The new Hakaniemensilta bridge in Helsinki is an exciting project. Here are the key details:
Purpose: The original Hakaniemi bridge, completed in 1961, is deteriorating, necessitating a replacement.
Construction Timeline:
Start Date: February 2022.
Expected Completion: Late 2024.
Location:
The new bridge will be built to the east of the old one.
It connects the northern part of Kruununhaka and the coast road of Sörnäinen.
Design Features:
Low Structure: Unlike typical cable or suspension bridges, the new Hakaniemensilta bridge won’t have overhead supports.
Lightweight: Designed to blend with the cityscape, it won’t stick out.
Opening: Approximately 100 meters, with a maximum vessel height of 4.7 meters.
Transportation Improvements:
Two lanes for cars in each direction.
Enhanced facilities for pedestrians, cyclists, and public transport.
Overall Project Duration: Approximately three years, considering demolition of the old bridge.
Exciting times for Helsinki’s infrastructure!
