A Railway Series style rewrite of the Series 3 Episode Henry's Forest, with illustrations. Feel free to tip for the content I make here: ko-fi.com/sodo...
You know, if you're looking for other TV candidates to give the same treatment as Henry's forest, I actually did come up with a bit of a theoretical snippit of what The Old Bridge could've been like, if it starred someone more appropriate like Sir Handel. I mentioned it to Usual Bloke Luke in the comments of his Bulldog video, if you want to take a look, as well as some ideas of how it could also utilize Duke's character in the story, too.
What a wonderful adaptation! The writing is amazing, managing to both keep the great story of the TVS episode, while also seamlessly blending it in to the railway series with the characterisation, realism, and focus on a larger cast. The edited illustrations are also great, working quite well with Spong’s style. I also love the style of the video, giving it a genuine feel of the narrations, especially with the engine sound effects, while also being natural as to not sound like an impersonator.
@@sodorislandmodels6332 I have some more Tv series stories in RWS style. Duncan gets spooked and Stephny gets lost. Somebody already did adaptions. But you could do them in book form.
This seems like chris awdry's artstyle, he didn't really show issues with Henry's love for Forests. Wonder what he thinks about Henry's hypokondriac behaviour now, wish there was at least a fan episode to explain this drastic personality shift.
At least Rule Fifty-five wasn't severely broken in this one. Now I'm wondering what your'e own Derek Stories will be like. Or better yet, what year would he arrive on Sodor?
@@sodorislandmodels6332 I'd go for the early seventies. After all, the last two books written by Awdry and the surprise packet were published by those times. Also: ru-vid.com/group/PLGNhdZZJRs5dUDyjctVOdkCZlB5yVrv73
@@sodorislandmodels6332 I think "Double Teething Troubles" would take place in 1965 as Edward is absent and it would take place while he's at the Works after his Exploit.
I love the story of Henry's forest. When I go up to Hopkins Wilderness in Redondo Beach, CA I feel like I'm in the story. Amazing video adaptation too. 🌳🌳🌲🌲
I have no idea what the main issue Awdry have with the episode? Is it the risk of trees near the line catching fire, an engine gaining interest in scenery, or is it the rule 55?
Henry and the forest Many years ago, a section of the mainline was found to be unsafe. Thick, sticky mud would run down the embankement whenever it rained, which made it dangerous for engines to pass, and in the winter there were often landslips which meant the line had to be closed for some time. The Fat Controller took his best engineers to the site, to try and fix the problem. "There's poor drainage here," they said. "If you planted trees, they would firm up the ground and take more water from the soil. That would make the area safe." Henry was sent with a long line of trucks filled with new trees, and with the help of Trevor and Terence, the young trees were hauled into place. *Henry at young forest finished * Now the saplings have fully grown into broad oaks and tall pines, and the ground near the railway line is secure. There is a signal here. Everytime Henry has to stop at it, he likes looking at the wildlife that now lives in the woods. Henry is very proud of the forest he helped create. "come along now, Henry," his driver would say. "I'm sure the passengers like the peace and quiet as much as you, but the signal's dropped and we must clear the line!" *Henry happy at signal with old trees need other track* One night the engines were resting in the shed when the sound of a storm gradually rose outside. Percy was frightened, "what is that strange whistling sound?" he wailed. "don't worry Percy, it's just the wind blowing through holes in the shed" replied Toby. "I've never heard it as loud as this before though", added Thomas. "do you know what," said James, "if Gordon wasn't here now I'd think that was him racing by with the express!" All the engines laughed, except Henry. He was worried about the damage the storm would do. *engines in shed tidy up* The next morning the fierce winds had dropped, so the Fat Controller sent Donald and Douglas out early to patrol the line. They were to check for any fallen trees or damaged telephone wires. Henry's driver walked up to him. "We're to help the Twins with some trees which have fallen on the line," he said, "we must clear the track, I'm afraid it sounds like some damage has been done to the forest near that signal you like" When henry got to the signal he was horrified. Trees lay everywhere and the hillside now looked so bare. "what a shame" cried Henry. *Henry at ruined woods finished * Workmen came with with saws to cut up the fallen trees, which were loaded onto Henry's flatbed by crane. Henry took the wood to the junction where Toby was waiting. "I'm sorry to hear about the forest Henry" , said Toby. "Driver spoke to the foreman in the sawmill, he said they will be able to make some furniture amongst other things with the wood, so at lease it won't be wasted." Henry agreed, but he still felt miserable. *Henry and Toby at knapford finished * After the storm the skies were clear and silent. Toby normally loved peaceful days like this, but he was upset about his friend. When he got to the sawmill, the Fat Controller was there with the foreman. "Good morning Toby, you do look glum! " "yes sir, sorry sir, I'm worried about Henry. He's very sad that the forest he helped build has been destroyed. " We'll soon settle that! " laughed the Fat Controller. *Toby at sawmill finished* There is a fir tree plantation near the Top Station on Thomas' branch line. The fat controller explained that he had bought some new trees to replant the forest. "Please go and collect them Toby, but let's keep it a surprise for Henry, shall we? " "Thank you sir!" beamed toby When Toby got to the plantation, he was delighted to find a row of trucks filled with splendid young trees waiting for him. "these will make sure the line is safe again" said a workman. "and cheer up Henry" thought Toby. *Toby with trucks of trees need to do trees in trucks better * Toby dropped of the trees where the workmen, trevor and Terence promised to plant the trees carefully. The next morning Toby was arranging his morning quarrymen's trainwhen Henry puffed into the junction with a stopping train. "morning Henry! Have you seen it yet?" squeaked Toby. But before Henry could reply Toby's signal dropped and he scurried away. Henry puffed along the line gloomily until he stopped at the signal near the forest. He couldn't believe his eyes! The hillside now looks better than ever before. the land is firm and safe from slipping, the trees are growing strong and tall and the animals are returning. Henry always likes stopping at his signal in the forest. And often his passengers do too. *Henry happy in woods finished*
@@sodorislandmodels6332 I can think of a good one to work with; The world's strongest engine, from series 6. Just replace Diesel with another BR diesel locomotive, that would boast about their heft and strength, like the Class 14 (or Teddy Bear, as they were nicknamed), and would not only try to out-do the other engines, and try to get the Fat Controller to have him as a perminant addition, but also annoy the trucks with his boasting, to where they come up with the plan to do him in with the 20 trucks act.
I think you've misread/heard what the narration said. It says that if Gordon WASN'T here, they'd think it was Gordon rushing by, but he is there, so it isn't.

Excellent adaptation to the story! When do you think that this story takes place in The Railway Series? I want to record The Railway Series someday with my brother and sister, and I want add some fan stories as well.
This looks amazing. Can't believe how much it looks like a story. Only complaint is the voice is a little quiet. Also I bet reverend is absoulty screaming ( he didn't like the episode in the show.)
Thanks, I did post about my reason for omitting the nice finale of the episode on twitter, basically I wanted to make the adaptation a bit more like the RWS and Wilbert wasn't so keen on Henry's love of trees in the episode. Still, I did consider it :)
