Really appreciate the mention of handicap accessible. I’ve been taking my elder parents to various parks and I research to see how manageable it is for them. Useful info, thank you!
Love your cheery face and tone of voice, the music is fun and moves the narrative along in a friendly way. Thank you!!!! I just went to this park this week and I was stunned and in awe at the size of these giant beings😲😉💫
What are the odds? My older son and I visited the park on the same day. Sorry we missed you. Our family are big fans of your channels and would liked to have thanked you in person for sharing so many interesting adventures that give us ideas for trips of our own. Henry Cowell SP is an old family favorite, being located only about a half hour from where we live. Had we run into you, we would have pointed out "Pooh Corner" and the "Castle Tree;" our names for spots on the loop trail that sparked my kids' imagination when they were little.
I love that you hike and share your "entourage" with us, Josh. I have only made it to Kings Canyon and Sequoia to see the Sequoia trees and my mind was blown away! I really need to get back to your state again someday! Thank you for sharing your adventures!
FYI there's a couple of rare albino redwood trees along this old growth trail at Henry Cowell that are worth watching.. easy to miss since they are very short
Many Hollywood films have been filmed here; transformers 'Bumblebee', Sandra Bullock 'Birdbox' to name a few. The Freemont tree used to be a Honeymoon suite, when it was Welch's big tree resort...if you go inside and see a rectangle carving on the side of the tree; that used to be a window. I love this place. Fun video yet again Josh.
Nicely done! I’m a docent in the visitor center at HCRSP, and never tire of the park’s beauty. If you’re frustrated by the traffic and crowds at Muir Woods, come visit us instead. You won’t be disappointed.
This was fun to watch since we live just a few miles away and visit here frequently. Thankfully the trees in the park were not damaged by the big fire of 2020 that destroyed over 1000 homes in the area. The railroad is lots of fun too. We ride it down to the Boardwalk in the summer. Thanks for another great video!
We are so lucky Henry Cowell survived the fires last year!! scarily close; Big Basin (the grandaddy of the Santa Cruz parks) will never be the same. So fun to view the cuties' first hike in the redwoods.
I think that you can save $3, parking at Roaring Camp is $7. Wander around the railroad town, then just cross the tracks to the State park! Good signs everywhere. You didn't show the park visitors center where they have lots of taxidermy of the local animals. And other things. Perhaps it is still closed due to the Covid fear.
So nice to see you with your kids. Makes me happy for you. And how would you say this park compares to the John Muir one a little north of San Francisco?
Josh, this park is one of our favorites. We loved riding the Roaring Camp Railroad from the park to Santa Cruz. We also did the one that went up to the top of the mountain and a loop. Thanks for sharing one of our favorite places. Glad you were able to bring the family with you.
Great video! Glad you doing more state parks, we have the CA explorer pass mainly for Crystal Cove SP, go running there all year long and summer time obviously, but wish we can utilize the pass more... these stupid pass doesn't even come with a map of where you can use it, just names in text format... So far been only using the pass at some state beaches in Socal, and once in Anza Borrego...
I know what you mean about it being hard to figure out all the parks you can use the pass at. I would love to have a video on every state park someday.
Great video although one must see this place in person to truly appreciate how pretty it is. You have a beautiful family! Just curious to know where your home base is located. Cheers :)
Great video of Henry Cowell State Park, Josh! We've been one time before a few years back. Your video brings back great memories and is a reminder that we need to visit again soon. Thanks for sharin'!
Friends lived in Brookdale, a community nearby, I've visited the park many times but parked alongside the road & hiked other trails in the park. Yes the railroad is another must visit spot and Big Basin park too which is up the road near Boulder Creek.
This park was my refuge growing up. When the summer days were too hot in San Jose, or my dad had just ‘had enough he’d pack up the family and a hibachi and we’d go to this park to walk the loop and grill burgers at the picnic ground. Now it’s a favorite spot for me and my boy.
We went there many times and even proposed there! I love walking through those trees. If you want to see the banana slugs you have to go in the early morning hours 6/7am while the ground is still moist. Last time we went we saw about 15 slugs. They are awesome.
Thanks for the video Josh! My wife and I are headed up to Scotts Valley in March and will definitely visit this park while we are there. I appreciate you giving me a little glimpse of what to expect. Appreciate you and all your work! Congrats on the beautiful family, those kids will be lucky to get to travel with you and your wife on all your fun adventures! Happy Trails!
