Can you imagine being able to go back in time and experience Europe in the 1920's and 1930's? Or visit New York around 1957-1964. Go see Miles Davis perform with one of his great quintets. Dress like a real, civilized human being. Converse with people of intellect and understanding. What great art and music was around back then!

At 6:00 MIller begins talking about men and women socializing together. What he says reminds me of something Kenneth Clark said; he said that he found that the level of civility in a room or at a gathering goes down when the men and women separate from each other and only communicate among themselves. I think this is true. In a civilized society like Europe in general or France in specific, the men and women feel relaxed in each other's company, free to talk with respect for the other.

Henry Miller and other creative people like him -should waste their time trying to explain themselves to people -most people are too dim -witted (I don't care how intelligent they are) to appreciate his experiences, insights and observations.

Fine point. Also I feel that anyone's opinion of what a piece of Art means should be as valid and 'correct' as what the person who created the piece of Art thinks. I'm not saying that that's what you believe. In fact I don't know why I wrote that. I need a drink.

I am never more happy than when i am sitting in a restaurant with a menu in front of my face. waiting for something marvelous to arrive. if you try and eat outdoors in America it won't be long before the landowner or the cops come along to chase you off. This is a barbaric country and will remain so as long as the Big Mac is our national food.

I was in bed with a Russian man, I said, " say something in American for me when you finished" quite incorrectly as he always moaned in his language. " Dunkin Donuts, McDonald's"

You may be labeling "opinion" and "personal observation" as "ignorance." Just a thought. Cheers.

He seemed very opinionated but without having all the facts. The definition of ignorance.

You fail to make an argument. He "seems" to be this or that. You come off sounding biased in that fashion. I've lived in America my entire life and his observations about women are spot on, then again he has been with a few.

Henry is one of my favorite American writers but I don't disagree. Different time in my opinion. Imagine henry today escaping america to France for liberation. He'd probably be arrested for hate speech.
