Nick Ho Yeah The Social Network came out before he was well known so a lot of people may not realize that was him now that he's bigger in Hollywood. I really liked him in that movie

jazinegrrrl Nah, his accent is MOS was also very obviously forced. It's like the counterpart of Renee Zelwegger doing her British accent in Bridget Jones' diary :) If you want a good model of an English doing a really good American accent, Theo James would be a good example. I really thought that he was American when I saw Divergent. Whereas Henry Cavil? Even if I didn't know that he was British I could tell that his accent was imitated and unnatural, even in MOS. But it's true that in MOS you can't tell as much, and I think one of the main reasons is because he doesn't actually have that much lines and complicated phrases as Man from UNCLE.

+AstriaICOW His Kansas accent had to be good when so many people thought Henry was actually American. As for his accent in MfU: You obviously misunderstood what they were saying. Henry was supposed to talk like Cary Grant at first but since Cary Grant's accent was obviously a mixture of American and British, they decided not to go that way because it would only make Henry look like he can't pull off a convincing American accent so they decided to americanize the accent slightly more but it was still supposed to be an American accent from the 60's (so not a contemporary one) affected by the fact that Napoleon Solo has spent a lot of time in Europe. It was also supposed to reflect the fact that Napoleon Solo admired British posh society and was trying to imitate it. So Henry actually did a great job on the accent. I've read that Henry is very talented as for languages and you can actually hear him speak German and Italian in the movie as well, and both sound very good. I think Henry himself is fluent in French and can lead a conversation in Italian and German so someone like that is usually good with accents because they have an ear for it. Some sites even mention up to 9 languages but I believe he doesn't speak all of those fluently and that he only knows some phrases in several of those.

***** Sorry I would have to disagree. Henry does have a knack for languages and he works very very hard for them but that doesn't necessarily mean that he has a good ear for accents. His Italian had an obviously heavy accent in the movie, so does most of his French. Carrie Muligan for example has a much better French accent. He does pick up foreign languages fast due to his own personal interest and hard work, but he cannot do authentic accents very well at all. In terms of his American accent even the directors have said as much that he can't do one very well. His Britshness slips through here and there if you listen carefully. Most people don't notice these things and they assume Henry is American because superman has always been played by an American. There are actors who have a much better ear for authentic accents. Merryl Streep would be an extreme example.

+AstriaICOW You have a right to disagree. I don't have a problem with that. But let me explain why I wrote what I wrote. I hope it won't come off as too boastful because it's not meant that way. It might be longer so bear with me. I'm a passionate linguist. I also love music and singing. All these hobbies helped me train my ear, and paired with my gift for languages, I've become really good at learning languages, imitating intonation, accents etc. I also teach languages so me saying "people who have a talent for languages are also good at imitating accents" is based on my personal experience, it's not something I just came up with. Of course, it would have been better if I had said "MOST people who have a talent for languages are also good at imitating accents" because it doesn't apply universally but usually, these talents go hand in hand. I speak 4 languages fluently and know a couple more conversationally. Both French and Italian are among languages I speak (the first one fluently, the latter conversationally) and I honestly didn't find anything 'heavy' in Henry's Italian in MfU. It sounded damn good to me. And I know I'm not alone since I've seen a lot of Italian people compliment Henry's Italian (accent). Just like a lot of Russians complimented Armie's Russian accent. When native speakers compliment someone's accent, I believe them because native speakers are the harshest judges. As for Henry's German: it wasn't perfect but it was still very good in MfU. However, I remember seeing scenes in The Tudors where Henry spoke French and while he pronounced names pretty flawlessly, there were a few sentences where he sounded too English. But all in all, it was still a very good French accent imo. And btw, I've never said that there aren't actors who have a better ear for accents. But in my book, Henry definitely belongs among actors who are really good at accents. So that's a lengthy explanation of my POV. (Sorry for that.) And I just can't help but wonder where you heard someone say that Henry can't do an American accent very well? I've watched a lot of interviews where Henry's accent(s) have been discussed (he had to do one in quite a lot of his projects) and I have never heard anyone say anything negative about his accents. It was always the opposite actually. ETA: Anyway, I don't have a problem with you seeing things differently and we can agree to disagree. I appreciate you being respectful when disagreeing with me.
