Pihlajamäki is a neighborhood in Helsinki, known for its significance in Finnish architecture. It’s the first suburb built in the 1960s in Helsinki that was conserved en bloc with a town plan. The area represents high-quality construction from the 60s, marked as architecturally valuable in the city’s master plan. Pihlajamäki is characterized by its spacious and nature-oriented environment, with forests and rocks around, and large yards. The high-rise tower blocks serve as landmarks and are divided into three groups of five buildings each. It’s also notable for its lamella houses, such as the one at Liusketie 6, which has 18 staircases. The area has natural boundaries on all sides, making it distinct within the Northeastern part of Helsinki.
