Awww, I love that one. The Plaza is one of my favorites. The forwardlook style, in combination of less chrome. I love these pure budget fullsize hookers of the late fifties! 😍
She is a Beauty Randy!! Congrats my friend!! I've sold my Plaza Business Coupe because I've found and bought my 57 Belvedere 2 Door Hardtop!! But you have a very rare and unique car and that Hemi sounds great!
They looked great due to Virgil Exner's styling but their build quality was way below the competition and they rusted out very quickly due to their design and lack of rustproofing.
You're cool in my book man. If only there were more younger guys out there picking up this hobby we could save a lot more of these cars. And of course me and the 60s and 70s too
Ooooommmmaannnn!!! I hope You still have this amazing car!!!! Wow what a dream that would be to own such a rare car like that and all blacked out!!! And you guys did exactly what I would have put the 331 hemi in it with a 4 speed omg that car is what I dream about all day and exactly why I love the classics they had style, class and sound like nothing else out there sorry I can't stop drooling over your car congratulations on such a great restoration, what a rare bird you guys did such an amazing job!!!!!
If you kiss 2nd gear first before you try to put it in 1st gear the shifter will just slide right into 1st. You don't have to push or force it as hard.
Had a 1957 Plymouth suburban my sophomore year in high school. It was old and rusty, BUT it had a 318 Highway Patrol police interceptor engine. Surprised a lot of 'vettes with that car.
Thanks for the tour and drive. Nice to see handsome young blood. Get tired of the typical “older” hosts of car vids, but not the cars. I’m older too. 💁🏼♂️
Hi great video, that Plymouth is quite rare, nice to see. May be one day you could do a video of the 57 Firesweep in the garage. Great stuff keep up the good work.
My dad drove one of the business coupes his last few years of work for Humble Oil & Refining in SE Texas. The one he had was dark blue metallic paint and had 3-speed xmission on the column. The engine was the 318 poly. I used to occasionally go with him to work (oil field tank gauging). I remember the car having good acceleration and a smooth level ride. Good work on getting this one together. Its is time to enjoy it!
Well done❗️Very cool👍🔥 Would have loved to hear the duals open up!! Curious as to your mileage just cruising around ❓Sounds like highway gears in the rear.
Check out Dylan McCools channel on here, he's redoing a '58 like this, going from a flathead six to a LA 318 and added Fifth Avenue discs and an 8 3/4 rear axle, told him his would look like good painted like yours.
Like when you just turned that corner. If you tag second and then went to First it slows the synchros down and it'll slide into first gear so much easier so you don't have to push so hard. Just passing on some knowledge that was passed on to me.
This is a really great car! The accuracy and provenance of this build are rare today. An actual business coupe. Everyone nowdays with a two door advertises as a business coupe because it sounds cool to spew those words - I am quick to correct the spewers in the cause of accuracy for future generations. Just a thought from and old manual shift, muscle car driver. Your habit of rolling in neutral should stop. Your car should ALWAYS be in the appropriate gear, clutch engaged. Thank you for posting this.
Just watched a few of your videos and subscribed, man you've got some interesting stuff! Pretty awesome how much forward look stuff is still surviving in the states. I just picked up a rust free barnfind 1961 Windsor up here in Canada, Cheers! You should check out Coldwarmotors on youtube to see their 1960 Fury resto if you haven't already.
My question is will a poly 318 from a 65 Coronet drop in and work with my factory L6 3.8L powerflite trans? Looking to do a dual quad setup which should give me about 300hp. Just trying to figure out the parts list to make it all work together. Subscribed! I just bought one of these in red and white that was restored, and then parked for over 20 years. Got her running and driving in a few days, now looking for that v8 sound.
With the right adapter it would be fine. It won’t directly bolt up though, the LA 318 is different than the ‘57-‘61 318. Personally I would upgrade to a torque flite, maybe even a later aluminum one that would have originally bolted to that engine. A three speed auto would be better in modern driving as well. With a powerflite you are sitting at 4000 RPM at 60.
In our ‘57 DeSoto with a torqueflite you can cruise along the highway at 60 at about 2800 RPM, the kickdown for passing is great too. When a power flite kicks down to pass you feel like you are driving through molasses and the engine feels bogged down.
Forgotten fins , I am in the market for a 58 plaza to build something similar to the one you've built how much should I look to spend for a nice body and frame.
@@oldieznut1 The 65 didn't use the LA version of the 318, so his Powerflite should bolt up fine. Top gear is the same 1:1 in both transmissions. The Torqueflite has a better first gear.
I love FL strippers. Tastefully modded to preserve the outward looks and feel of the most base car Plymouth offered. I really like that all the driveline mods are pretty much period correct, give it take a few years.
Great example of a forgotten body style. Was this business coupe shorter than the other Plymouths for '57? Would love to see one on a '59 Dodge, my favorite Exner design. Thanks! 👍
What cam did you stick in it? Head work? I saw a couple old MoPar wagons ('59 Plym and a Dodge, I think) sitting along 301 south of Waldo, I think....east side of the road by a barn.
I've got almost identical unrestored car on my driveway! 58 Belvedere 2dr sedan (no V-8 badges) but sporting a Hemi😃 325cu in 57 Dodge engine! & 2 spd powerflite😟. All bolts stamped DPCD !!!
@@oldieznut1 ahh, they're rough. u can see it in my video's. I have MANY Virgil Exner CARS, among those, 2 58 Plymouth's. One of those two is one of chryslers rarest cars. See if you can solve this, HOTLUMPY is to MoPaR, like SOMEDOLL is to GM.
plymouth had a dodge clone in canada, built on the same plymouth body, same plymouth interior and same tailights, both built in windsor, ont. the the plaza, at dodge in canada was called the crusader, the savoy, regent, belvedere, mayfair, dodge exported the kingsway rhd to india and other rhd countries.
I have never had it on a dyno. I would guesstimate about 400 given similarly equipped dual-quad 331's, how much of it makes it to the ground, im not sure. It does well keeping up with modern cars and 60 comes in the 6-7 second range, which I am happy with. Best, Randy
Cam i ask a question? The front doors are the same size as the normal plazas 4 doors i mean the plaza 4 doors use the same front doors in front as this one?
I would be going crazy with out a radio . I need my tunes when I drive my car I was wondering have you thought about tinting the windows on the car I was wondering do you run regular (87) or( 93 ) fuel in the car.
