I’ve been LOVING this song recently, it’s been one of my top listened since it came out, I really can’t get enough of it. One of my fav parts is that the main line of the song “you say I want to be your girlfriend” is so simple but can be interpretted in a lot of different ways. Is the “you” saying this in an accusatory way, claiming that “I” want to be their girlfriend? Are they claiming they want to be my girlfriend? The choice of using “You” and “I” is really cool because Hemlocke could have chosen to say “You say you want to be my girlfriend” or “you say you want me as your girlfriend” or something like that, but they didn’t. I don’t know if it was intentional, but I think regardless, they chose to write it in a way I really love and makes it really unique.
