i believe that henri nouwen will be known in history as one of the greatest spiritual guides of the 20th century. he was able to explain well not only in words but above all through his actions that our woundedness and brokenness are not hindrances to sanctity but rather means in order to attain it. our being children of God doesn't reside on what we do but on who we are. nouwen helped us to understand that to be holy doesn't reside so much on what we do for God but on what God does for us. sanctity is allowing God to love us despite and in spite of who we are.
Yes Henri, we all need to know who and what we really are. It is the little self (ego/persona) that is the cause of all our suffering; this little self needs to be seen through once and for all. Consider the lillies.................
