This is a forgotten gem. If this video were made today, people would say he was harassing these women. They don't have good songs like this anymore. Today's music BLOWS!
This song is crazy good! I love it! Henry Lee Summer's voice is so indicative of the music of the 80s which I love! Wish there was more music like this today! Maybe today's youth would finally be able to get what made our music so special!
@user-lm6lu3lz5r yeah, it's pretty good. I like the song. I like in the video, at the end, when one of the women , the hot one, was waiting for him. I think , I heard that the singer got into trouble with the police or something.
Can't believe aswell the 80s are coming up to it's 40 mark ouch time ticking to quick thanks to technology our stress and pressures to live making things happen quick also speed speed getting old suxs they say it does getting ripped off now or a certain age.The 80s didn't have that i was a kid i love to return in spirit and never leave the dimension portal World was alive the scales class level was a buzz can't be compared the pinnacle to describe the list is endless about the 80s it deserves to live on forever in my case and indeed wish
Just a damn good feel good song. Some people say cheesy and corny but hey Some songs just make you feel good and remember when life was better. Bring back the 80's
The music videos of the 80s were the absolute best! They all told a little story behind the song. Some were silly, some funny, some sad, etc. but they were all great! It's a shame that videos changed with just half naked back up dancers and the like, and then MTV gave up on music videos altogether and focused on shitty reality shows. I miss the 80s so much, and I was only a little girl back then.
We got to see Henry Lee and friends recently in Indianapolis. Brother has still got it going on. He was nice enough to talk with everybody and visit with each and every fan following the show. Good dude to support.
Sounds a lot like Fogerty. That being said I too thought he had a bright future til he appeared on Letterman. Quite spastic, Letterman telling him he need to switch to decaf. Oh well, great song.
He played in a band at my mom and dad's bar!!! We've known him nearly all our lives!!! So we went to all his concerts and bought his music - he went to the top of charts in the mid to late 80s . . .🎉I still like him and his music🎉 . . .
I met Henry Lee summer last Saturday. He did a concert in Gaston Indiana and I worked security at his show (it wasn't a big show) we got him back to the room after the show and talked about politics. Cool guy.
My former band had the pleasure of being the opening act for Henry Lee a few years ago. Absolutely the nicest guy. Very cordial and complimentary. He kept mentioning our band and thanking us during his set. Heck, we were the ones thanking him for allowing us to open for him.
A few years ago, I used to run into Henry quite a bit. He has had a rough life. Last time I had seen him he had kicked his addictions again but he was just on the teetering edge and I haven't seen him in a while. I hope he is still on the the good side of his struggle.
indufan That's too bad, addictions can be life ruining. Henry Lee had a lot of talent. If you're familiar with Tommy Bolin he was another one that addiction to booze and drugs took his life too soon. You Tube is a world of music knowledge for those that are interested.
***** Henry Lee looked really bad. I have done a little more searching since then and looks like he has some stuff out there for the last couple of years and he is actually singing and somewhat decently again. When I saw him, he was playing second guitar on Tuesday nights in downtown Indy.
Simpler times! So glad I lived and experienced the 8Os as a teen age American kid! Something about the drums/symbols in this song that just make me get overwhelmed with happiness and I even tear up! Thank you Henry Lee and band! A true American classic that will forever be one of my all time favorites!
Saw Henry Lee Summer in the 90's opening for STARSHIP.... He blew STARSHIP off the Stage... Awesome Singer and Backing Band. Hope he makes a comeback soon.
Bama Moondog... I am also a retired truck driver of close to 30 yrs...owner/operator for over 10 yrs. Pull a chemical tank for over 20 years.. Much love from Mobile Alabama.
I'd completely forgotten this song and Summer. Popped up in my recommended and I clicked on it. I'm glad I did, so I could be reminded of this cool song
I played high school basketball against Henry in western Indiana back in the day. He was good. A lot better than I was. I know he struggled with demons later in life. Hope he is healthy and happy.
drewb anthony I still love Henry Lee Summer. I have "I Wish I Had A GIRL Like That" downloaded on my phone along with @ 1500 other 80s hits. The 80s was just a great laid-back fun era of music to ever come around in my opinion. I say it all the time and I'LL say it until I die...to really understand the 80s you had experience and live in the 80s. There will NEVER be another decade or era that will ever compare to the 80s.
Was just at his concert tonight. Never saw so many senior citizens on their feet dancing as when he sang this song. At 69 he still sounds the same! Maybe even better
This song was all over MTV when I moved into my first apartment - what great times and I didn't even know it. What an upbeat song. Love the choir arrangement too. Where did the years go man ? Great to go back in time for awhile - thanks for posting
OMG, that voice. Just heard this gem on my car radio then had alexa play it when I got home, then had to watch the video.....now it's added on my playlist of favs. I hadn't heard this in forever and had forgotten how much I liked it. I love a guy singer who can legit scream/sing so awesomely!
Freshman year at college. Two Indiana Rock-n-Roll bands play back-2-back in a loading dock at sunset. Midwest girls shakin' what they got and the boys dancin' as best they can. Every hoot and holler multiplied by a thousand. One of the best nights EVER!!
None on the men too. I'm so tired of tattoos. Did you know that the ink isn't regulated? Years from now, we'll find out it causes cancer or some such nonsense.
Henry Lee Summers is so talented. Those who are critical of him, are just jealous of his accomplishments.......which they couldn't even imagne having. I praise Henry for his talents and the great accomplishments that he has achieved in his lifetime!!!!!!!!!! I so love to listen to his music. Looking forward to him coming out with a greatest hits album sometime in the near future!!
Whoah! How am I just seeing this now?! Amazing song & video. The random gospel choir popping up is the cherry on top. Genius artist, director, & creative team.

@@brick1371 lol you can’t say shit today! I remember telling this girl her husband was gorgeous. She smiled and thanked me! I wouldn’t dare say that now!
This song and video are just plain old FUN....... Music in the 80s was FUN. The packed stadiums with loud music and loud fans.... it was awesome!!!! I'm so glad I grew up in the 80's What a decade.
I agree, I was born in 1971, I LOVED the 80's. Never heard of this song till today! Now I can't stop playing it.. Lol if I don't stop playing it etc, My wife will put me in the basement! LOL she doesn't know that I have my older stereo and computer down there!
Just heard this song on iHeart Radio today, for the first time in forever and a day. Forgot what a great tune it was. An unabashedly fun song. Oh, and that mullet!
… I first saw HLS in 1986 when he was still a bar act in the Indy scene. He was doing free shows at colleges just to get noticed. He was in Ft Wayne the outside the dining hall. I sat right on the edge of the stage at one point. Even then, I saw the makings of a Star. We played this song at our wedding in ‘88.
this song just popped into my head after 30 some years. i was a big fan of this song. i remember an interview with H.L.S. when this song was a big hit. he said the were in the (ahem) entertainment part of some major city, and some said that when one of the working girls strutted by, the guy turned to watch her walk away, and said "i wish i had a girl who walked like that!" and Henry Lee thought, "now thats a song! to me, Henry Lee Summers was like a john melloncamp with more range. they were both indiana boys.
I'm 52 years old and lived and loved the 80's but I can honestly say I never heard of this guy or this song until today.. I freakn love it!!! 👍 Ever since I stumbled on this I just keep playing it over and over again!! 😎😁👍👍👍👍 God I miss the 80's!!! Was such a better time and place for everyone!!
I am 52 years old to I knew him because I lived in Indiana and that's where he was from but he didn't get the promotion you need it somebody just didn't like him like they like John cougar between the two of them I think he was a lot nicer person I love to see him in concert very energetic a wonderful entertainer used to watch him at the palace in Hicksville Ohio Good times
I remember, I'm 55 now. My dad started making money and we got the MTV. My dad had 2 children and married by 24. He was a young dad so sort of like a big brother. MTV was full of ZZ top, dire strait's, this song was one of them. I lived outside of STL so we heard all the newest on the radio. We had an apartment in northern WY, where his work was. Always the MTV blaring.
I remember seeing this video on MTV senior year in high school. I had completely forgotten about it until it happened to play on an iHeart Radio station the other day. What a great song, so glad to have been reminded of it.
Until today I've never heard of Henry Lee or that song. And was a rocker back then. I don't know if the radio stations where I lived didn't play it or what. Today when I heard it I thought it was a early John Cougar { As he was called then} song. The song is a great 80's rocking tune! Now I'll have to find some more of his songs.
STILL after all these years ( 30 ) this songs is so catchy and a fun song, great video too!! Had the cd when it came out. Wishing you all good things Mr. Henry Lee Summer, rock on!
Wow can't believe I stumbled across this video. He had 3-4 strong hits and a big following around the Indy area since he grew up not far away. He played one year for our company Christmas party and was solid. Things got dark for him a few years ago with some arrests and other issues, not sure where he's at today but hope he's doing well. He had more fans than even he knew I'm sure.
