if someone wants to know, In a love hotel, outside they usually have the pricing shown by hours. If you go to agoda/booking, if there is no window in the picture there is a chance that it is a love hotel, that or the furniture is ... unique (think, bed with a big heart shape, sofa with colors, view to the bathroom from the bed or "strategicaly placed mirrors") it's not the case for all of them, if you see one sign, it's worth looking for. Also from the outside, if the entrance is a little bit "hidden" by a wall place just in front of the entrance (which makes you enter/leave from the side) probably a LH too. From the inside, if the reception's structure purposedly hide the face of the receptionist, yeah, not a classic hotel. As for the rentals, they are sometimes free, sometimes you got to pay for them. wouldn't expect much quality though.
It's def true tho, love hotels are often way nicer and cheaper than regular hotels. Had one with a huge bed and a jacuzzi bath, compared to a lot of regular hotels in japan that were tiny and cramped for the same price. If you're just staying for a night somewhere, definitely worth.
Yeah they only downside is that they're usually in "rough areas", but the rough areas of Japanese cities are as safe as the nicest areas of any major western city so it's really not a big deal.
True I stayed in a love hotel a few years ago during a holiday in japan. The only thing that was weird were these big Massage tools on both sides next to the bed and the tv in the bathroom literally only showed ... Java Script
If I ever stay in a love hotel in Japan the first thing I'm doing is connecting my PS2 to the TV so I have non-horni entertainment available easily and in a language I know.
