I'm continuously astonished at your ability to seemingly 'Read My Mind' when it comes to lesson content. Most excellent. I believe no one covers the classics as well. Very much appreciated.
Definitely nailed it Sped! Thanks, as an intermediate player this was the lesson I really needed. Most are either too slow and detailed, or fly through and I seem to miss some of the intricate parts. Top man 👌
When I'm working through a solo or riff, I try to provide everything you might need. I also include any additional information that I think is useful or perhaps underrepresented in online lesson videos. Although it might seem like I'm rambling at times, I believe it's important information. 😂
You nailed it. A couple days ago I was thinking to myself nobody really plays it like the album. Then here you are doing it like the album. Also.. I want to see a run down of your stratocaster, like you did the 98’ les Paul. The best year.
Just love this guy and I truly appreciate all the videos, lessons, etc. Been on a fuzz journey and just got a couple of Univibes and a Harmonious Monk II. Man talk about a whole new well of inspiration. Diving in to Jimi Hendrix’s and Robin Trower’s songs. @Sped have you messed with any of those type modulation effects? Have any tips? Good luck with the new band and I hope you sell out all the dates!
I never had a univbe. That's awesome! Have fun.😊 Had a lot of different choruses, flangers, and etc, though. You'll find what you like by just playing with them. Set the speed faster for more shimmer, and slower for a longer sweep. Set the speed a little off kilter of the rhythm if the wave seems buried in the mix. But then you might want that. Your ear is the best guide.
I've had a fair few mod pedals over the years. Started with a Super Chorus back in the day, still rate that highly. Have had a Univibe, a Visual Sounds Liquid Chorus, an Electric Mistress etc. The mistress can be heard when I play my Ten Years Gone solo in the lesson. I let it go not too long ago as I wasn't using it. I pretty much have every pedal known to man in my Fractal. Spoilt.
Abraham Maslow once said that "when your only tool is a hammer, the whole world looks like a nail" You are a hammer sir. Its only fitting that your hard work results in constantly nailing it. In any case... You are definately way better at the guitar than Maslow.
He definitely had a better moustache though. 😂 And thank you, I really appreciate that. I'll be quoting that over dinner with Gab in the week like I've known it all my life. Can't wait to see her face.
Dear Sped I have been a fan of you and your channel since I watched your tutorial on Bigmouth strikes again by The Smiths a band I love and saw in 86, but at the top of my most favorite artists of all time is the magical Jimi Hendrix Well Done. I wanted to let you know that your lessons, personally and sense of humor have made you a must watch for me and I look forward to your new videos. I also do appreciate the FREE lessons for the simple reason I don't have a lot of cash, don't pay any attention to the haters they have enough problems as is. If Bxrrell ever makes it to Canada I hope to see you guys
A lot of love for this comment, thanks so much! Always makes me smile reading about people who find genuine value in the content I put out. It's my pleasure. Canada is definitely on the hit list for me. 🍁
Nice job señor spedding. Been learning stuff from you for about two years and this is my first comment. I really enjoy your videos. You’re a funny man. Seeing all the work you put into this makes me wonder how Stevie Ray Vaughan went about learning it before recording it. I’m sure he played it hundreds if not, thousands of times live(I saw him in 1985 at the Delmar fair in San Diego California when I was in the Navy). Anyway, thank you for what you do. Hope your channel keeps growing. You deserve it.
Great job my friend. Being 65 I've loved Hendrix since I discovered him through some older friends of mine way back in the day. Your phrasing is spot on. Love the new Burrell song & video. Kind of figured that was Gab. Have a lot going on so I haven't been commenting much lately. As always best to you & Gab. You guys are great lovely couple. To bad because of cost won't be seeing Burrell in the states....would be nice though.
By the way, you are responsible for bringing me a long way towards where I personally want to be on guitar. Will never be all the way there so please keep up the lessons. My sincere thanks.
I was one of those silly people who played 12 hours a day on average through my 20's. After playing for 4 decades I can say never being "all the way there" is actually the best part. There is always something new, more to explore, and more to get excited about. I used to transcribe violin solos for electric guitar; Vivladi, Bach, Paganini, etc, back in the 80's and 90's, and still I'm learning more about music now than ever. 😊
Thanks for getting inside hendrix's head and figuring out his Embellishments. It sure sounds like Hendricks to me. You get way more treble out of your front pickup than I do! I'll give it a go
😂😂😂 the idea of a ghost in this old house always disturbed me. But if it was the ghost of Hendrix I could get used to that… Imagine if he could dial in my settings for me whilst I’m playing!
Whomever it might’ve been mocking your lessons is either simply jealous or just stuck on stupid! 🤣 Maybe I’m just biased here but I think your lessons are right up there with the very best man. I wish I had a music teacher half as good as you waaaaaaaaaay back when I was a teenager because I certainly wouldn’t have given up on guitar 🤙
I actually think it was a nice comment overall to be fair they were just saying it's not their style. I'm just using it as ammo for comedy here. Appreciate you Tommy, thanks for watching as always! 💪🏻 And you're back in business now, got my eye on you so no more quittin'.
You'll enjoy overwriting your save file with this lesson Mark! I actually think the more we do that the better we get at it too. Growing in ability and versatility; it's great to be able to change the way you do something at the drop of a hat. Especially in a band scenario.
Outstanding (but what's new).Just as a pointless aside I love studying the differences between Jimi & SRV's versions to this perfect intro...notes & rhythmically different...but what do I know...keep up the superb FREE material.
Well yes you nailed it!! Live in the USA so doubt that I could attend your show. I’m quite sure you will nail it as well. Will it be posted on UTube? Thoughts are with you!!
Doublestop, doublestop, toil and trouble. (I'm giving you that title change in exchange for the great lesson.) Great analogy on studying the greats as a learning (and enjoying) tool, rather than an act of mimicry. If you're gonna learn how to play the literary changes and outline the narrative chord tones, you're not gonna make it up on your own or, god forbid, look to Dan Brown. And if you have to start somewhere, why not at the top?
I like that a lot. Yeah, see these lessons as studying our favourite moments within iconic tunes in detail so we can apply that to our own playing going forward.
Absolutely brilliantly explained as always You 💯 NAILED it 🎸👌👌👌👏👏👏👏 Love TATTOO. Amazing moving song and video so YES you NAILED that too👌👌 See you at Brighton and Southampton 💯🤘 Tissues at the ready🥲 And lining them drinks up at the Bar 🍻 no probs And Can I have your pick 🙏😁😎
Hi Sped. I've listened to this song since it was released. There was one part where I though you might be a little off, but I went and listened again and it was me that was off! Anyway, ignore the trolls, your content is awesome and delivery (subtle humor) brings me joy. We could use another British Invasion here in the states. ( I hope you can play here in California some day.) Cheers!
Ouh that's interesting! And I honestly don't mind people sharing their honest opinions about ways to play things etc. I actually think a video like "I was wrong." or "You helped me play this even better." would go down really well! Which bit did you think was off that you've changed?
@@SpedSpedding at 21:30 when you hit the G chord, I held it longer on the 2nd strum. like you played A,G,G,F chords 1/4,1/8,1/8,1/4 and I played 1/4,1/8,1/4/1/8 (1/4) means quarter note. In other words the timing of A slide down to G, is the same as the timing of G slide down to F. Hope that makes sense.
Very good lesson..you are appreciated with what you are doing 🫡..is your song writing more inspirational when on tour vs being home...? Will there be a video of the goings on during the tour..? Hope to see more of your work with the band and content..you and sophie have interesting thoughts about music...👍🎸❣️
This is a great tutorial. You observed some things that I missed that I’m going to correct. Thanks! One important aspect you failed to mention is when Hendrix switches between straight and swung rhythmic feel. A lot of people swing the whole intro bc SRV did, but Hendrix alternates between a straight and swung feel through the first few chords. Clarifying that really gives it that special Hendrix sauce. A lot of players add rotary throughout the entire intro. I think the rotary kicks in on the G, F, C, D near the end of the intro. According to “The Great British Recording Studios” book it was a home made rotary cab made by Keith Grant, one of the engineers at Olympic Studios. It had an 8” speaker in it.
I’ve been going through that in my lesson and it’s annotated on the tab as best as can be. Guitar Pro only lets you do it bar by bar and the feel switches up mid bar on occasion. Glad you liked the lesson.
That was damn good....but I've seen a thousand attempts and no one yet has "nailed" it....heck, I doubt Jimi could have repeated it exactly after that one take he kept. Some magic only happens once. But yer damn close!
@SpedSpedding You're an AMAZING guitarist and we seriously do appreciate the lesson! I've worked on this for years and still picked up a little more from you...thank you!
Free tix! Yes! I saw the "Tattoo" video, brilliant, but I was surprised, it was ... "unlike" I thought you'd be (as a director). Bravo 🎉🎸🥂 Your guitar vids are informative & humorous (times 10)!
Kind of. I have this plugin called CLA guitar which I sometimes put on after. I just used the fader with “stereo” on it to kind of force the guitar’s width.
I was full volume here on the neck and I tweaked the settings on the pedals and amp a bit plus the para EQ. I might make a follow up video on it. I think I only had a compressor running in the front of the amp. Might have been a 59 bassman.
Nice! Just googled now as I wasn't familiar. I don't think I've ever heard this song. Listening... feel like I'm listening to a Sgt. Pepper's track haha.
@@SpedSpedding while i have your ear .. the other good one on that album is 'Always on the Run'.. but, Please check: the greatest guitar solo in the history of music -prince .. fiso place - birelli lagrane let me see you try some Angus?
Hi Sped, don't let a couple actually one comment get to you because that person has no idea what's involved in getting a masterpiece redone by yourself and probably feels worse now for saying it, I would. Great lesson and I wish you all the luck in your life and new adventure. Peace 🕊️.
Yep awesome buddy, Hey question I have a Fender strat that I bought in 1988 awesome guitar, I'm getting ready to purchase another guitar Gibson SG or an Ibanez which would you choose?
@@SpedSpedding Ya I'm going the SG route 🤪 😎 It's very nice he changed out the original humbuckers and installed Dimarzio's, His guitar brand new costs 2 grand. I have you on Instagram I think, I'll send you a picture of it.
I'm going to buy a ticket. And I'm going to bring a mate. And I'm going to have a really good time.... And you're going to send me the 1st class return air tickets from Tasmania. If only! Sorry I can't make it to any of the gigs, but am hoping you have a great run of sell-out nights. Making videos about schoolgirls!! You must be getting old, mate 😜 Nice job actually, time spent at Wood Norton is never wasted and Gab was especially convincing. Did you wear grey shorts for the wrap party? Nice song too, we all have a lifetime of those memories. Some of us more than others. I have said that you play Jimmy Page better than Jimmy Page and you definitely nailed this one from Mr Hendrix. I'm planning on building myself a 'Stratocaster' once the current woodworking project is finished and learning this piece would be a great way to showcase the finished beast. Note to Gab: PLEASE don't teach Macbeth in school!! They did that to me 50 years ago in Wilmslow and it took another 25 years before I got over it and learned to love the comedies.
To exist or not? That's a question. Is it better to take it on the chin or fight back, eh? (MacHamlet by Will I Am Wooblestick). Good enough, I reckon.
Nailed it - and getting away with it by the cheap trick of being bloody good. Anyway, I now have to spend inordinate amounts of time trying to replicate this, one of my earliest guitar loves, Little Wing. Which, given I’m rubbish, is a tall order. But your fault for inspiring enthusiastic if over-ambitious effort…. Now is the winter of discontent… sorry, wrong play.
Haha, you know what though. You've got everything you need right here to master it. It's just time. Pace yourself and move through in the same length sections that I teach it and you WILL master it. Promise.
Your tone was too aggressive. Listen to the live version off Hendrix In The West. You need it sweet so when you lift the volume knob for the solo, then the tone intensifies with emotion...
@@SpedSpedding well I reckon you could do the sweeter version and you have the skill to record it decent for ewetube. Stop faffin' 'bout lad and impress us old school boys...
@@SpedSpedding : If I was going to nitpick you, I'd at least do it, not try to make myself look silly. I think you nailed all but the way he laid back on the rhythm here and there. Have a tokie, then try not to forget what you're doing and it should be perfect. Seriously though, I'd say you nail it better than I, and I'm no slouch either. It's so impressive how you're often likely closer than the original artist could copy it.
