It's not just the fact that Henk sang it with distortion for Floor, he learned a completely new way of singing, just so he could sing this way for her. That's commitment, and it's shows the level of respect he has for her.

Thank you for doing the longer version of this with the conversations and subtitles. So many others only do the short version with just the song. You miss so much by doing that. The strength of this show is that they start of as relative strangers, sharing their profession and their love of singing. And at the end they are friends and almost family even. You can never "act" that, and as a viewer you feel that. Love seeing your comments!!

Henk is amazing, and you captured that with your reaction. He is really a pure operatic singer, and only really sings musical theatre and operetta because there is not enough pure opera work available. When he went through the conservatoire, they kicked him out a year early because "we have nothing left to teach you". So this was WAY out of his comfort zone, using distortion is something he never did in his life until this, and he learned the technique especially for Floor. His range is massive - he is actually a baritone, and can reach down into the less extreme depths of bass and right up into the tenor range, even singing tenor parts, as there are more tenor parts to sing!. It's a shame that so few solo parts are available for deeper voices. I'm a bass (and therefore, suffer even more from that), so only have a little overlap with his range at my upper end and his lower - so the start was merely comfortable by my standards (but then I can sing off the bottom range of any instrument barring a few of the largest pipe organs - I'm not kidding, I can shake walls and floors fairly easily [a BBC recording engineer joked that he should have used a seismograph for my voice instead of a normal microphone - although they did find one that had enough low range response], and find even higher bass notes challenging). So he was right up in his DIScomfort zone in the tenor range for most of this! And he is a really pleasant person, too, as seen by the way in which the whole group regarded him as "Uncle Henk" throughout the whole series. I've borrowed his description "Good music is good music" a few times, as he doesn't seem in any way affected by the "opera snobbery" that tends to infect that style of singer, and the fans of it. The fact that he set the condition on his performance with Floor of "Phantom" as performing it with Nightwish is a great demonstration of how open he is to other genres. When it finally happens, I really hope it is recorded properly with a professional crew, as the number of people who would love to be there would fill several large stadia!

Yep, Henk became my favorite too and if Floor would't have been on this show I probably would never have heard about him. He is such an amazing, warm and easy-going man. - Please react to his country song "Your Man". The others can not stop smiling throughout the song. And of course that "Vivo per lei" with Emma, wow. You are one of the few who really get it, you are a lovely person who oozes the love for music, sharing it with all of us in these dire times. Henk truely is a kind and gentle man, after his solo show Hero's, he lifted my mum on a stool and hugged her, she had a smile from ear to ear, radiating, looking 20 years younger than 84. She was a total fangirl like Floor ;-). Seeing her so happy made me love Henk even more, I am forever grateful for all he has given and is giving. I'll never forget his loving heart which he shared in a hug and the look in his eyes who see right through you. Thank you for your sharing and invoking these sweet memories. Tomorrow I'll look at the photo's with her to make her feel that happiness and smile again

A couple of things: Henk is a famous European opera singer, yet he is nervous singing for Floor. That tells us something. When Emma and Henk sang a duet, that was a RU-vidr singing with a pro opera singer, yet he gave her the utmost respect and an equal footing on stage. Very few would do that.

One of the best covers in the world ever! Floor interviewed Henk this fall. Henk said that every year he goes to his former singing school where his voice is checked, an annual inspection ... Like if you use your car for annual maintenance, Henk does it for his singing voice!

Henk, sitting on a stool like a zen master and singing - vocal coaches have mentioned that it's not easy to perform any song that way, but he's a master who dares to step out of his own cosy bubble (including distortion), 'cause of respect that has grown during show recordings... And Floors eyes sparkle when she listens her hero...

Floor was walking on clouds for a month after that, that happy was she with that present Uncle Henk gave her. And i was waiting for this one because of obvious reasons hehehe, told ya you'd love this one ;) Henk is a vocal powerhouse just like Floor is and he certainly was another standout for that season, heck that entire season was high quality and good stories, very enjoyable to watch and listen too. Floor and Henk became pretty close friends during the show, and they both guests each others shows afterwards - and Henk is going to be a guest star on the 2 Nightwish shows in the Netherlands, performing Phantom of the Opera - abd maybe more!! On Floor's 10 solo shows after the TV-SHOW, Henk and Floor are doing different songs together - Henk really enjoys singing metal, as long as it is good music, and he can learn new stuff. Sean, apart from the reaction suggested below, you should do "Vincent" as performed by Henk as well. It is the Dutch version, but the translation is the purest poetry, more than outstanding, and the way you felt "Is Dit Nou Later", you'd have no problems following it at all :). I've lived in cities about 12 years, and it was fun. Now I reside about the same environment than Floor. And it's nice to an elderly statesman that I am. There are pros and cons to both. Henk's performance there was an excellent one, but when he switched to distortion, his head turned too red 😠😵. It was not his thing at all as a classically trained singer.

He is not singing the metal version of Sound of Silence,he created the opera-version.

Uncle Henk. A huge star, but stayed so normal. And Floor is the same. Like true Dutchies too down to earth to slip into arrogance. Dutch people don't like the fake people who act high and mighty and show off. We're all just human. Everybody farts. lol
