A hike from Glenridding, through the Hole in the Wall, along Striding Edge to Helvellyn. Chilly, but a lovely day for it.

I watched this with tears in my eyes, remembering what I used to do walking over those edges. Now an old man with bad knees and all sorts of problems which come with being 80 all I have is memory’s Watching your video brought a few moments back reminding me how I love that place, keep it up very good some people do this as you have for recharging many memories DJ

Really pleased you enjoyed it so much Dan. It’s a truly incredible location and I love it when my videos inspire someone to go and check it out for themselves, or in your case relive experiences from the past! The current tyrannical takeover will soon try to remove access to places like this from the general public….so enjoy it while it lasts!

Wonderful video, takes me back to last year - I couldn't capture the sheer awesomeness of it with my video though, you've done a great job - the scale and perspective of Striding Edge captured perfectly!

Bolton Web Design thank you! It’s a great spot for sure. Check out my Snowdon (via Crib Goch) and Tryfan videos if you enjoyed this one. Will give you some inspiration if you haven’t climbed them already 👍

Amazing video, thanks. It looks so 'exciting' that it makes me wonder if I really walked it twice when I was younger, but I know I did!

Just got home after my first attempt - turned back as I had no idea how to proceed in the thick fog. Glad I did as there are a couple of nadgery bits there! Came to RU-vid to see if I could find the bit that had me stumped - I think your Mrs sold me some blister plasters this morning - small world! Great vid - take care.

Thanks Lee. Need to get out and do some more stuff...started a new job and it’s monopolising my time a bit. But on the plus side picked up a GoPro fusion, so a new toy to play with on the next project 👍

I'm betwixt and between, Andy. I'm toying with the idea of a 360 camera but also toying with the idea of stopping making films altogether. I used to spend all my free time outdoors and in water, I now spend it filming other people do that. Very unsatisfying.....
@Cruser1068
@Cruser1068 5 лет назад
Aww....you love it really! GoPro have knocked a whopping £180 off the Fusion right now. They must be struggling. But it’s a bargain at £380. Channel 4 use them for most of their 360 stuff.
@Cruser1068
@Cruser1068 5 лет назад
The crazy thing is they’re running a competing promotion where you can trade in any old, even broken, digital camera to get £100 off the list price of a fusion.....or you can not bother with that and just order one straight and save £180 😂😂 Which option do you think I chose 🤔

Beautiful video! I attempted Helvellyn a few days ago but decided to abort the mission before the ridge due to bad weather. I hope to return next summer. Ps. You two make it look like it's a piece of cake :P

Thank you! I guess it’s just about perspective. The more of this stuff you do the less intimidating it becomes. I have a hard drive full of material to edit from our Summer French tour when I find the time. There are some moments in there that pushed our limits...as Janie would definitely agree 😂

Can I ask about the puffer type jacket your wife/partner was wearing? Didn't it make her sweat? I wore one going up Yewbarrow, Wasdale,and I was astounded to find I was soaked,seemed to retain all moisture...?
@Cruser1068
@Cruser1068 2 года назад
Hi Alan, no, it’s synthetic, all polyester, she wears it on every trek we go on unless it’s pouring with rain. She finds it really comfortable and not sweaty! Personally, I do sweat easily and reserve these types of jackets for camp or carry one to slip on if we stop and it’s chilly. Maybe it’s a man thing!

Thank you! In this uncertain climate the world is in, trust me when I say DON'T PUT OFF TILL TOMORROW WHAT YOU CAN DO TODAY!!! Our freedom is being threatened like no other time in history, next year there may not be the option to do this kind of stuff. Striding edge itself is maybe half an hour or so, provided there aren't groups of nervous people bottlenecking the small downclimb, that might hold you up a bit depending how busy it is.

@@Cruser1068 true true true about lack of freedom and restrictions... I am usually a hiker every weekend in the Yorkshire dales.. Lockdown sent me crazy missing the beautiful scenery peace and quiet of the countryside... As for striding edge... I'll have to keep checking the weather I want to do it in a nice calm sunny day.. As I'm a little scared of heights so I'll probably be one of the slow ones.. I want to come down swirral edge... Thanks again for your help... Best regards and stay safe.....

Hi mate. I really fancy doing this walk. As a bit of a beginner, striding edge is putting me off. Any tips?
@Cruser1068
@Cruser1068 3 года назад
You really dont need to be....as aretes go its really not hard. Just pick a day when the weather is fine (suggest Spring/Summer), ideally a day when its not too busy, start early so you have plenty of time and you'll be fine. It's nothing like as exposed as Crib Goch for example.

@@Cruser1068 cheers pal. Any more advice will be appreciated. Was looking at end of April at the earliest
@Cruser1068

@@S.Hitchcock not sure what else to tell you really other than the obvious: wear appropriate footwear/clothing, check forecast and carry extra kit in case weather goes against what you expect. Go with someone else ideally, especially if they have more experience than you. But it really isn't a hard route I assure you. Even in snowy/icy conditions it's not a massive tech challenge provided your dressed right. Just take your time and enjoy the stunning views. I walked right on the top of striding edge whilst filming, it's not that scary up there but if you have an issue with heights there is another track just a few feet off the top that will feel less exposed, you can see what I'm talking about in the video hopefully.

@@Cruser1068 While I agree Andy, Striding & Swirrel Edge have proven to be fatal in icy & snow conditions & the upmost respect must be given. I've also known many people that have become that frightened that they've froze & been unable to continue or retrace without experienced assistance.

@Cruser1068
@Cruser1068 5 лет назад
Eliza Kulesza any mountain can be dangerous depending on lots of factors, weather, how you’re kitted out, experience, etc. But relatively speaking I would say this was fairly tame. Crib Goch, a similar sort of route, is way more exposed and the chances of messing up higher. Go in good weather if you can and you’ll have a great time.

Hi Mike, it is circular, starts at the Glenridding Campsite at the southern tip of Ullswater and you go up through the Hole in the Wall along Striding Edge over the top of Helvellyn and back down Swirral Edge. Great day out.
