I gotta say I'm SUPER biased to the original cast, but this one I really liked. However the only thing that didn't sit with me, is when, in Satisfied, Angelica says "I'll leave you to it". She says it like she said it in Helpless, and I really appreciated Renée Elise Goldsberry for saying it in a more hurtful/regretting way. It adds a lot more to Angelica's point of view in that song. Other than that, really solid showing!
wait im confused cos renée always said that line in the exact same tone as she said in helpless...? thats what renée, herself, said in an interview. she deliberately says that line in the exact same way she did in helpless to show that angelica is really good at covering her real emotions.
@@starrytala That's interesting, I haven't seen that interview but I'll take your word for it. Maybe she didn't change it, but I guess it had a more neutral sound to it, as to the one in this video sounds waaay happier/cheerful in the first place, and I really think it doesn't belong in Satisfied.
@@elcabronculero3 oh sorry, not interview, she tweeted it. maybe you remember her expression? After she said that line in helpless, she kept her smile. in satisfied, her smile faded, but she delivered the same line in the same tone. Her exact tweet was: "My intention is always to deliver the lines the same. Because it is the same moment, from 2 different perspectives."
@@starrytala Yeah, I totally get what you're saying, and I actually did associate her expression (Which does change). But, yeah, overall I think Renée's way of saying it, is still not extremely playful/joyful (In both songs), so it fits better either way. And the way it's said in this video, I just find it to be a little too playful for when Satisfied plays. So it didn't really sit well with me.
I love how the different franchises of Hamilton musical perform differently from each other. Though the choreography is the same, the other aspect of their performance can be considered unique.
@UnionRags123 they are tho. this cast is amazing don’t get me wrong. but an aspect of musical theatre is that you will never see the same show twice, even if you’re seeing it with the same cast. yes the music, script and choreography is the same but every actor brings a fresh new take (even the same actors can perform certain things differently on certain days) and that’s what so exciting about live theatre.
I never thought anyone could match Renee Elise Goldberry's original (Disney) version of satisfied, but holy forking shirtballs am I glad to be wrong. What a talent. What a voice.
Thank you for replacing "f*ck" and "sh*t" with kinder words, I don't want my child to see this one day. Truly do appreciate it In other words that made me choke on my juice cause I was caught off guard LMAO
Rachel's young Eliza is so refreshing. And the way she looked at Hamilton as he talks about his childhood is so sweet and understanding just like Lil wrote Eliza's personality. Rachel did such a great job
This is the cast i saw live, I was at the edge of my seat the entire show!!!! Even got to meet some of them after the show and i got some slefies and autographs! they were such amazing people!
I would describe Rachelle's Eliza as something like Anna from Disney's Frozen. She has more attitude, more lively, and still naive. It's different from Pippa's, but I also like this iteration of the character
I love the way at 9:01 when alexander and Eliza walk slowly towards each other it’s much better than when they do it more rushed and they have no eye contact! Loveee rachelle I think she was a great Eliza :)
Yup, Unfortunately there's no Original West End Cast for this Musical, Unlike Heathers the Musical Which Have Both off-broadway (US) and West end (U.K.) recordings
I just saw this on the West End in London the other night. Absolutely LOVED it! I was, and still am, in awe. This part is one of my favorites. Such clever choreography and stage management. And "Satisfied" has been on repeat since the show!
For those who are are saying that they aren’t that good, they actually have to work harder than the original cast. Not only they have to sing, they have to sing in an American accent. The fact that they can sing and they can sing in an American accent means that it’s a possibility that they are better than the original cast.
lol that’s not how that works. This cast is pretty good though. That said. it’s typical for West End casts not to live up to Broadway versions because they don’t have anywhere near the pool of talent that the US does.
I was worried about watching the British cast, because I've rinsed the original cast's performances soooo many times haha 😅 But this was really moving and excellent performances! Off to save up I go 🤑🤩😍😁
I have seen different casts perform Hamilton but I don’t think anyone has matched Renee Goldsberry in Satisfied. She is a hurricane when she sings that song
I played the role of Robbie (the lead) in my high school's production of The Wedding Singer. After graduation I moved to New York and wanted to audition for Hamilton, but they wouldn't even give me a chance. Like they wouldn't even let me in the door to attempt to audition or send a video or headshots. After over a year of trying other shows just get anyone to give me a chance to audition I ended up moving back to my hometown and got a job at my local bank.
Thanks for sharing. I enjoyed the changes of personality in the girls compared to all the others I’ve seen doing these roles. I think a bit like the Aussie version the diction is cleaner which does show the different accent off more. Nothing wrong with that. And given when it was set there’d be a certain level of British influence on their speech - esp the ladies.
i love it but i was kinda let down personally by a few things that i loved in a few others. 1. you dont get the painful strain in angelica's voice when she says 'i'll leave you to it'. but this one was kinda funny. though it destroys the feeling. 2. you dont get the painful rememberance in lin-manuel's voice when hes talking about his mothers face. 3. you dont get the arguementative tone in angelica or elizas voices when talking about a harem. as well as the fact that angelica just took the letter softly instead of snatching it. but all this could also just be the fact that as a writer and literature buff, tone is extremely important. though this was a masterpiece. some tone moments i liked were 1. rachelle's peppy and childish vibe. i feel that it matches elizas persona a lot better. 2. rachel's motherly feel, gentle but funny 3. hamiltons actor is so full of emotion, and seems so, well, bright. i love this in an actor. but thats all i have.
I went to go and see the London version a month ago and boy did I love it. And to make things better, I had Korean food before I went to see Hamilton and it was delish
I have watched Hamilton in London 5 times. Last time a week ago. This Angelica was the best I have ever seen. She quit too soon. This Hamilton was the understudy tho.
I kind of like how this portrayal of Angelica is optimistic. Don't get me wrong, I absolutely love Renee Elise Goldsberry as Angelica, but I really liked this actress :)
this eliza seemed a lot more expressive in comparison to phillipa's, which was a lot more reserved (which i though was fitting). this angelica seemed a lot less somber during satisfied
I mean if most British people - like myself - were singing with an American accent there wouldn’t be English accent coming through, just fake sounding/extreme American accent
@@carlosalejandroalvarenga4913 yes Rachelle is born and raised in the Philippines. She rose to fame through a singing competition in a noontime variety show when she was in her teens
Yeah, but Oak always seemed more energetic as the flower girl, this Herc seems kinda more reluctant to be the flower girl, like he was the only one available or something Oak's Herc looks more like he asked to be the flower girl
In west end, Rachelle Ann Go did a british accent. Last night, her performance here in the Philippine stating of Hamilton she switched to her Filipino accent. The theater was jam-packed last night and all cheers for a great performance.
Noticed this as well while rewatching this vid. Even some part of how she sanghelpless here is different from when she performs here in the PH. Now that's co.plete and total acting if I ever see one ❤ hoping to get to wat h it again before the shows end 😭
Rachel’s bubbly and childish persona for Eliza is so charming it just makes me feel giddy. I love both versions, but I’m a little bit more in love with this Eliza - and even Angelica in this production makes me really happy. She has such a motherly/sisterly vibe to her.
@@Hagridslefttoee for me its when she says “ha” after angelica asks to share him. Some parts seemed off key, maybe its just the recording, but rachelle acted a little too much and the vocals werent as powerful, like she was holding back
I love how comfortable Rachelle Ann Go is iin Hamilton as this show somehow enable her to revert to her pop style of singing here in the Philippines before she was doing musicals.
I remember people hating the west end production because of the English accents slipping in and out but I think it’s so endearing, and I’m glad others in this comment section agree.
They actually TRIED(and successfully) to do an American accent for ‘American’ characters, meanwhile the American casts for Six the musical didn’t even attempt any European accent. (With the exemption of haus of holbin) Edit: an English -> any European
