I want to say that the time team, went there and did some Excavating with the Queen's permission. I think they found some footings of guard towers of the palace
It irks me that such an expensive palace (in more ways than one) was pulled down. Not only did it cost money, all those inhabitants of Cuddington had to relocate for this incredible palace to be built. Lots of Henry's palaces were demolished, including the site of his birth in Greenwich, where the Royal Naval College now stands. Of all these, Nonsuch drives me crazy with irritation for the pure waste of time and money, and my own curiosity to see what it looked like. Of course I have seen the drawings. You would have thought of all Henry's palaces it would have been the one to survive!
This would have been a beautiful palace and very opulent. Over 700 stucco figures on the outside and inner court. The palace was actually only about the size of a football field though.
In an almost throw away line you mention, the destruction of a village and church to build the palace. Just imagine the misery caused by that action. I am sure there was no compensation or resettlemtnt involved. Henry Vlll was the Hitler of the Tudor period. I used to live very close to Nonsuch.
Its a bit irritating that such an amazing place....according to wiki.....has only one depiction of the inside of the place, and its a freaking medieval carving with not very much to show. And the pictures from the outside dont show as much as they should either. How did such a grand place have so little artistic work done about it?
