Empathy is only one aspect. People listen really well when you touch their MONEY. Forget fining clubs hit up the major sponsors. When enough consumers of Heineken, Mastercard and Pepsi start pouring pressure on them by not consuming their products and services unless something is done about this, then that pressure will shift to UEFA. UEFA WILL ANSWER THE PHONE when one or more of those big sponsors call them because they themselves are feeling the pinch. Spread the pain around. If the VICTIMS are uncomfortable, then EVERYONE needs to be uncomfortable until this changes.

The racial abuse is coming from a minority of the fans, so I personally think its down to the surrounding fans to put a stop to it. Theres no point in points deductions because that wont stop those individual fans coming back and doing the same. Banning fans then isnt fair on other fans and also on the players/club not playing in the right atmosphere. If an official is racist, theres microphones to capture that and it can be dealt with. If other players are racist then you can impose individual fines and bans. But as most of these racist incidents come from select fans to the players you either: 1) When purchasing a ticket you have to do it with some form of ID, then when you enter the stadium the ticket is scanned and it identifies you on their system. Then on the system on a digital blueprint/model of the seats it can recognise where your seat is. Then when an incident happens with the fans there are cameras able to identify the individual and it digitally identifies them. Then it can be reported, fined and banned from entering the stadium again. (would be effective but not a fan of this as its very dystopian/controlling). 2) Its down to the fan community to teach others how to behave and change the culture in football "hooliganism" and if someone is racist in the fans they dont stand for it and call them out.
@DC42087
@DC42087 Год назад
Sad thing is racism will never end. Same way sexism and every other form of discrimination. There will always be dickheads. What we have to do is be better and indentifying these people, punishing them so severly that it deters others. There name and face all over social media and informing their work place is a good start. Im sure people will think twice if it meant they would be held accountable more for their actions.

The problem will never stop until Uefa and Fifa take it seriously, which they do not. The punishments need to be severe. Deduction in points. No fans for the next 10 games. And most importantly, when a player is being racially abused, he and his whole team mates should walk off the pitch, into the shower and on the bus and go. Then the useless authorities would take it serriously. On another note, racism is everywhere and sadly always will be. I am Asian and was called a Paki every day at school by black kids. It's a worldwide problem.

The problem with this discussion is the victim mentality they portray. This whole “I’m black and wont get a job because of my skin color” doesn’t do them any favors. I'm going to be honest and assume it is for this reason: football fans aren't very rational. No one needs to use their heads too much to enjoy a football game, unless you are passionately trying to be a coach or genuinely trying to become a better player. Most people just watch it for the skills, the fights, the drama, the saves, the stats, the talent, etc... all which requires very little intelligence to appreciate. It is very easy to hate a player for doing an error, and, since we aren't too rational when we are watching a game, we can get ahead of ourselves and start associating color of skin with hate, since, color of skin is the quickest way of differentiating someone when we're not rational. There's a reason why it's easier to watch a football game than to do homework. It's funny because it was only until race was brought up that I noticed 3/4 of the CBS panel is of dark skin. These guys are so amazing at what they do that they made me forget about their race. I wonder how we can implement *that* type of mentality into watching football, or anything anywhere, for that matter. Because Thierry is right, you cant force that mentality into someone by showing them flags or banners of "solidarity" or "representation." It has to come from deep contemplation from the audience.

So you take points off a team and then find out that the person being racist is actually a fan of the opposite team who wore the opposing side shirt just to get them points deducted. Clever 👏 I don’t think there is a way to fix it because it can be done by any single person in the world. Banning the perpetrators for life and having the club and league come out in support of the players would be great though.

I respect Titi but I do think there's too much doom in his tong and starting point (I'm black as well if what I'm about to say makes a difference) I think Titi is speaking from a generation of trauma, and his trauma back age is probably more than mine but I feel like the racism is society is much more better than Titis playing days and youthful days. I think it's more highlighted and sometimes overblown too but it's still here but it's not at the degree at which it was in the past and for titi to say that "nothing has changed" is a bit ignorant to see that the awareness of racial and discriminate abuse has greatly increased. Perhaps the means in which it is tackled has stagnated a bit but as a society in Europe and US we are further ahead than what we were 30 years ago. Also with the lack of managers of colour part, it is a bit unfair (and lazy) to just say oh look there's no people of colour in managerial roles. We have to do a thorough investigation and see how many actually qualified people of colour actually applied for managerial roles and how many got the role or lost the role to someone 'under qualified' and let's not forget black people only make up around 20% of the population in Europe lol and out of the 20% how many go on to become footballers and then Want* to be qualified coaches and managers. It will probably be a small number of black managers anyway if you do the math. If black managers aren't applying because they're not interested (we could ask ourselves why? But it's not really a problem) if they are qualified for the role and applying but losing out to under qualified managers then it's a problem. So what I'm trying to say is do some more research into the numbers before throwing lazy emotional accusations.
@nats2976
@nats2976 Год назад
Disagree with your point, there are disproportionately more black players in football teams than in society in general. That is the number you should be looking at to work out the proportion of managers there should be. When you are watching the game, look at the sidelines, how many black coaches do you see? Now compare that to to how many black players. Sure it's gone up by a couple of percent since Titi played but not is double figures. In the world cup just gone we had the first black national team manager. For something like this the eye test works. What do you see?. Oh as for unqualified people to my knowledge Frank Lampard doesn't have is pro license but I still see this guy getting opportunities. Titi has his....
@Fernando-gt5jt
@Fernando-gt5jt Год назад
@@nats2976 but the fact is, we still don't know how many black players actually want to become managers when their careers are done. We also don't know how many qualified black managers applied for the roles that Lampard applied for. I'm not saying racism, discrimination or favouritism doesn't exist. However, we have to be able to answer these questions before branding the system as racist, its just too lazy in my opinion. There could be many innocent factors as to why many black players don't want to or aren't becoming managers and there could be many injustice factors as well but more research and data is needed on the subject.

its even harsher and more open, cause as Henry mentioned, there is no representation, there is none in the ranks higher than us, to empathize with us, we are taught to live with it and try to forget. People forget we are humans too, like Henry says; Lukaku and Vini are superstars, the whole world watches and sees it. They HAVE to take actions, just to please a "status quo", there is no pressure from outside in the lower levels. Thats why Henry said he would like to know what others think, cause if u feel like the only one who wants to fight and your teammates arent on the same page. Youll feel outcasted. Its the ability to recognize and empathize, actually step up for someone, put your heart on the line and in the eye of the storm and show the people its not right. Anyone can post a picture or wear a shirt, it means nothing. Ive been there, the way they adress black people in dressings rooms, even your own teammates, it shows you how they actually think about people that look like you. You also know, one day youre the greatest, the next time u could be in the garbage, thats how much faster it goes. Hence why i quit football, u feel undermined/undervalued and underrespected, even when it comes to your wages compared to others. Let me remind you, not so long ago "black" keepers werent even a thing, now we have Onana and a couple years back Mendy. Its the boxes, way of seeing us and thinking about us that def still exist U almost had/have to play a role, in order to get in, to belong. And honestly life is a competition, as long as "white" people are eating and upgrading, they wont care, they still you as competition, but thats one "less" race for them to worry about, thats how they see it. Racism is a societal and systematic problem, football is a huge part of many cultures aswel, almost a mirror. From young to old, poor to rich. Ask any black player, theyve all experienced it starting from a very young age. And if everyone is still too busy with their own comfort, failing to empathize because of this, it will always be a huge problem. Saka and Rashford being racially abused after their penalty misses and all u read is "they have gotten back to form, they fought back".... What is this stupid statement? There is no fight back, you shouldnt be abusing someone in the first place. So are we now gonna use this as motivation to upgrade and sush haters? No, it says alot about the way communities/countries think about certain groups of people. Specially in the lower ranks...

Vini leaving la liga & citing racism as the racism would cause a shockwave and MAYBE spark a real change (in football stadiums, the culture of Spain will still be as it is). Unfortunately I don't think he'd have the balls to do it. He seems comfortable at Madrid

@@majormononoke8958 low IQ response. YES there's racism everywhere, but it's apparent that it's the worst in Italy & Spain out of all the top 5 leagues. Leaving Madrid is not throwing his life away, stop being dramatic. He'd see a lot of success if he went to City for example

Simply put, most players & managers are cowards. Ancelotti should've 100% pulled his team off after the Vini incident. Don't ask Vini what he wants to do, he'll obviously not want to be the reason for the game ending. Make the decision as a manager or captain!!!!

Henry is making so many excellent points. However, I must entirely fair here. Thierry Henry got jobs in management, he was given a golden opportunity to do well in management, he completely and utterly failed at Monaco, he fell out with his squad within the first week. He went to Montreal to manage, if he was not Thierry Henry, he certainly would not have lasted 3 years. He can complain about it now and insinuate racism prevents him from finding employment, but a 20% win rate says it all. He has also made it very clear from his employment history, he has a desire to manage in the French language, this limits his clubs even further.

The management point was not conveying that he can't get opportunities. It's that the average black person will not get a fair opportunity because of racism. It might not be on purpose, but most people have unconscious biases.

It's a broader societal and hierarchical issue, football is just the tip of the iceberg. In a way, it's positive that these ambassadors of the game are even discussing it, because they have huge potential reach that the average person simply does not.

What a waste of time. Thierry was just talking with nothing tangible in pursuit. He got questions from the others and answered nothing. If the leagues are serious about it, games will be forfeited, and clubs have their transfer windows closed. If they are repeat offenders, the clubs would be sent down to lower divisions. Thierry just talked frustration with no real plan, and he wanted empathy. Assume that your teammates and opponents are racists too. You save the disappointment when someone shows that they don't have your back.
@SynchroM3h
@SynchroM3h Год назад
The reason being is that he alone cannot rid racism. He is indirectly saying that the authorities need to be accountable (those with executive powers) to reduce the amount of racist incidents that occur at the games. The leaders / directors at the leagues, clubs and FA's. As a pundit, he could say get rid of the current executives. But the counter argument would be that they are not deemed incompetent overall and not solely responsible of individuals. It is a double edge sword.

@Synchro Mech you are very generous and trying to make sense of a useless word salad. If he's afraid for his job and his future opportunities, then he is a coward who shouldn't be listened to anyway. Again, I offered consequences, not laments that people are bad. For example, Bait Jerusalem needs to be banned for continuing racist objec

I'm sorry but even as a black man I disagree with this, if you are good enough you'll be given a chance to be a manager, there's so many black coaches, assistant coaches and members of staff in the big teams in fact I'd even say that I don't see many Asians but besides that in this case I don't think it's about race

In terms of black coaches getting jobs. I think Vincent Kompany could change the game on that. His Burnley team look really impressive, using modern approaches to coaching, data etc… if we are to see any coach progress in this modern era of football they need to be thinking ahead of the game not with it or behind it. I really hope we have a more diverse pool of coaches for the sake of younger generations coming through. In terms of racist fans you need several things. Strong penalties on clubs (not half hearted £10000 fines), bans on racist fans, prison sentences for racist fans (this will require lawmakers and executioners to be strong against racism which hard when many of the lawmakers are racist themselves). Footballing governing bodies need to take the lead with this. Teams with racist fans should be banned from competitions, points dropped, fans excluded etc… this should apply to national teams where a club from a country who’s fans are clearly being racist should be banned, docked points or fans banned from games. Go strong or go home Fifa, UEFA
