
