Totally accurate. Tom has done stunts himself and got a couple of bones broken here and there. When that happened, production had to stop until he recovered. Dude knows his shit and its limits.

Yeah, jumpers have literally cut the limbs off of their fellow skydivers, or killed them, by hitting them with too much speed.

I personally feel it's Tom's bucket list for every actor assigned to one of his projects are capable of doing their own stunts lol. Tom does this shit for a living. He doesn't expect you to come off the couch and be ready for a Halo jump lol

For you this is probably a stupid fucking question but I'm honestly curious about what the potential problem would be for a untrained skydiver. In my head its just jump and pull the cord and that doesn't sound so hard. I understand it a lot more complicated than that but please tell me why he probably would die if he jumped.

@@dannne88 for standard solo jumps (not HALO), you have to learn how to manage your gear (harness, primary and emergency parachutes etc), how to properly exit from an aircraft and then land without injury, how to steer your parachute so you don’t end up in death spirals, and how to move your body during a free fall. For tandem jumps, you don’t really need much training since you won’t be handling anything. In the case of this mission impossible stunt, it’s a HALO jump. Which like I mentioned, has many other factors to take into consideration like oxygen and temperature levels to name a few. I myself have never performed a HALO jump, but unlike regular skydiving, you will need to wear an oxygen mask to deal with the thinner atmosphere and after you breath in pure oxygen for an hour. Temperatures are also significantly lower, and you will have to wear different gear for that as well as train for the rapid change in temperature during descent. Simply put, going from floating in a wind tunnel to performing a solo HALO jump is like comparing riding a bicycle to motocross racing.

You don’t need to be a pro to know that a few hours in a wind tunnel do NOT qualify you to do a HALO jump. I like Henry but in this, Tom was right. He’s qualified to do it, Henry isn’t. Right choice.

Soo...the chance that simply he could have lost consciousness while falling and spin uncontrollably hit everyone else or require a rescue midair and put eveeyone at risk while they are falling like rocks towards the ground is not a thing now...

Have you actually done any extreme sports? One of the main things in extreme sports is to avoid putting yourself in unecessary risk and put someone else in risk as well. Even trained skydivers with hundreds of jumps get into horrible accidents even if they have had training on how to act in case of emergency. And this is no ordinary jump either. If Henry blacked out of the lack of oxygen and span uncontrollably and hit eveeyone else on that jump he could potentially kill everybody indeed. If that counts as narcissism then yeah alright. Dunno about Tom Cruise being a narcissist or not but he was 100% right on that one

In the movie, Henry was jumping as if he was going a halo jump. Either way he is stealing the thunder. Its a safety thing.

Tom got training for it and didn’t get Henry to. Tom deffo calculated this so he got bragging rights.

If you collide with someone you'd kill that other person. Plus the need to watch the untrained rookie distracts from the task. You're not allowed to do HALO jump without 200 normal jumps before, so at least you know all the basics by heart and won't do something outrageously stupid.

Does kinda sound that you never tried extreme sports or if you tried you had a terrible safety advisor. I am doing scuba diving and that is relatively mild compared to skydiving and what Henry asks here will be equivalent of me saying "oh i have rescue diving and enriched air diving experience let me join you to the 200 meter dive!" When i don't even have like 50 dive actual experience and none further from 25 or so meters I would be practically a danger to myself and a potential danger and a burden to everyone else.
