She always was so elegant and graceful...but in those days there were many excellent gymnasts. She was one of my favourite.

I'm Hungarian. an athlete from USA or France with the same routine would be all time winner. Hungary is a small country with not much political power left

As an American who loves women's gymnastics, (real female women, not otherwise), Onodi is what I consider Fierce Foreign Competition & one of my favorites

Should've won gold in '92. She's, IMO, the true floor champion.

Just loved this last routine when she ended with a full in back out piked…..what an incredible routine. I saw her live then I competed in Hungary after she retired. She was my hero

Did you see her after 1992 or after 1996? Just curious because she took time off before going to Atlanta!

Never heard of her until now. I like how she landed directly on the beat of the music after her tumbles at the end. This was at 8:53. When the caption stated “In case you missed it…” and showed it in the end, I was like, “That’s the same thing I said!”😊

Oh she’s a true legend! (And she almost won two golds in Barcelona!) There was something magical about that floor routine, the way she landed on beat with the music. Interestingly enough, her timing wasn’t the same in team or event finals, but that ‘finale’ stick oh so satisfying!

Also, she was a queen at compulsories. She was powerful with her tumbling yet also displayed amazing artistic sensibility. She’s one of the faves of the sport!

Beautiful gymnastics and beautiful face 😍 wow. Also maybe I’m wrong saying it but it seems the European gymnasts were really taught that kind of side step landing in finishing tumbling passes, to not step out of bounds, few Americans I’ve seen do it, they usually bounce out of bounds.
@soledadferrer1325

The lunge was allowed and there was no deduction if done with control. It looked really beautiful.

Well they upped the age requirements for the olympics so the gymnast tend to be older at the higher levels and more - so the high difficulty levels of tricks to meet the new scoring system really favors a bit bigger more muscular type of athletes. They need more POWER than ever.

I’ve said this before, but I’ve noticed today’s gymnasts are so much more muscular and manly, they have taken all the grace out of the sport. Onodi is so incredibly tiny, and she can do an incredible amount of amazing tumbling. So could Gutsu, Galieva, Lysenko, Miller, etc. All TINY. I am in no way trying to shame. It’s just an observation.

seriously, have you ever considered that it's people like you who lead to the massive amount of eating disorders among girls who do gymnastics?
@dylanthepickle6428
@dylanthepickle6428 3 года назад
No. I didn’t say the other girls were fat I just said they were quite a bit more muscular. It’s a fact and gymnastics or another sport like it that being lighter and more flexible and smaller is a big advantage. It’s not necessarily about “looking good.“ It’s about staying at the weight that helps you perform to the best of your potential. These athletes want to do the best they can in their sport.

@@dylanthepickle6428 actually you need more muscle to perform the tougher tricks the gymnasts are doing today, the old gymnasts were skinny because they were being starved and were on some extreme diets , why is being slender more “ feminine “ and having muscle “ masculine “ literally every human being has muscle, why are men the only ones aloud to showcase theirs?
@richardkovacs2006
@richardkovacs2006 3 года назад
@@nolanlee2543 back then, when USSR/Russia dominated gymnastics, gymnasts were chosen out of people, who could perform as ballerinas, just wasn't considered to be a leadining one. They were tiny, slim, however strong and powerful, as ballerinas have to be. Russian ballerunas are NEVER muscular. In fact dancers, the leading ones are always more slim than muscular. Russian gymnastics is heavily based on ballett. Their figure has not much to do with "health" (neither is masculine muscles, btw). Some people are just tiny, but powerul by nature. Well at that time people weren't swimming in food, esp not in eastern europe... that helped, too.

Always wondered why she didn’t keep the west side story routine for the Olympics

I agree! But I do like the arrangement of Hungarian Rhapsody that she used in her Olympic routine more than the earlier version. I’d love to find her and ask her the story!

@@worldartgym Hi! Thank you for the video. I never saw the first three footage before. She chose the Hungarian Rhapsody routine, because she felt it fits better the Olympics, where she represented her country. In her dance moves she uses hungarian folklore dance elements. Everybody loved her for it in the country and thought that she truly represented all of us.
