@@threedeucesfab9221 no problem, I have a 1950 hudson im have a engine swap issue. Not that I don't like chevy but everyone does a sbc or ls ive done both, im on the fence with a 5.7 hemi, vq35de infiniti, bmw m62, or even a dodge 4.7, awweee the choices lol
just make sure to not leave your hemi in drive while at stop lights and traffic jams . leave it in neutral . new generation hemi have oiling issues with long periods of low oil pressure when being gear and no moving. Add a can of BG oil RF-7 . it goes through the oiling system in the car and coats the moving metal with a super slick coating that stays on the parts with out clogging the filter or oiling system
Amazing build. I've watched all of your videos several times now. I have an 85 RC 318/727/4x4 that I'm looking to do a Hemi swap in. I've been going back and forth on just engine swap vs. the entire drivetrain from a 3rd or 4th gen Ram. I know it would be much better on the highway with a newer trans with more gears and overdrive, but it would be way more work (and money) and most likely involve messing with the axles as well. Any plans on getting to Baker's this year? I'd love to see your RC in person. I'm up in Hartland, only about 20 minutes from Milford.
That's a sweet build, but Duralast battery? All that $, she deserves a green top Interstate, or even a yellow or red top Optima. But other than that, my jaw is dropped at the beauty and immaculate shape and freshness of this build. Love it.
Out of all the swap videos on Gen III Hemis, yours is by far the best! I’m swapping a 2015 Challenger R/T 5.7 8-speed into a ‘56 T-Bird. Lots of your info crosses over to all swaps. My only question: why not use a factory harness and related components like throttle pedal, shifter etc? Would that be easier and retain more functions (fan, a/c, etc)?
Thank you for the compliment. I did not have the donor car and also the wiring can be a nightmare. The crate kit uses about 6 wires to connect and you are up and running. As far as the fan if i chose to use a conventional fan and not a PWM (pulse width modified) fan the crate kit runs that too. The crate kit supplies the pedal and as far as shifter the center console stick shifter from a challenger would be hard to implement into my interior.
@@threedeucesfab9221 thanks, I have the ENTIRE Challenger harness, ECUs and fuse block. I’m going to try to install the Challenger fuel pump in the T-Bird tank too. I want this Hemi to think it’s still in the 2015 Challenger. Trying to do this by only purchasing a rear sump pan kit - we’ll see if that’s possible.
So proud of you and your wonderful work! Glad these 1st Gen`s are getting some HEMI love! Too much GM out there. I gotta 1990 D150 with a 3.9 V6 that I plan swapping soon! May I ask what motor your Ramcharger have originally?
I see you will be at MOParty 2023, any chance you will be at MOPARS by the LAke in Cullman or Music City MOPAR Show? I don't know where you are located but these are both pretty good MOPAR shows and I was just hoping to see your truck. I plan to be at MOParty so if you don't make the others hopefully I'll see it there. Nice build.
@@threedeucesfab9221 MOPARS by the Lake has been getting smaller over the last couple years. Not sure why, just after COVID openned up it was booming. Anyway, I'll look for you at MOParty, I will be there. When you meet DC, you'll know it's me. I have a couple cars I'm thinking maybe the 8HP. I wasn't too interested till I saw the cost for a low milage one at the bone yard. They are cheap enough you would never have one built. Generally when parts are cheap it is because they don't tear up so it is a good sign.
Awesome build!! Did you have to take it to a dealer to perform the "pedal learn" as stated in the instructions for the mopar creat kit? I'm currently doing a build with the 6.4 8hp70. Thank you!
Hey man great video! I'm working on a 5.7 swap in my 91 d150. I'm in auburn hills Michigan and I would like to ask you a few questions if you don't mind.
Thanks for uploading your video. I saw you post a link in the FB group 'Dodge truck Hemi swap' and followed from there. I do have a question, and that is: you said you used the Holley engine mounts but then stated Bouchillon. Im led to believe that the Holley sets the entire engine 1.5" forward for firewall and booster clearance, and that Bouchillon does the canted block mount. Thoughts?
If you listen again you will hear me say that the Holley mounts move the engine 1.5 ahead but i am using Bouchillian mounts which put the engine in close to the original location. I think you missed interpreted that. 10:20 in the video starts that discussion.
I used Bouchillon mounts. Worked great. I had the front clip off so the engine slid right in. I didn't need to loosen the brake booster or anything like that. Coil/valve cover fits right under no problem. I'm running a 727 and had to weld on about a 1.5" extension on the trans mount because everything sits forward about 1.5".
Beautiful truck!! I’m hemi swapping a 85 D150 with a carb setup and I had a problem fitting that one coil pack under the booster too lmao I got some custom motor mounts though
Very informative video! Thank you!. Kind of off topic considering this in am 84 and two wheel drive lol but you seem very knowledgeable about the 5.7 swap and ramchargers/dodge. I'm going to start work on 74 ramcharger 4x4 but not sure what axle and transmission set up would be possible. I seem to find a lot of different information. Any suggestions? It would be with a ram1500 5.7 most likely. Thanks in advance!!
I have a hemi swapped 1976 W200. I have a dana44 front and Dana 60 rear with a np205 divorced transfer case. And a 2WD 8hp70 transmission. Works great. I’d recommend trying to use a manual trans or mechanical transmission. The 8 speed was a pain in the butt to figure out.
Well done, It looks like a clean install and well presented. How did the transmission mount , did you have to do a lot of cutting and/or fabrication? I got sent here from forabodiesonly.com. Thanks!
Haven’t figured it out yet ....my challenger gets about 20 on the highway with same engine. The Ramcharger doesn’t have MDS though which allows it to run on 4 cylinders like my challenger does.
I wouldn't ever use that motor ever again. Because everyone we've had always loss a quart of oil every thousand miles . It didn't leak or smoke even are new one did it also. So I'm going old school it's better and easier to fix if it has a problem and you could have used a one ton brake booster because it's smaller
No I did not hook up the air conditioning system. The compressor needs ecm signal that the crate engine ecm isn't programed for. I plan on adding a Vintage complete system in the near future removing the huge heat/air box and using their system. The compressor uses normal controls that i can obtain with pressure switches.
I am running a corvette style pressure / filter regulator close to the tank. It reduces pressure and sends the return right back to the tank. It Is like 18" away from my pump outlet in the tank. This was a carbureted vehicle so i added a in the tank fuel pump and new 3/8 single fuel line running forward.
@@threedeucesfab9221 In case you didn't notice that you were saying "pulse width modified". Should be pulse width modulated. Your Ramcharger looks great. I need to clean up the wiring in my 85 D150 hemi swap to look like yours. Very nice.
