I disagree with your statement. He was, in fact, a God among gods. As was said, "Who would win in a wrestling match: Lemmy or God?" It's a trick question....Lemmy IS God.
Honestly? As a 50-year-old man, the only time in my life I have -ever- genuinely cried at hearing of a rocker's demise was when Lemmy died. BUT. There was also happiness, knowing that this was a man who had never - EVER - sold out or diluted himself for public consumption in any way. And there is something utterly, timelessly glorious about that. 10% be sad he's gone, 90% celebrate the fuck out of the fact that he was here.
Henry the guy who showed me that a punk could have long hair and Lemmy the guy who played so loud I had to hide behind the audiences bodies with ear plugs in to stand it. From Hendrix's Roadie through acid Space Rock to Punk Metal. I love both these guys. Lemmy WAS Rock. What a character, unique and pure!
One of the best testimonials about Lemmy I have ever heard. Here's Henry Rollins...intelligent, vegetarian, no drugs, negative body fat and he's good friends with Lemmy and respectful of the man who drank a bottle of Jack Daniels each day for 30 years, speed, etc.. A different lifestyle, but HR recognized his honesty and Lemmy recognized HR's honesty.
Lemmy was an unbelievable human being Met him first in Stockport Always tried to keep in touch over the years He gave me the first batch of Motorhead cassettes when our other friend Larry Wallis was at a birthday party in Wimbeldon. How did we all end up together in 1974 ioo milles from home no idea just how life turned out .Everyones story seems the same LEMMY was Lemmy & we all loved him & he remembered all of us photographic memory. Last saw him Pompano Beach in Florida & it was Tony what are you doing here Hadn;t seen him in 5 years!
Just goes to show what an amazing person Lemmy was, full of humility and love, mixed with the mind of a mischievous prankster genius. Henry is pretty damn cool too! 🤘♠️❤️
Richard Motroni Saw Henry in 2009 & he had us laughing for 3 hours straight. Haven’t ever laughed harder. Met him after the show too - just a class act.
I saw Henry on this tour, too. He is remarkably consistent in his performances. This clip looks just like when I saw him--same anecdotes, same commentary, same delivery.
I went to one of Lemmy's last shows and got to meet him and what Henry is saying is 1000% true!. He was very sincere and probably the nicest musician I've ever met and I will never forget that for the rest of my life. RIP Lemmy 🙏, you are the man, the myth and THE LEGEND!.
One national treasure talking about another national treasure... Cool as hell, but god damn, I wish it hadn't had to happen. Can you imagine if those two had narrated a history program?
Rollins: and here we have early man, depicted like thi- Lemmy: hey henry! Rollins: what Lemmy? Lemmy: that bastard looks just like you! *laughs the way only Lemmy can*
motorhead opened my first ever concert. they were the opening act for alice cooper on his raise your fist and yell tour. ive got one of his bass picks from it. has a HUGE piece broken out of it.
HENRY COULD TALK ABOUT WATCHING PAINT DRY AND MAKE IT INTERESTING TO THE POINT OF MAKING YOU LEAN FORWARD AS TO MAKE SURE THAT YOURE SOAKING IN EVERY WORD THAT IS SPOKEN!! AND ACTUALLY I WAS AT HIS SHOW LAST NIGHT.. AND YES I LEANED FORWARD FOR 3HRS AND SOAKED IN EVERY WORD HE SPOKE!! WE KNEW LEMMY AS THE BRAINS, THE BASS BEATING, RIFF ROARING, RIP SNORTING, WHISKEY DRINKIN', GOD FATHER OF THRASH.. THAT BLESSED US WITH.. MOTÖRHEAD♠️!!! I CANT IMAGINE WHAT IT WOULDVE BEEN LIKE TO HAVE HAD LEMMY AS A FRIEND?! ITS COOL TO HEAR HENRY REVEAL SOME OF THE MOMENTS HE SHARED WITH HIM.. YOU DIDNT HAVE TO KNOW LEMMY TO MISS HIM.. I SURELY DO.. AS WELL I KNOW THAT MANY MANY OTHERS MISS HIM.. LEMMY'S THE KIND OF GUY THATLL LIVE FOREVER, IN OUR HEARTS, MINDS.. AND EARS TOO! THANKS FOR SHARING THAT HENRY.. AND R.I.P LEMMY♠️
I still miss Lemmy, but vids like this one help me remember his life & enjoy it, rather than get mopey & sad, and we all know King Lem'd rather we laugh & enjoy his life than cry & whine about it, so here's to raising a glass to the King!?
Not Only Was Lemmy One of A Kind Never Will There Be Another Gent Who Did Things Like Him No Ego No Hey I Am Important Just A Down To Earth Real Musician Who Cared About His Craft And His Fans .
Ive been a fan of Henry since the album weight. Iv seen him live with his spoken word and hundreds of hours on you tube clips, I've heard him talk about every subject under the sun but hearing him talk about Lemmy is my favorite.
I miss Lemmy! We all miss him ! I just turned 52 this August I’ve been listening to Motörhead scene I was 13 “ No sleep till hammer smith “ the first album I ever heard and was I hooked R I P The word will never be the same!
a true icon,i remember the foo fighters going back stage before a gig, they were invited or went into lemmy's dressing room, whereupon lemmy says, lets have a drink, and proceeded to hand each band member a bottle of jd,fukkin epic or what.
My first live Metal concert was Motorhead at the Maritime Hall in San Francisco with members of MetallicA on Lemmy's birthday. Never will forget that. Neither did my eardrums for about 3 days 🤘🤕
Between Henry's description, and Dave Grohl's "stacks of pornos, and magazines, like an episode of hoarders!" I wish I could have seen Lemmy's apartment!
@@GRAFFDEMON Not a hoarder, it was like he bought stuff from everywhere he went, and was fascinated with WW2. Ozzy ended up giving things to Lemmy, because Sharon did not want any Nazi stuff in her houses. Can't say I blame her, although Damascus steel is really cool. He wasn't a dirty person, no matter what Motorhead would do to your lawn.
Lem was a great. Gave me his business card in 1989. i was 19 and nobody he didn't have to. it's framed. we met a few times after that. always a gentleman. class.
To have had the chance to hang out with Lemmy and for him to call you a friend, what a moment. Legendary stuff, Henry Rollins is a no bullshit kinda bloke and has a great sense of humour too. But don't piss him off. Lol
Crazy how we all miss Lemmy :( I was lucky enough to meet him in 89 or 90 at a bar after the show and he bought us all a round of shots. I didn't and don't drink but that might I had a shot with Lemmy at 19 years old \m/
One of the stories Lemmy himself used to tell was about when he saw the Beatles at the Cavern Club which was, so far from their cute image in the early '60s, they were actually pretty badass. He recalled that one guy in the crowd was heckling them and John Lennon stopped playing, came down into the crowd and head butted the offending person who then had a broken nose, was spitting out teeth and bled all over his face and front. The guy shut up and John returned back up to the stage. That impressed the hell out of Lemmy......
@Martin Jensen it was originally the "Glasgow Kiss" but there are very strong ties between Liverpool and Glasgow (hence the "Rangers" "Celtic" call and response chants at the beginning of Liverpool games in the 70s and 80s to signify the Protestant and Catholic halves of Liverpool, respectively) so it doesn't surprise me that the term got borrowed, one way or the other. P.S. my family tree is from that strain and I have Northern Irish (many of whom trace their ancestry to Scotland) and Scottish relatives on both sides of the 'divide.' I beat myself up over it, occasionally...;-).
there are seldom few people on this planet who could say to Lemmy "WHAT? i can barely hear you, you're so quiet!" and he would laugh. Henry would be one of those people.
I wish I could speak with Henry to say !! ... gather together !! Alan Davey , Mikkey Dee , Phil Campbell , Henry Rollins - a reconstructed Motörheaded Band of Kings ... shortly after Lemmy passed the immediate thought was Henry & Alan would be awesome to carry on with Phil & Mikkey . They're just too f'ing fantastic to fade away ... rock n roll fantasy Why Not !?!?
Lemmy and his sword. This wouldn't be the first legendary story about Lemmy's sword or dagger... A little known fact... The first time Keith Emerson stuck a dagger into his organ/synth (something that was a well-known part of his stage performance) was not with ELP but when he played in the band called the Nice. Keith had this idea that he wanted to stick a blade into his organ to hold down a note and just for the effect of using a knife onstage. Lemmy, who was a roadie at the time and was already a collector of Nazi paraphernalia and things of that sort, had a dagger with (I believe) the German cross on it and Keith wanted to use it. So Lemmy let him borrow it and that became a staple in Keith's act. This was also the inspiration for the surprisingly violent early Genesis song "the Knife."
If you've never seen Henry Rollins live, you need to. I listened to him speak for over 2 and a half hours doing his slideshow. It was absolutely wonderful and he took no breaks.
What Lemmy said about life before rock and roll and discovering Elvis is exactly what Billy Connolly has said. In Billy's words, before rock and roll "the world was beige and the music was CRAP!" But once they heard 'Heartbreak Hotel' it was like "WHAT THE FUCK IS THAT???" And the world instantly became a far better place.
